The staff is generally not helpful or passionate about their work. One older woman actually walked me over to help with a plant selection and answer a question about the best place to plant the item back in the Spring. I have spent hundreds there since. Other than that, I feel brushed off. Today I asked if there would be any end of the summer sales. The associate replied "No, it's a week by week thing." She rang me up and I was about to leave when I noticed a sign on the counter: Buy 2 Perennials Get the 3rd Free. I looked at her and questioned. Can I go pick out another perennial, I just bought 2. She looked a bit annoyed and stated "...as long as it's $13.99 or under." I was perplexed. Ordered decorative external ceramic plates for a pellet stove, made appointment for cleaning and intall of the ceramic tile. He came did the cleaning and when finished I asked about the tile and he said said he installed a brick pot (no clue what this is, my husband handles the mechanics of it). I paid for the service which was a ridiculous price come to find out and called Robbins to get the situation rectified. She basically lied and said I ordered the brick pot and said we needed it anyway. Then told me they were still going to charge me for install even though it was their fault. DO NOT USE THEM. I have been burning Pellets for over 5 years. I would highly advise not to deal with this supplier. I ordered in September of 2024. Was told November I'd get them and now it's excuses saying they haven't come in and that we will have to wait until December. You can't take someone's money and not deliver a product, that's considered stealing. Said I was offered two options to pay, I don't remember those, I was asked for a credit card. If they had given an exact date and something had happened, understood. Last year it was their truck broke. I gave them another shot this year. I should have been aware of the 2.9 star review. Lee and the other employees are not great at customer service from my experience. I explained and stated that I would be writing a review and she resorted to saying it was a threat and that you and your wife double teamed by calling and what don't you get? She asked if I had a website she could write a bad review against me. Also, You are obviously not listening etc.. Things not to say to customers. I was super calm when talking as well due to me not having a voice. I asked for a refund. She said I can't refund you the full amount because the credit card takes a processing fee. That is not my fault, they can fight the credit card company to get this back. You buy and return something anywhere you don't get penalized if that supplier cannot provide the service. However, I spoke with local police about this, it is a civil matter and I will not chase it over $100. Will just take my business elsewhere. read more

Ordered 3 ton in August (paid cash), and told it would deliver in September. I have been calling every month looking for the delivery only to be told next month. They are extremely rude and condescending stating its not their fault the suppliers are not delivering to them. It is now January and still no product. Went there on Monday to cancel the order and get my money back only to be handed a check from BOA. Went and cashed the check and the bank withheld $8 as I am not a customer of theirs. STAY AWAY!!! I ordered a little over 5 tons of wood pellets in the middle of August of 2024.I paid cash for this so you figure I would be a priority. It is the end of November and there was still no signs of getting the pellets. I've called every week since October only to be rudely brushed off and told use your electric heat then. The reason we bought the pellets was to not use the electric heat. I have never dealt with such rude incompetent people than I have with this business. When ordering I was told I could only order the ones that had a price next to it because those were the ones in stock. Well obviously they weren't in stock bc here it is 4 months later and absolutely nothing! I've put out $1800 for my initial order and since it's been cold I've actually had to go elsewhere and buy another $300 worth to get through. Finally after the absolute shitshow dealing with these people I went in Tuesday to get my money back. Keep in mind again I paid cash. When I asked for my refund the very rude and arrogant front end lady started to get loud and told me that she would give me the $1800 in a check. I told her this was unacceptable because I paid cash and I don't want to have to wait 3-5 business days for her check to clear in order to go elsewhere and buy pellets this is also Thanksgiving week so it would take that much longer for the check to clear. .She told me that they don't carry that much cash in the store and to come back Friday. Again this is unacceptable! Well other customers had come in at that time and as she kept insisting I would have to come back on Friday just to get my cash back I told her I would wait for the day until she could get me my cash. Seeing the customers and knowing this interaction was going south real quick she told me to come back tomorrow instead of Friday This is the day before Thanksgiving not like I don't have anything else to do on the holiday week. Extremely rude customer service. They took an order and payment for wood pellets. I waited for a month and had not heard back from them for a delivery time. I called they said in another month. I called back a month later to see where the order is. They person on the phone was very rude and told me another month, there's nothing they can do about it because the supplier is slow. I called back a month later and the story is they do not know when the pellets will come in. I then asked for a refund on a Thursday, and was told it will take 4 days to post to my credit card. I called them 7 days later to ask if they processed the refund. The response was they did it this morning. They were "busy"Again, they are very rude and snapped at me when I asked them about another order. Noone should have to wait over a week for their money back on an order that was never delivered. Like other customers stated, we would like to do business with a local company but not when we are treated so disrespectfully. I have been a customer for years and dealt with the rudeness, but Ive had enough. Stay away from this place. They are charging fees for using a credit card by saying that they give a 3% discount for cash transactions....which is illegal in Massachusetts! So basically if you use a credit card they add 3% to the total. For cash transaction they don't add the 3 %. So that's the discount??? Hahaha read more

My wife went there to buy a plant and when she went to pay for it, they told her that there would be an additional 31/2 percent charge because she was using a debit card. She left to go get money but decided to all the Mass.gov website concerning that practice of paying for something and then having to pay another percentage to use a cc. Accoding to the Mass law that is illegal and they can not charge you. When she asked for the Mgr she said that she charges the same price if paid cash and it is a different price if you use a cc. so the plant is not discounted if paid by cash but it is more if you use a cc. So, they right off the credit card expense for the use of the machine and what the bank charges but then charges the people to get their money back. Isn't that double dipping. I believe that this practice is illegal , according to Mass law. her anwer to her was everyone does it. so I guess that makes it right. Will never go back to Robbins Nusery in Oxford. We don't like be ripped off , knowing they are writing off the cc fee as a buiness expense on their taxes and then charging the consumer. Horribl practice , that have a very big opertion , with plants, flowers, mulch and pellets. Will never return again. Charged me $40 for 2 Coreopsis plants.... and ALL of the flower stalks fell off the plant when I went to plant them. I've never had that happen before. They were on the back of a bottom shelve on a rack - but Robbins still managed to charge me $20 dollars for each plant. I returned the next day with the plants and showed them the branches FELL RIGHT OFF... they said they would not take them back "Because they were Perennials". The second excuse they gave me was "they were healthy when they left the store". They were not healthy. The RUDE Manager just turned around and shut the office door on me. Robbins Garden Center makes a ton of money and when they sell someone defective plants, they should be fair to the customers. Instead they chose to be RUDE after selling defective plants. We have been buying Pellets from Robbins for years. Last delivery(September 2021). We ordered 4 tons, we opened the first ton and the smell of the bags were HORRIBLE. We called and spoke with them and gave us little options- just let them air out they said(smells like Animal urine- ammonia like). Well we let them air out as well as the 2nd ton and now on to our third ton. You Can Not carry the bags close to your clothes as the smell penetrates your clothes. We keep our pellets in the garage and walk down a short hall through the kitchen to the pellet stove. It has been a very disappointing experience. The woman that are at the store are never pleasant- I gave that a pass. Kill them with kindness my motto. Well the pellets pushed both my husband and I over the edge. First and foremost - I have been ordering pellets from Robbins for the last few seasons and up until this most recent transaction, I've had nothing but good things to say. That being said, I was called the day before my pellets were set to arrive and told that the brand I selected over a month ago were now out of stock. Not a big problem. But then I was informed that my options were to get a pellet with a lower BTU, and higher ash content for the same price I paid for a premium pellet. And if I wanted to get to a comparable pellet as my original order without sacrificing heat and cleanliness of my machine, I would be charged $20 more for the more premium brand. A normal response from a business that realized they oversold/couldn't deliver on something you ordered a month ago would be to eat the $20 and upgrade you to the comparable brand pellet. Why should I have to get a less premium brand for the same price I ordered a better pellet a month ago? I'll take my order elsewhere next season. After spreading it out evenly I noticed that it is full of rocks. They claim that it gets sifted but there is no way it should look like it does. I told em I wanted my money back as my yard is full of rocks now. Even when no one else is in the store, they seem annoyed to have to help a customer. About a month ago, I went in to ask about part I needed for my pellet stove. They quickly said they don't make it for my model of stove. I pulled it up on the website and showed them that they do. They then said for me to write my name and number and that someone would call me back two days later. It has been weeks and they still haven't called back. I'm a lover of nurseries and all things home & garden - especially around the Holidays, summertime, springtime, fall, you get the picture! I'm somewhat new to the area and visited Robbins Garden Center three times now, once per season for the last three years. I keep thinking it was just a bad day for the owners/workers but I'm more and more convinced that they're horrible business owners and don't value and appreciate their customers. I've overheard arguments amongst the staff, even when customers were clearly within earshot. I've been treated - and seen other customers treated - with disrespect and annoyance. They just don't seem to care! I don't know if it was a family business for generations and the current generation is not appreciative of owning a business and just expects the reputation their parents/grandparents built to carry them through or not but they're just horrible!! They certainly don't seem to appreciate their local gardeners and families that want a wholesome local Garden Center to shop with or just stop in on a whim. Felt very unwelcomed! Because you have to give a star, obviously, I give it one. I wish I could give 0. Had pellets delivered to our home. Driver stated, to my wife, he could not deliver where we wanted them and when my wife expressed that we have had pellets delivered in the spot before he told her impossible. He then told her he had no time to hang around and figure it out (not exact words). So, having two pallets dropped. Turned into her having to move them one by one to the place we requested them delivered. I immediately called the store and explained what just happened and was immediately received with an extremely rude response. There was no empathy for a 50+ year old woman being left pellets that needed to be moved. No concern for the customers experience. What I received was this response, "Well I don't know what happened between the two people." It's at the discretion of the driver. I was so taken back by the lack of caring or concern from this company by the way this, ME, customer was left with feeling. I even mentioned that I would be going on line to write a review and obviously it would not be a good one. She accused me of threatening her.....really! I explained in no way was that a threat but a statement of fact! As a consumer, and in the world of technology, everyone is doing and I review my experiences often the good, bad and in this case Ugly. I explicitly said I can't believe that you, as a business, wouldn't even offer to refund the delivery charge. There was not one word, and this is the truth, uttered that said I'm sorry for your experience. Or a thought of how they could they make it better. What I was meet with was an extremely unprofessional person who, in my opinion, called me a liar and told me that my wife (who is moving 80 bags of pellets) should have called. Questions: Would she have said to my wife I'm sorry and I don't need to verify with the driver what you said because, I Believe YOU, even if there is a slight discrepancy you should have had a better experience? Awful delivery service. I had 3 tons of pellets delivered to my house and they destroyed my lawn. When I confronted them about it they didn't care. They made it seem as if it was my fault. They did not want to work with me, they were not apologetic and was just as happy to get rid of me. This was the first and last purchase I will ever make from them. The woman over the phone told me there would be no damages as they use a manual lift to maneuver the pellets. However, that is not the case as my lawn looks like a demolition derby took place on it. When I contacted the BBB about the incident, Robbin's claimed that I (the customer) was lying and that the woman never told me about the manual lift. I can't get over how unprofessional they have been about this situation. This is why we shop at the big box stores. They own up to their mistakes and make it right. I can't say that is even remotely close to what Robbins has done.... Just plain awful. Stay far, far away from there. read more

On 10/11/14, I had Robbins Garden Center clean my pellet stove. I was charged $234.56 for this service call. On 1/14/15, barely 3 months later, I woke up at 2 am because my pellet stove smelled. I shut the stove off and saw hot embers falling outside my window. I went outside and saw that the top of the stack was covered in embers that were falling onto my roof. I immediately called the fire department. The fire department went up on the roof and took the cap off the pipe. They said that the cap was completely clogged. I don't believe that Robbins' serviceman cleaned all the way up the pipe when he was here on 10/11/14. I requested that Robbins send someone out again on 1/14/15, which they did do, for a fee of $125. They had all kinds of reasons for why this could happen, none of which were their inadequate service call. According to them, cold air at the top of the stack promotes condensation on the pipe which can cause the hot ash to stick and could cause a fire. They seemed to be blaming this on the fact that I had the pipe extended above my roof in order to avoid getting soot on my house. If the cold air was the issue, I think the fire department would be very busy. I've had the same set up since 2011 with no prior issues. The only thing that had changed was the person I had clean my stove. I truly regret that decision. I don't suggest using Robbins to clean your pellet stove. If you do, watch them to make sure they are thorough. I wish I had. read more
