Their 12 oz sirloin was a disappointment. It was too thick and couldn't be cooked well done like I like it. Sent it back and they burned the outside of it and it was still raw in the middle. My wife got their stew special and it was served in a small salad bowl with mostly vegetables and very little meat. My dad's chili was a small portion too . It is a cool atmosphere and we used to love coming here. The past 2 times the food and service has seriously declined. After today's experience I do not think we will be back. Ordered the Philly steak and it came out with barely enough toppings to cover the bun. I pointed out there waa supposed to be green peppers amd they went back to check and said sorry let me take it and get them added. 5 minutes later they brought it back the same and said cook said it was on there underneath. I scraped off the microwaved looking Philly meat and counted 3 little pieces of green pepper. After watching the manager amd 2 high school waitresses standing there messing around the manager finally came over and asked if I wanted her to go get some green peppers and I told her no we are done now. She offered to discount my meal 50% and I told them I was military as well. So she went over there and the 3 of them continued talking and laughing. I guess that was because they were about to bring the bill with only the 10% military discount amd no other discount. I never do reviews but this was such a horrible service and food experience I had to share. This is the Second time that I have been extremely disappointed in this restaurant. Once again, the service was not great. We had a party of eight and some of our food wasn't even really warm. We had to ask our waitress multiple times for drinks. And I'm not sure if it was the manager or the owner, but you could overhear him Getting onto the kitchen staff, which in my opinion is not super professional. The service was excellent. Very attentive wait staff. Coming from Elgin we don't see many options for food on the way to Houston so it's hard to plan a good meal. We love burgers and we will go out of our way for a good burger but this wasn't it. BUT don't let that stop you until you read on there were some redemptive items we had! We tried the Jalapeno cream and what we received was a very dry burger although I ordered a medium burger what I received was a pre-made dried out patty. The portion did not justify the price. I was waiting for a ooey, gooey Jalapeno cream but what we got was a small square of some cheese type looking smear on the bun with jalapenos grilled on top. The jalapenos were great, the cheese substance was not. I was really disappointed because I was looking forward to a "new" burger. My husband and I split the Destruction burger as well. This was the bigger disappointment. For a "kitchen sink" type of burger experience there wasn't any queso but a tiny bit of "velveeta type" cheese beneath some inadquate pico. This was the burger that really disappointed. For touting an experience type burger they really dropped the ball on this one. We had a sliver of avocado and a piece of bacon. The "queso" was never beyond a small pat on the side of one side of the burger because most of it congealed on the side. The Great: the onion rings are the best I've had across the country! Huge portion, perfectly breaded, excellently seasoned. If you do one thing, come and grab them with a nice cold beer, the inside is a very cool hangout with pool tables and a live stage. I absolutely love the way they brew their iced tea. Their ice tea is actually brewed and not powdered and their salad was also very nice. Their bbq sauce has to be the best I've also had. I love when I don't get the same syrupy sauce from place to place this is a winner! To call this a perfect place to get burgers is not exactly true. I believe their concept burgers are amazingly designed however their execution is lacking. The reason our cheeses sort of congealed on our burgers was because I believe they were left out for awhile. My son's burger, the Western Burger was pretty decent. Quite disappointed! I am not understanding why they used styrofoam plates especially for the cost of the meal which is insane! Typically these dinners come with two sides. There was no roll or Texas toast. The salads were in styrofoam bowls and the Caesar dressing tasted super gritty! Fried mushrooms were great though. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes. My husband Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. Hubby said his entire meal was so cold and my mashed potatoes seemed like they were put in the fridge! Our second time here. Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Not a single one of our orders came out right, and the food was terrible. We asked for a refund and they handed us a 20% off coupon... like we'd ever come back?? Our waitress, Megan, didn't offer to fix anything, didn't apologize, nothing. She was super rude the whole time and acted like we were bothering her just by saying something was wrong. Then we asked to speak to a manager -- bald guy with a beard and glasses -- and he basically told us "there's nothing I can do" and refused to take anything off the bill. We drive thru Paige often to head to the coast or Huston but truly didn't know this place existed since it's off the beaten path. I happened to be hungry and looking for something and poof it popped up. So here we go down the back road to this hidden spot We got there early in the day so it wasn't to crowded. We ordered a couple apps to try and of course since it was voted best I had to try the cream cheese jalapeño burger. The atmosphere was like an ice house bar feel, staff was friendly. It seemed like they have a high turnover since almost everyone was wearing an I'm in training shirt. So when our drinks sat empty and we weren't checked on it was no surprise. The mushroom appetizer and the poutine fry's were both very good and fresh. My burger was pretty damn tasty and the buns they use are amazing! Our only real complaint was our onion rings and truffle fry's were ice cold. My wife's chicken sandwich was seasoned great and was very juicy. So glad we stopped in for lunch this past weekend! Our green chili queso cheese fries were tasty, and would have been even more so had they drained the green chili pork before placing it on top of the fries - the watery stuff added unnecessary liquid to a dish that would have been better without it. Our party ordered four different burgers. Everyone enjoyed theirs. I loved my jalapeño and cream cheese burger. At my server's suggestion, I ordered the jalapeños grilled. You should, too! The thick slice of cream cheese melted down and the whole flavor thing just worked. No wonder Texas Monthly magazine named it one of the "Top 50 Burgers in the State". EAT HERE! What an incredible place to have dinner despite our large group of 22 people! Considering the small town Texas restaurant stop, our group unanimously agreed that this was a solid place to grab dinner, is family friendly, incredible service and great food for all taste types! Food ordered ranged from burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, fish and vegetarian meals and not a single one disappointed! In addition, the service was great and they had quite the impressive acoustic guitar player/singer working her magic on a Thursday evening. My heart hurts to write this review. I have told so many people about this location. It had been a hidden little piece of heaven to stop at on the long drive from West Texas to Houston. On a trip to austin we were famished and decided to take a detour and try this place out. This restaurant is well hidden amongst trees and the parking lot is quite rocky but inside the place is very quaint and homey. They really outdid themselves decorating for Christmas. The staff was also very sweet and caring. I ordered the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Burger and let me tell you I was surprised as to how good it was. I was taken aback with the addition of cream cheese, however it complements the burger itself. I can see how this burger is one of the famous must try's. Wow.. So very disappointing. Should've stayed closed today. Wilted old salad. And the baby queso you served for the same price. The salmon rock hard. Ordered fried green tomatoes and you gave us like 5 small ones for 5 people. Sides were served in those baby sauce containers. We come here all the time so we noticed. Called ahead yesterday and was encouraged to make a reservation. I asked for a specific server only to have her training someone for the whole restaurant. Just say that. We visit this restaurant every time we are in Paige TX. Usually a great experience, this last time I was more angry about the company policies than anything. A sweet young lady was our server. She came to the table with a neon orange over sized T-shirt that basically said. I'm training. I felt bad for the young lady seeing is there was no one actually with her training her. She did it all by her self. So why the humiliating gigantic neon orange T-shirt? So I asked the obnoxious manager, the guy was arrogant and basically acted as if I was an idiot for asking. Man, I love the food at this place, so it sucks I won't ever be coming back. We were seated outside around 2pm on a Sunday. It was crowded, but we t was ok. We ordered chips and salsa (thank God) and sat and waited for our order to be taken. And waited. And waited. Order was taken, drinks were refilled... after sitting unattended with melted drinks for 45 mins, our waitress could see we were pissed and finally came to say something to us. It was too late, though. I asked for a manager (who never came) and said we wanted to cancel our order as there was no projected time it would be ready and we wanted to pay for our drinks and go get something to actually eat. They voided our check and sent us on our way. No apology, no trying to get our order done... nothing. We ordered two burgers with fries. That was it. Nothing crazy. Croutons were soft and sweet, and no one at my table was a fan. Dressing was a little sweet, not much of a fan either. But used the ranch from our fries, and it was good with that. Everyone at the table loved my Salisbury Steak the best. Teen Daughter 1 had a bacon cheeseburger (first time every trying one), and she loved it! Highest of praises! Daughter 2, had adult chicken strips. Adults is 5, and kids is 2. She got cream gravy. Extremely bland. Nothing could save it. And the breading for the chicken was too sweet. Fries were really good! But she ate 4 strips, so they were edible. All in all, even though we are just traveling through, if we come out this way again, we will definitely be stopping! NEVER AGAIN!!! where do i begin? waitress was rude from the start. eye rolling. sighs of annoyance of us. botched 2 appetizer orders. forgot to ring them in. took 45 minutes. they were cold. no refills. annoyed when i told her we were ready to order. 30 minutes later burnt overcooked destruction and avocado burgers, without...you guessed it!!! avocados!! she argued me when i told her they were missing. wouldnt bring condiments. wouldnt make my daughters shake. completely avoided us, but had time to check phone in restroom several times. no manager visit. no apologies. nothing. Not looking for a comp or free food. Just a better ran establishment. By the way, we have a combined total of 40 years in the industry. This isnt a thursday night rant.
