ROAD RUNNER EXPRESS
- Minimum Height: 36"
- Brave swift curves and plunging hills on this family-friendly coaster suitable for daredevils-in-training.
- "Junior Thrills Equal Major Smiles."
Prior to this visit, I've never once gotten on a "kid ride" before. For some odd reason, I had the notion that most, if not all, the rides in the Bugs Bunny themed land were for kids and kids only.
Well, not true, obvi!
While there ARE some attractions that have height limits, meaning that if you're TOO TALL, you cannot board (and enjoy) it, Road Runner Express is definitely not one of them. In fact, this is arguably the best family ride available in this section of Magic Mountain.
Firstly, you should notice that this ride is probably the most elaborately constructed and the most ornate out of all the children coasters. In addition, it occupies the most area (square footage) out of all the other available options.
Again, when compared to the rest, it's the most decked out with its Looney Tunes IP decorations. Similar to the popular animation, RRE features Wild E Coyote trying to capture/murder the oblivious Road Runner in this pretend desert. The overall look and vibe stay very true to its cartoon inspiration, and the coaster track itself works seamlessly to create one of the better themed roller coasters featured in the *entire* park, if I dare to say so.
No, no, I am not saying that it's better than Tatsu, Batman, or Ninja. Not by a long shot, of course! But I am saying that since it's a kids coaster, most of the ride properties and the coaster car itself is closer to the ground, so immersion is easier to achieve. You're literally surrounded by Looney Tunes sets and props, not just, well, the air and the sky. So kids, and kids at heart alike, would enjoy this ride very much--it's almost like becoming part of the cartoon.
Hmmm... I guess another way to put it is, this would be as close to a Disney ride as Six Flags would be able to provide. If that means anything.
Therefore, I think RRE deserves 4 stars because this is pretty much what a perfect miniature (and themed) coaster should look like ideally. It's got a clear steep upward slope, then the train comes down for few moderately thrilling drops, coupled with a handful of sharp turns. You're visually treated to the adorable hunter-hunted pair. And the entire duration of the ride is just long enough to justify a potential small wait time.
I honestly had more fun on this than I initially expected. (And it only took me over 10 years to finally give it a try. And I am glad I did.)
My fellow adults that have not borne any children, or anyone else who has no obvious reason otherwise to ride this coaster: If the wait time is anywhere from 0 to 10 minutes, put this on your 6 Flags bucket list. read more
