Case in point: I had a pretty bad allergic reaction around my eye. On a Sunday I visited a walk in clinic run by Abington Hospital (excellent) and they treated it with antibiotics and told me to make sure my doc sees it the following day. (There can be an issue of infection with bites and your eye is basically an extension of your brain so it has to be watched and evaluated daily as you don't want a brain infection). I walked into the empty waiting room and asked to see any doc for a quick look. The receptionist said, "Our records are now all digital so I can't get you in." I then pointed out the waiting room was rather empty and I would be happy to wait until someone could "squeeze me in". 15 min later a nurse came out and said they were "overwhelmed" (her words) and there was no one who would have time to see me. (Waiting room was still empty). I have worked in a medical hospital for a few years and I can tell you they have no idea what "overwhelmed" means. This office has a moral obligation to treat patients who walk in and have an issue that needs immediate attention. This staff has no idea what that means or care if they help you or not. When the man handling the call came back online he immediately wanted to know my ID number. (My ID number?) "What ID number?, I asked. "You're insurance ID number," I was told.
