I had foot surgery with Dr. Matteucci last year. He recommended three surgeries for arch pain. After having had two foot with him within 6 weeks I refused the 3rd. I had more pain than I originally had from before I was seen. I sought a second opinión. The new podiatrist did not understand why Dr. Mattueucci did the procedures he did. I had to have yet another surgery to help correct my original problems I had plus new ones Dr. Matteucci created. If you need foot surgery, run while you can. I will continue to be non-weight bearing for several more months, The time I spend with Dr. Matteucci was a complete waste! read more

Where do I start? I had been dealing with sharp heel pain for months. Finally I couldn't handle it anymore so I tried getting in to my doctor but he was scheduled 2 months out. Wanting relief now, I googled foot pain and Great Midwest Foot and Ankle came up. I called and they got me in that day. I was happy that I was going to get some relief and never researched the clinic nor it's doctors. I saw Dr. Matteucci and he diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel. "I think that Tarsal Tunnel is your main problem" as he drove his thumb into my foot just below the ankle bone. It hurt like hell. Said we'd start with shots and stretching. Hoped that it would work itself out. After 3 months when that didn't work he said I'd need surgery. He explained that the surgery should be about 45 minutes..."after fixing your tarsal tunnel (30 minutes +/-). I'll clean up your planter fasciitis (15 minutes +/-)." He wanted to do it in their Surgery center but that wasn't in my network so we went the Ascension Elm Brook Memorial Hospital (thank god). When I got there I was told by the nurse that I was scheduled for a 2.5 hour surgery to fix a bunch of things (muscle belly ___, heel bone spur, tarsal tunnel, plantar fasciitis and whatever else they find. A little while later the anesthesiologist came in and introduced himself. After repeating everything on the surgery list, the anesthesiologist recommended putting me to sleep instead of the twilight dose I was told I'd be getting. I agreed and said to do what he thought was best. Ultimately the procedure took about 35 minutes according to the updates my wife got while she waited. Afterwords Dr. Matteucci said he spent more time on my plantar fasciitis than my tarsal tunnel because he thought that it was the true source of my pain...just the opposite that he told me all along. After a couple of weeks, I was able to move around. Soon I realized I had a new problem...I couldn't stand in one place for more than a few minutes before the arch in my foot would start to throb. When I told that to Dr. Matteucci he replied " you've probably always had it...now that we fixed the other two, you feel this one. Just fyi...while waiting for him to come to my room at the clinic I had heard him say this statement to other patients in other rooms. My family all gave me crap for going to a "Google doctor". Four months of worse pain in my foot than when I first went, I contacted MOSH and made an appointment with Dr. Guelstrof. Although he believed that I still suffered from tarsal tunnel, he sent me to have a nerve study done that determined that I did still have tarsal tunnel!!! I was looking for a nail technician and corn removal. Found promotion on-line for FREE nail care, booked appointment. Ended up getting billed $1467.00 (mostly paid for by insurance) $737 billed to Medicare (no procedure listed), $167.00 Office New Low Co-pay (whatever that is) and a Drainage of Skin Abscess Deductible other PR -(whatever that is). He took x-rays and never shared any findings and painfully manipulated my foot. Skeptical of the 'glass' he found in the corn. When I asked him about what the requirements were for Medicare to pay for nail care he said, 'there is always something!' That sounded fraudulent to me!! When he started to leave the room I asked 'what about my nail care?' and he said, "come in next week right before your cruise' and walked out of the room. I had big foot issues - bunions, nerve pain, hammer toes - not pretty and really painful. Dr. Matteucci's knowledge of what was wrong and what needed to be done, convinced me it was time to get surgery done and out of the way. Well, within 2 days, only using Naproxen for the swelling, discomfort, I was able to walk PAIN FREE. It was a great relief. I am 6 months out from surgery - my foot is still healing - but it is so much better. There is only a bit of swelling (normal and not painful) and my scars (which are many) are slowly fading. Dr. Matteucci's team, including his on call staff, answered my questions. They have treated me so well - respectfully but also friendly. Today, I am so happy I did this surgery. Made an appointment at the Germantown location. Got there 5 minutes before our appointment and waited for 40 minutes before I walked away and told them the wait was ridiculous for their free foot screening. Even after scheduling an appointment. The receptionist didn't seem to care. That was last week and until today no one tried to call to reschedule much less apologize for the wait I had to experience. Not good customer service at all. Not to mention I had to leave work early in order to make it to this appoint. Won't waste my time here again. read more

Dr Yapp is the absolute worst "doctor". NEVER trust your foot to him. He is a salesman looking to make a quick buck and doesn't care about what he screws up in your foot and ankle. I will honestly tell you to never go to him. He left my ankle in a terrible state after a surgery he preformed that he wasn't qualified to do so. He put an anchor in too far and left me to walk in constant pain for 8 months! It's over a year later after having it taken out to still be in constant misery from what he did to me! He's a liar and a thief. He's a salesman, not a true caring Doctor. Do yourself a favor and see an Orthopedic Surgeon who is a foot specialist. They will have a team of caring professional people who will do what you need with accurate results. I tell you this truly from my terrible experience with these people. There is 4 locations to great Midwest foot and ankle. My new update is, I have arthritis in my foot and two of those quacks were telling me I needed injections into the Tarsel Tunnel and also will need surgery. That was a total Lie! They were injecting me with cortisone and it was into a healthy area! Over time I'm sure it would have caused damage and they would be sure to rush the surgery talk. Run far far from the quacks! Only see an orthopedic surgeon, NEVER a podiatrist. They are not the same thing. My foot is screwed up because of that quack Tyler Yapp. Another update, when he took anchor out, he left bone fragments and the hole in bone. Never repaired the hole. I went to Dr. Matteucci owner of Great Midwest Foot and Ankle for bunion surgery on my right foot. He also said he could address what was beginning to be a hammertoe on my second toe. I ended up with a mangled foot and constant pain. While in post recovery sessions I had asked Dr. M. why the second toe leaned to the third toe while the big toe angled outwards. Although I asked him about the toe positions several times, each time Dr. M said that they "only looked crooked." I later consulted with four physicians who agreed that Dr. Matteucci had shortened the tendons so much it caused the big toe to angle upward too much, resulting a constant blister under the toenail and damage to the sesamoid bone. I also could not wear shoes because of this. One physician told me the second toe was cut and resected so badly, that nothing could be done. I was able to have the tendons lengthened so that my big toe no longer stuck in the air. However, the second surgeon was not able to straighten the bone because of the damage done in the first surgery. Note that I had previously had the bunion surgery on my left foot by a now-retired surgeon and had no problems. The previous surgery healed well and left me with no pain. Also, Dr. Matteucci touts his private "surgery" which is just a surgical suite in back of one of his offices. He claims the charges will be less. The charges invoice submitted to the insurance company were more than those charged by the Orthopedic Hospital that the second surgeon used. His staff also told me that my surgery would be covered on four separate occasions including on the day of surgery. He was involved in one of those conversations. Surgery done at Dr. M's was not covered and I cannot believe that he did not know of the issues. Overall, a physician who would either lie about or could not see the obvious negative condition of the toes after surgery and who is dismissive of concerns, is not someone I could ever recommend. I completely disagree with the review below about Dr. Yapp. I had foot and ankle surgery with him over a year ago and because of him I am no longer experiencing the excruciating pain I had to deal with before I seen him. He is an exceptional and knowledgeable doctor with excellent patient skills. I am now able to go about my daily life pain free because of him.
