I heard of a truly honest mechanic and I just had to see this with my own eyes! After jumping her 2007 Scion we headed to Bayamo Repair Centre. Rolie greeted us and immediately popped the hood to take a look. He could have tried to convince my wife that her blinker fluid was low, but he pointed out the corrosion on the battery looked bad, but was not the problem. He went all Click & Clack (the Tappet Brothers from NPR) on us with questions about sounds and odd things that we noticed over the past two weeks. He deduced that the battery charge was too low to start the car, but the after market alarm installed 10 years ago had a back-up that allowed it to go off nice and loud. He gave us several options for replacing the battery. We chose a new Interstate battery. He asked my wife for her alarm remote. Turns out she lost that over two years ago. Who is going to steal a 10-year old Scion? So we had him remove the alarm as well. Maybe he can resell it to someone else because he only charged us as much as the battery alone was quoted to us from several garages near my office in Coral Gables! Once those garages added labor and the oil change it was twice what Bayamo charged! (We got an oil change as well.) We will be back and referring others. If nothing else, to get the NPR treatment from a man who genuinely loves his craft and was very honest.

The manager told me the parts didn't fit and that the mechanics had replaced them with "rubber spacers" without asking me. That's dishonest and unprofessional. Because of their poor planning, I had to bring my vehicle back three separate times just to fix issues that should've been handled the first time. To make things worse, they charged me an extra $200 for "new" rear springs as part of my lift kit installation. Later, I found out those springs were actually used parts from a scrap yard and were already worn out. Now I have to spend another $195 to buy the correct, new springs myself. Overall, the lack of communication, organization, and honesty was extremely disappointing. If you're considering getting a lift kit or any serious work done, go somewhere else you'll save yourself a lot of time, money, and headaches.
