    River view front the river

This hike is amazing! If you're looking to cool down and enjoy a short walk, this is the perfect choice. The open camping area is spacious with ample parking. The area is super clean (let's all help keep it that way), and the people are very friendly--everyone greeted us with a cheerful "good morning." Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Keep in mind there's a pass for $10 or a season pass for $30, which grants access to multiple trails. Make sure to do your research to get the most out of your visit.

Trails are clean and allow social distancing!

Win for our family, what a great adventure! From the get-go, the entrance is clean and inviting. The trees, boulders, and river are a massive greet. A smile to re-charge and prepare for the week. If you have a discover pass, bring it. There are pay stations available to purchase a day pass. During our hike, we finished at a 2.5 Mile loop. The adventures started with different inlets to the river. Then a journey across a floating bridge. Skipping rocks, finding lady bugs, and seeing different insects really sparked everyone's interest. There were numerous trails off the main path; and watching the adventures build pleasure and curiosity was worth the chance. We will seek more adventures into fall and spring! We will see you soon Bowl & Pitcher!

You'll find some really nice hikes when you visit Riverside State Park, but the price you'll pay is enduring some fairly large crowds of people. Tip: Dogs are allowed here, but they should always be on leash Be sure to bring bags to pick up Fido's "presents" when he/she bestows them ;-)  If you're a really good citizen, you can even collect "presents" that are given by other people's dogs ;-)

Riverside State Park is a large state park that runs along the Spokane River west of Spokane. It maintains the natural beauty of the area while provide beautiful public land in a part of the state that is lacking in public land when compared to the western side of the state or most other parts of the western US. The grass lining the river is dry by July, screaming for water and knowing that a random spark would whoosh away the area in a mass of flames. Fortunately, we did not encounter any fire during out time in Spokane, but a local told us that many August days are so full of smoke from nearby fires that you have to stay inside. Coming from the western part of the state we were acutely aware that we were in a different climate. The part of the river that we explored had what appeared to be massive boulders on either side. They were too big for a river to push them down. It was almost as if they came from a different world, where water and boulders were simply bigger, with giants walking the earth and forces of nature capable of much more destruction. More realistically speaking, the boulders were probably pushed into position by glaciers, although it still seemed odd to see so many of the boulders standing upright.

Wow, what a stunningly beautiful area. Walking over the bridge almost feels like walking the plank, though. This is a state park, so a Discover Pass is required to park your car unless it is one of their "free pass days." Once you've walked across the bridge, there are an abundance of trails to explore, too. This area is a must-see on a visit to the Spokane area. Warning: ticks come out in the spring; so even if you are staying on the paths, do a tick check.

Stunning. This area is a true marvel situated so close to the city. Of course there are wild areas with as much natural beauty, and more secluded, but rarely will you find something with this much of each so dang close; a ten minute drive from the edge of Spokane proper. I suggest walking across the swinging bridge and veering right. From here, you can walk along 1/4 to 1/2 a mile and cut down to the water via one of a few side-trails. Continuing on a full 1/2 mile and going up a small hill, you'll hit a bathroom and the Centennial Trail, with magnificent views of the river below. It's a pretty popular area and tends to get crowded during peak times and seasons. It's also pretty heavily used by runners and dog lovers so the state of the trail can be less than ideal at times. On my last visit I found a discarded energy gel packet and more than a few dog poops. Pack it in, pack it out people! The road in here takes you right past the wastewater treatment facility. It's kind of a weird thing, but it's a great opportunity to talk with your kids about the sewer system, water and waste management. Seriously. Kids love talking about poop and pee. For example, did you know that 6,500 tons of "processed solids" from this facility are spread on Washington grain fields each year? The more you know!

Really nice state park just outside of Spokane. The trails are well maintained some stunning views and really relaxing. You quickly forget that you are just outside of Spokane

Beautiful area with multiple hiking trails to venture out on. The trails are easy and go for miles. Pack a lunch and take a hike, lots of places along the river to stop for a picnic. Great area for a family outing. This is a really popular spot so go early Or on a drizzly day if you want to avoid the crowds.

From being in middle school on the last day of school - to high school hikes with the best of them - to now taking my 4 year old in his ugly blue Crocs to this part of Spokane. It's such a fun place to thrive outside being right next to the city. The way you can hear the river and know the road is right over there is awesome. Also frisbee golf. That's. All.

Just one of the many beautiful views here

$10 to access for the day. If you choose to camp you don't have to pay for a day pass. This place is amazing. Suspension bridge, awesome trails overlooking spokane river. I enjoyed it very much with my dog - spent many of my hours here on the small beach near the river.

There was a cool breeze through the canopies on a very warm day and garbage cans to dispose of our leftovers. When we stumbled upon the gorgeous flower gardens, I could not believe it. There were multiple gardeners working outside of the conservatory and although it was closed, I can't imagine that there was anything more beautiful inside than what we saw outside. We were able to sit over at the benches and rally enjoy the fountain and manicured flowers. There was a large, veryrude family that did come through who wanted to scream at their kids and then try to take photographs in front of the flowers like a happy family. Then allow their smaller children to stomp through the flowers and scream loudly while they stared at their phones. And there were of course at least two young ladies posing for "the gram" that picked flowers and made obnoxious gestures in ridiculously skimpy clothes... I guess those types of things can't be helped these days and they are no reflection on the garden itself, just be prepared for your peace to be interrupted. We also made a quick stop at the Rose garden which I did not find to be quite as beautiful but smelled lovely... There were just too many bugs and it was there were just too many bugs and it was far too warm to spend much time there. If I lived closer to this park, I would come everyday to listen to the sound of the fountain and appreciate the beauty of the topiaries and flowers and I would recommend a stop here for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.

If you find yourself on campus and looking for a more kid friendly area (aka slides and splash pads) I would recommend a walk on down to the park! It has a large bank of tennis courts (with evening play available due to the lights!). It also has a pool! Many times when I've been here there is some kind of swimming competition occurring in the pool. Last time I stopped by they had some new fitness play equipment for adults. I have an interest in unique playground equipment so I thought this was pretty cool considering the retirement facility located right on the edge of the park. You can grab picnic supplies at the nearby Safeway or takeout from the nearby Thai restaurant and enjoy the beautiful summer weather in Spokane. I frequently see people picnicking here. One really important part of Mission Park that I must mention is the memorial to Otto Zehm. He was a mentally-ill man killed by the Spokane police in 2006. The simple memorial was placed in 2012 as part of a settlement with the city of Spokane. As a community it is important to remember the legacy of Otto Zehm and I think a visit to this memorial is an important visit for any local or tourist.
