Consistently good service and an enjoyable place to eat. Food is always good. Although the prices were raised, which we did not mind, the food has shrunk! Burgers were much smaller and fries portion was lousy. We went away hungry and are now determined to try other places around the area. Previously loyal customers

    Awesome stage!

The service was excellent. Very attentive wait staff. Coming from Elgin we don't see many options for food on the way to Houston so it's hard to plan a good meal. We love burgers and we will go out of our way for a good burger but this wasn't it. BUT don't let that stop you until you read on there were some redemptive items we had! We tried the Jalapeno cream and what we received was a very dry burger although I ordered a medium burger what I received was a pre-made dried out patty. The portion did not justify the price. I was waiting for a ooey, gooey Jalapeno cream but what we got was a small square of some cheese type looking smear on the bun with jalapenos grilled on top. The jalapenos were great, the cheese substance was not. I was really disappointed because I was looking forward to a "new" burger. My husband and I split the Destruction burger as well. This was the bigger disappointment. For a "kitchen sink" type of burger experience there wasn't any queso but a tiny bit of "velveeta type" cheese beneath some inadquate pico. This was the burger that really disappointed. For touting an experience type burger they really dropped the ball on this one. We had a sliver of avocado and a piece of bacon. The "queso" was never beyond a small pat on the side of one side of the burger because most of it congealed on the side. The Great: the onion rings are the best I've had across the country! Huge portion, perfectly breaded, excellently seasoned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you do one thing, come and grab them with a nice cold beer, the inside is a very cool hangout with pool tables and a live stage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I absolutely love the way they brew their iced tea. Their ice tea is actually brewed and not powdered and their salad was also very nice. Their bbq sauce has to be the best I've also had. I love when I don't get the same syrupy sauce from place to place this is a winner! To call this a perfect place to get burgers is not exactly true. I believe their concept burgers are amazingly designed however their execution is lacking. The reason our cheeses sort of congealed on our burgers was because I believe they were left out for awhile. My son's burger, the Western Burger was pretty decent. I would visit again because I never write off a place with so many things to offer like location, ambiance, and great service, but I would definitely expect better for the price tag.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO GO!!! Very nice ambiance and excellent customer service. They had billiard tables and lovely lighting. Enjoyable background music. Food didn't take forever to come out. The Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger lives up to its name. Absolutely delicious. Chicken fried steak had amazing breading, nice crunch, not soggy like most places. The onion rings...don't get me started. Best onion rings I've had in a long time. Something about the breading is *chef's kiss* The milkshake though...FREAKING DELICIOUS. If you love chocolate shakes...this is the place to go!

We drive thru Paige often to head to the coast or Huston but truly didn't know this place existed since it's off the beaten path. I happened to be hungry and looking for something and poof it popped up. So here we go down the back road to this hidden spot We got there early in the day so it wasn't to crowded. We ordered a couple apps to try and of course since it was voted best I had to try the cream cheese jalapeño burger. The atmosphere was like an ice house bar feel, staff was friendly. It seemed like they have a high turnover since almost everyone was wearing an I'm in training shirt. So when our drinks sat empty and we weren't checked on it was no surprise. The mushroom appetizer and the poutine fry's were both very good and fresh. My burger was pretty damn tasty and the buns they use are amazing! Our only real complaint was our onion rings and truffle fry's were ice cold. My wife's chicken sandwich was seasoned great and was very juicy. We will give them another shot and hope for a lil bit better experience.

So glad we stopped in for lunch this past weekend! Our green chili queso cheese fries were tasty, and would have been even more so had they drained the green chili pork before placing it on top of the fries - the watery stuff added unnecessary liquid to a dish that would have been better without it. Our party ordered four different burgers. Everyone enjoyed theirs. I loved my jalapeño and cream cheese burger. At my server's suggestion, I ordered the jalapeños grilled. You should, too! The thick slice of cream cheese melted down and the whole flavor thing just worked. No wonder Texas Monthly magazine named it one of the "Top 50 Burgers in the State". The shaded back patio was perfect for outdoor dining. Staff were welcoming and friendly but a bit inattentive; we had to ask them to clear our used appetizer and salad dishes.

EAT HERE! What an incredible place to have dinner despite our large group of 22 people! Considering the small town Texas restaurant stop, our group unanimously agreed that this was a solid place to grab dinner, is family friendly, incredible service and great food for all taste types! Food ordered ranged from burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, fish and vegetarian meals and not a single one disappointed! In addition, the service was great and they had quite the impressive acoustic guitar player/singer working her magic on a Thursday evening. Our group thoroughly enjoyed their time and would make a pit stop at this local Texas restaurant anytime. We did call 24 hours in advance to advise of our large group and they were highly accommodating.

We…read morerandomly scrolled on YouTube and watched someone rated this THE BEST in Texas so we had to check it out. What makes this place unique is that they use charcoal, have make their own rub, you can order as many ounces up to 32oz I believe, and they only sell ribeye steaks. The place is called the general store because that's what it used to be when first started doing business in the 1980s but later expanded and converted into a steakhouse. We got there at 4pm and there was a little bit of a line already. The restaurant is only open three days a week each day from 5:30 to 9. On Thursday they have fried catfish and Friday and Saturday they sell only steak. The minimum order starts at 10oz and each ounce increment is a little bit extra charge. We ordered the 24 ounce to be shared between the two of us total is about $70 and we still have some leftover. The charcoal flavor was not overpowering, but the seasoning of the steak was perfectly balanced. Usually, I eat my steak with extra pepper or chimichurri, but this one I was able to eat without any extra seasoning. The surface of the steak look heavily seared but the medium interior was really juicy and succulent. I could taste more char on the edge pieces. After the steak we headed to their second shop next door for some malt shake. I got the cookies n creame flavor, it was milky and not overly sweet like any other milkshakes. And the malt flavor lingers on the tongue after each sip. I was debating to get another one but chocolate flavor but I was too full. Service there overall was very welcoming, and dining area is really big, the interior feels like an old western cabin but very clean and spacious. Great for family gatherings too. They also have a BYOB offer for people who love some good sips along with the smokey steak.

Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!

We started with the French Fried Onions, a bit too greasy for me but tasty. It is served with ranch dressing. I do not like ranch dressing so I asked for a side of BBQ sauce. We ordered the Prime Rib, which was delicious, came with a side and one trip to the salad bar. The salad bar is well stocked and fresh. I will also state the service was very nice. I have two complaints and they are connected. Earlier I stated that I asked for a side of BBQ sauce since I do not like ranch dressing. That was provided however no mention that it was at an additional charge. All you have to be upfront and say there is an additional charge for your request. I can then decide if I want that item and what the charge is. Since neither were provided, I was surprised to see it on my bill. I did not question the charge, it was just deleted from the tip. I will probably return however this is a teaching moment, if you are going to charge extra for a client's request, tell them you are and what the charge is. If not for this issue, my rating would have been higher.
