I was there a couple days ago and I had a terrible experience with the employee helping me. He was very slow and gave really dry responses, when I asked for a price he ignored me twice. I also asked to try multiple pairs and he kept giving me attitude. I wish I knew this persons name, but he was tall with an odd looking goatee and had his shirt tucked in. Every time he gave me a pair of shoes he would walk away and begin talking with his other co worker. However, the older gentleman at the front counter who I assume is the owner of the place helped me with the questions I had. I hope he realizes the person that helped me was one lazy and odd individual. Other than him making my first experience bad and weird, everyone else that worked there was lovely. read more

A great spot in downtown Mamaroneck. This store has the best selection of New Balance shoes I've ever seen. I shopped here for the first time this week when they were having a footwear sale. I found great items at unbelievable deals. I now have sneakers for a year! The store was busy, and the staff was friendly and efficient. I will definitely come back when I have some more time to see what other great finds I can come across. read more

Roberts is great. They have an entire room, which could have been a store in itself, full of Carhartts. They have an entire room, which could also have been a store in itself, full of boots of all the brands I am looking for: Red Wing, Sorel, Wolverine, etc. The main room has the standard Army Navy clothing lines, but with mostly the quality name-brands like Levi's and Woolrich. It's not high end, but it is pretty complete and functional. Prices are exactly what would be expected, in a good way. I would definitely make a trip here again when looking for quality clothes that survive. read more

I have been buying my work clothes and boots at Roberts, in Mamaroneck, for the past three years. I went to buy another pair of work boots and socks today. Store was very busy due to coming snow storm, which I understand. However, the guy that was taking care of me was running around taking care of numerous people. Again, I understand. So I asked a young sales rep to get me a bigger size. When young sales rep came back with bigger size, it was an old pair, color was faded, completely a lighter color from the pair I tried on first time. The front of boots looked beat up and when I tried on the pair of boots they didn't feel comfortable at all. When I asked the young sales rep why does this pair look and feel different from the first pair? And showed him both pairs of boots so he can see and compare them, another sales person who had nothing to do with conversation said with a very nasty attitude "that's cause it was a display, collected a lot of dust and needs to be clean" and tried to clean boot but the dust was not coming off. I explained to him I'm paying $234 dollars plus tax and I'm not buying a display pair of boots. I also told him the front of the boots is not just dusty, it looks like a defective pair. He replied again with a nasty attitude "well don't buy them". I told him he doesn't need to be so rude. All I wanted was a different pair. I deal with customers all day and they can be very disrespectful at times. I told him I refuse to be disrespected when I'm the customer spending money. He started running his mouth, so I told him I would like to speak to his manager. Once the manager and owner came out, I tried to explain my situation. They didn't try to listen to what I had to say and felt like they both had an attitude towards me. Don't know what the rude rep said about me, But I'm sure it was not nice. The kicker is manager told me the sales rep with attitude was not supposed to work today that's why he's acting that way and to work with him. Huh, that is not my problem. I'm a paying customer trying to support my neighborhood stores. I told him I have been coming here for the past three years and he replied " I can understand if you don't want to shop here anymore". The pros are that they stock a lot of upper middle tier working gear. Carhartt, Woolrich, Muck Boots, Kinco, etc. Once in a while you can snag bargains like Carhartt pocket tees or Kinco winter gloves. If you need gear desperately they will suffice if you can't wait on shipping. The cons are they cost 40% more than online. Don't be colored and walk around you'll be followed. Parking can be rough on weekends. read more

I was shopping at Roberts for 50 years since I was a Kid. I would even go out of my way to buy from a local store instead of a large chain. I purchased some things that didn't fit and when I went to return them and was told without a reciept could only get "Store Credit" I explained to the clerk that I had purchased them the day before and I did not have the receipt. I then picked up my goods and proceded to leave. The clerk said sorry that's our policy, and I told him it was my policy not to shop at a store with such policy's. When I got home I tried to call "Manny" the owner who was not in and left a message for him. However he never returned my call. I really liked Robert's and I still do. The real kicker here is I didn't want store credit all I wanted to do was exchange my clothes for the proper size, but they never offered me that option or returned my call. Even though I like the store I won't shop at a store if they can't accept a return intelligently. I don't think they earn my buisness. That's my policy! read more

I've been shopping at Roberts since I was 15, or almost 50 years. I'm aware of one change of ownership and the staff has always been consistently resourceful and reliable. Anything I've ever purchased is very good quality, very durable and for a local store the prices are very fair. These types of stores have a distinct advantage over online purchases in that the shopping is more personalized, the staff is knowledgeable and they help you make the best decision. read more
