Price is important, but with tree work, I believe safety, experience, equipment, and professionalism matter just as much. From the beginning, MG Tree impressed me. Their website is excellent--professional, easy to navigate, and packed with useful information. Their sales representative, Joe Hayden, arrived promptly, was professional, and had an estimate for me within hours. Best of all, he didn't try to upsell me or walk around my property looking for other work to sell me. The job itself was challenging. I have two very tall tulip poplars, my yard is on a hill, and the trees sit right on the property line with a driveway on each side. MG Tree showed up with the right equipment--a crane and bucket capable of reaching about 50 feet and maneuvering from one location to another. Other companies were talking about ropes, lifts, and repeatedly moving equipment around. That made me nervous. The crane gave the crew tremendous control over the trees, timber, and debris. Nothing was damaged. The foreman, Damian, was pleasant, polite, and professional. They did everything I asked for and more. And when they left, the cleanup was so thorough that you could hardly tell they had been there. Here's the part that really surprised me: despite having better equipment and a very professional operation, their price was extremely competitive--in some cases about half the price of less-equipped companies. When I considered safety, knowledge, professionalism, equipment, price, and the quality of the finished job, MG Tree was a perfect 10 for me. We got his detailed proposal within a couple days, and could tell he is trying to help us protect and keep trees while making sure they are not hazards. When we accepted his proposal I sent a picture of some large white pine limbs we lost that day due to the 16" wet snowfall. I had stacked the limbs in the street and without even letting us know, he sent a team to cut up and remove the debris from the street! And they even shoveled the snow away from the area. Plus they use electric equipment which is safer, quieter and more environmentally sensitive. So glad I met Steve and his company. Will be using them from now on.

I scheduled an estimate with Arader Tree service on 8/20 for 9/10. Three weeks out was the best…read morethey could do, and fine, it's a busy season for arborists. The appointment on 9/10 comes and goes and no one shows up. After an hour of waiting-- I've made plans to work from home and be available for when this is scheduled-- I call their office to see what the delay is. I'm told that due to staffing changes, this appointment has fallen through the cracks, but they'll arrange to send someone out. No one comes and I receive no call. When I call again at the close of business, I'm told that no one with the authority to reschedule is available and they will call me the next day with a new appointment time.  This dance continues over the course of the following week, over which period I call no less than five times. Several times I am promised a return call from Chris Arader himself, which never happens. I even call at a time I am assured he will be in the office, and when I do, he is not.  What the heck? This sort of behavior, while not uncommon, is tedious and unprofessional. It's particularly frustrating in this situation given the limited season (optimally) for tree pruning. I contacted Arader based on a recommendation as I was very disappointed.

It intertwined with another white pine in my neighbor's yard. They separated the two with very minor limb breakage to my neighbor's tree. The second tree was smaller by still pretty substantial. It was already dying, so probably a little lighter than a healthy tree. They lifted that tree off in one piece. They had both trees cut down and chopped up, with final cleanup in about two hours.
