Highly love the Rivertown Threater in Kenner. The staff was excellent during a wonderful play that Becky Allen had written in the past when all of a sudden one of the viewers had what was thought to be a seizure. The actors stopped immediately. Staff came in and helped people in the audience went outside to direct the ambulance and police. While another young lady ran to a local fire station within the block. Love this community and the place here are definitely worth it for a local flair of theater with a Broadway flair. read more

The small theater that could! This space (really 2 small theaters across a courtyard from each other) is a lovely space to catch local theater. They have a decent selection of shows that highlight local talent. In December I saw a local interpretation of It's a Wonder Life, entitled It's a Wonderful Life, Y'all and resets the action to New Orleans with many local nods and jokes. The production creativity was great. The whole show was put on by 5 actors which was amazing. And the sets and props were standouts. The main theater holds over 300 seats and the Lagniappe theater is smaller. The night I was there, the theater was packed but still comfortable and the theater is fully accessible for those using wheelchairs. There was also a concession stand selling snacks and mulled wine. Definitely a fun spot to spend an evening. read more

I went here to see a Ricky Graham production "Broadway-New Orleans Style". The play itself was great. Their productions are always campy, fun, well run etc etc highly recommend. The Theater on the other hand leaves something to be desired. The bathroom situation is horrible. One small bathroom, the one stall doesn't lock, and one urinal. This was not enough for the amount of people. The seats are jammed together with uncomfortable folding chairs. First come seating and I'd say about 20% of the seats were pre-reserved for guests of Ricky Graham so get there early and claim your seats and then expect to be smooshed like sardines (if you don't know the person sitting next to you, you soon will as they overlap into your seat). And then the aisle way is filled with hightop bar chairs making it difficult to even get i and out. I'd be curious to know what the capacity for this place is supposed to be vs actual. Seemed liked a fire jazzed and people could barely get to the seats. It's a basic room, lighting and sound was fine. The other thing that's disappointing is the restaurant situation. I enjoy marking an evening out of theatre eating a meal and having some drinks before the show. But nothing around here. While the production was a hit I wouldn't bother to make the trip out of the city to see another play there. read more

I am a sucker for a good targeted ad, so when I saw one for a local theater production of Matilda the Musical at the Kenner Rivertown Theater, I knew I had to come and bought a ticket for a Sunday matinee. No regrets. Well the regret is not knowing about this before. Small theater, local actors in the play, clean everything! No dedicated parking lot, but it is too easy to find parking on the side streets. Ushers are very friendly and helpful. I am so very glad I came and look forward to coming to future shows. read more

One of the biggest rip offs I've come across in this town! Charging that amount of money for a community theatre production that doesn't even have live music IS BEYOND ME!!!!! Not to mention the co-owner Gary is one of the worst people i've ever encountered in my entire life. What a narcissist. Don't waste your money over at Rivertown, I'd much rather give my money to theatre's that are actually worth it like Le Petit or JPAS. read more

I went here to see the play, Secondary Cause of Death. The play was excellent! The theatre is large and the seats are comfy. Plus, the acoustics are great. At intermission, you can buy drinks (water, soda and cocktails). The staff was friendly and the restrooms were clean (though they could use a few more stalls). They have a pre-show buffet, but I'll have to check that out next go-around. Parking is in the neighborhood areas and is relatively easy. read more

My friends with whom I was visiting are season ticket holders of Rivertown Theaters and they suggested getting another ticket for me to join them to see the musical "Million Dollar Quartet" about Sun Records Founder Sam Phillips having at one point in time Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. The community theater holds a few hundred people and the acoustics are excellent plus all seats have clear sightlines to the stage. The performers portraying the musicians were wonderful, all singing and playing instruments in character. It was a stellar production that compared favorably to musical theater I've seen in NYC, Chicago, London, and Los Angeles. Dinner at nearby Gandusa's Italian Market before the theater makes for a great day. read more

The whole cast for A Chorus Line were simply amazing!! What a play I saw this past weekend.....incredible singing, great acting, and wonderful dancing! I would recommend all to see this if you can. Tickets were $30 and it is worth every penny and more! The theatre is wonderful too. This place needs more exposure so others can experience this treasure in Kenner. read more

I had the pleasure of seeing Peter Pan at the Rivertown Theater and had a great time. The play had some really standout performances and the actors (even the young kids) were awesome! They really put on a professional and quality show. The sets and costumes were all very detailed and looked great. It's a small theater so they are no bad seats. We bought our tickets late so we got seats in the very last row and it wasn't bad at all! The seats are elevated so you don't have to worry about someone tall sitting in front of you. However, the ticket prices ($38) are the same whether you buy the first row or the last row so plan ahead and buy tickets early if you have a seat preference. They were selling minimal concessions of soft drinks and adult bevs. They also had a drink called Tinkerbelle Tea that was basically a Shirley temple. I thought it was a cute idea how they tied it into the theme and was a cute option for kids. Drinks had to be consumed in the lobby and were not allowed in theaters unless it was bottled water. The only thing this theater didn't have that sets it apart from other big productions was they did not have an orchestra pit so all music was piped through the speakers. Not a big deal though, you still get a great show for a good price. read more

Here's a fun fact about me, that I'm not proud of, but I'm going to admit: I don't see nearly enough plays. Well, considering I live in a city that is always putting on fantastic productions, I really should find myself in a theatre more often. With that said, it should be a surprise to no one that I had never had the opportunity to see a show at the Rivertown Repertory Theatre. Located in the deep recesses of Kenner, the Rivertown Repertory Theatre is a fantastic theatre that features regular productions. Last night, a friend brought me along to see a production of "A Chorus Line". It had been years since I had seen a musical (I think that last one I saw was at the Saenger, pre Katrina), so this is territory that I hadn't covered in quite a few years. Besides, the greatness of the place, the thing that I was most impressed by was the sound quality of the place. The theatre is huge, and although we were sitting way in the back, the cast was mic'd to perfection, so that everything was crystal clear and there was zero feedback. The performance itself was excellent, and it makes you proud to know that there is such musical acting talent, right here in our own backyard. The next performance at Rivertown is going to be Chicago, and since it's one of my faves, I definitely plan on checking it out and even bringing a few friends. read more

A fun intimate theater. There are actually two theaters there. The wife and I enjoyed a fun evening of tap and live jazz. Parking is good. It is easy to get in an out. There is also a nice Italian Restaurant close by. read more

Saw snowhite with the entire family and it was super fun and relaxing - laid back atmosphere and not too pricy (8 bucks) though that adds up when you have 4 kids. read more
