Ok, I'm the shmuck that orders seafood at a steakhouse so keep that in mind... seafood platter was good for deep fried. Sweet potato looked like a **** under low light, but was actually good with their whipped butter. Generous portions. Squash salad was a pleasant surprise. Service was great, coffee cup did not stay empty long. Had a taste of the steak: probably merits a 5 rather than just the 4 star I put here for my meal. Next time I'll get steak.

There is a LOT of food. Almost all meals come with beans, salad and breadstick, and a choice of sides that range from sweet potato to wild rice to seasonal veggies. You can see the list in the menu pic attached. Small Scallops with Wild Rice - 7/10 my scallops were lukewarm at best. They were perfectly cooked though and the wild rice did need some salt. Almost everything needed a little bit more salt. But it was good. Small Chicken Fried Steak with Baked potato - 3/10 My dad said everything was cold. The waitress was nice enough to take it off the bill. My mom ordered a glass of wine but that never came out and the waitress took that off the bill too. So service was good based on the fact that she took care of our problems and was very sweet. The biggest downside is that the heater wasn't on at the back of the restaurant, you can see the temp on the outside, and it wasn't showing a temp. So the majority of our time we were freezing. When we walked through the rest of the restaurant to leave, it was warm. So our eating experience was not a comfortable one. That's the 1 star off. We definitely want to come back and try it again. There's a nice selection to choose from too.

Came here for date night suggested by my fiancé, super cute place in Winchester. We came HANGRY and glad we did because these portions were LARGE. Food came out good and hot crispy and ready to eat. I took left overs home as well as a slice of banana nut cake and let me tell you that was so delicious perfect small pieces of dessert for yourself! Service was great, drinks are large too. We are definitely coming back again to feed these hungry bellies!

If I go in this place again "SHOOT ME"!!! Notice my other reviews. Management must hire visually impared cooks. Probably roadkill and old age beef I think!!! Their knife wouldn't cut it. just ripped. Worst steak in my life. I'm 70...

4th time here and each time I am blown away with the amount of food we get for the price! Came for lunch and was thinking burger but, the thought of how great the rib eye is! Ordered the 6 oz and as usual it was huge! It was cooked perfect as rare. Have not been daring enough for the blue rare. There is a smokey flavor that just makes you feel like you were at a friends who grilled it fresh for you. Opted for the wild rice instead of the baked potato. it was good, not great, lacked flavor but was a large serving. Salad comes with the meal and was fresh an crisp. Love the side of beans and bread stick. Had the fried pickles as a starter and they were perfect. The pic I took was after eating a bunch and then realizing I forgot to snap a pic. Totally enough to share. All of this is included in the price. Service was good and the server was friendly. The place is dark and nostalgic and you feel like your in Texas. As a still somewhat operating Post Office, it lends to a quirky vibe but, love taking visitors there. Definitely worth the scenic drive there and always enough to take home for lunch the next day!

I guess this place is a post office or part of a post office. Kind of a cool older building. The inside reminds me of an old saloon. We got the fried pickles and 6oz rib-eye with fries , salad, and beans. Im pretty sure their scale is broken because that steak was definitely bigger then 6oz. Well worth the price. Shout out to our waitress she was great and gave my son a little vanilla ice cream.

You'd never know or hear about this place if you don't know someone from around here. It's that out of place. Located in a very small town on the outskirts of a bigger small town it's a cool place to get a good meal at a very reasonable price. They're known for their ribeye steaks which my sister in law highly recommended. You order your steak by size, 6 - 12 oz, then by wellness, followed by your sides. It also comes with a small salad bar which has quite a few of the traditional toppings you'd find in the Midwest. Mother in law ordered cat fish which was pretty good. We also ordered deep fried pickles as an appetizer which we shared as an additional side dish. It was a bit of a drive for us from Bastrop, 1/2+ hours, and may not be worth it. It's really kind of in the middle of no where. If not where closer, it would be five stars.

It's very country looking, so that was appealing. We started with the fried pickles for an appetizer to share. Our group was a party of 3. The pickles were a perfect split for us. The ranch served with the pickles had a tartar sauce undertone taste. It was pretty good. We all had the sweet tea and lemonade mix. It was refreshing. I ordered the regular JW's burger on a classic white bun. The burger was okay. There was no special seasoning to it. I wasn't able to order it medium. From the looks of it, it was "done", so that is a little too done for me. I like mine a little pink. They use leaf lettuce. I prefer shredded. The pickles on my burger were cut lengthwise, and 2 of the strips still had the outer skin on them. Not a fan of that. The fries were good. They had a nice crunch to them. The service was great at JW's. Our drinks were never empty, the food came out fast, and our waitress was very nice. You can't get better than country service. It was a nice change from Houston where everything is hustle and bustle. We all three split a piece of coconut pie. It was okay, but to be fair, I am not a pie person. My coworkers thought it was terrific. If I am out that way again and decide to stop in, I will order something different. Maybe the chicken fried steak. The neighboring table ordered it and it looked good! Our bill for the 3 of us was $71 and some change before tip. That seems on point for 1 appetizer, 3 drinks, 3 entrees, and 1 piece of pie. It was crowded, especially for a weekday after the lunch rush in the country, so they must be doing something right.

I will say that the prices are on a steeper side; however, the portions are also generous. We had a pleasant meal here and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good, southern comfort food.

When we arrived and let the hostess know we had made a reservation, she just pointed to our table to be seated. There was a table with about 6 sitting at it. I assumed they were regulars because the hostess was super engaging with that one table. I get that but you have a room full of patrons, at least make an effort. Our server was polite but her attentiveness felt forced and not sincere. The dining room, itself, had an odor of backed up sewage. I realize it's an older building but, do better. I would probably give this restaurant another chance and would be interested to find out if the vibe would be improved with a different mix of folks dining at my table.

It wasn't over breaded. It was perfect. The stuffed crab was top-notch with a lovely sweet crab meat forward. Pair that with mash potatoes, salad and perfectly done squash casserole and you can't go wrong. Now to the steaks - done to order and generously sized. Very nice. Now to desserts!!!! I enjoyed it but thought it odd that at no point did anyone ask about allergies or dietary restrictions. My husband is pescetarian so obviously he could not drink the bone broth even though they poured it for him. Not a huge deal, but a little surprised at this caliber of restaurant. I ordered a non alc Venetian spritz which was a lot like an alcoholic aperol spritz. It was really bright and lovely. Would definitely order again. They have complimentary bread service with 3 delicious offerings to put on bread. Our server was attentive and had good recommendations. We ordered the octopus (DO NOT miss this one! For mains I got the short rib which was delicious- though not life changing and husband ordered risotto with artichoke which was spectacular. Dessert truthfully was a bit of a throwaway. We got the Basque pistachio cheesecake. I love a Basque cheesecake which is meant to be light and fluffy souffle like. This was not that. It was a mediocre standard cheesecake.
