    H&R Block

Paid $450 to have my taxes compiled. That was 8 MONTHS ago. No sign of my tax return. I have been…read moreon 2-3 hour long calls with the IRS no less than 2x a month. I have had to take time out of work to schedule meetings with the IRS. The whole time I've been trying to reach Kim in the Neenah, WI H&R Block branch. That's where this gets fun. The Neenah branch has a wacky zero-contact rule. They outright refuse to let customers reach them. No matter the time of day, whether they're open or not, they route you to a message center. That message center refuses to offer any information. They simply demand all kinds of info from the customer and then tell you to set an appointment. I tell them I don't need an appointment, I just need to speak with Kim. "Yes ma'am, that requires an appointment. Kim can call you back two weeks from next Tuesday if you like". It's the most absurd thing ever. So I set the stinking appointment. But Kim never calls me back. Eventually, her husband Terry calls from another branch. He has no idea who I am. I tell him the whole problem from the beginning. I explain that as he called me I had been on an automated line with the IRS for 45 mins and I can't even get a live person. So here's what he does for me - he calls that line and figures out the routing to get to a live person. He then calls me back and directs ME to call the IRS again, says when I get the voice prompts I need to press 5, then 1, then 2-4-1-1 then dance a little jig and I might get to speak to someone. That's it. EIGHT STINKING MONTHS I've been trying to track down either the tax return that H&R Block muddled so badly I haven't seen it, or get H&R Block to actually earn the $450 the (at this point, essentially stole without providing one bit of product or service in return). And they instruct me on how to do it for them????? SUPER! So I get the live person, I set the appointment, I take unpaid time away from work to meet with the IRS and you know what I learn? H&R Block Misfiled it, my tax return doesn't exist!!!!! It's not out there, it's not coming to me, and I paid for the privilege. So I call H&R Block back. By this time I'm PISSED. They refuse to get me through to the message line unless I leave all kinds of crazy information. I am not in a place to leave information, I've been doing this for months and now I'm just crazy pissed. Get me to their voicemail, I demand. It doesn't matter who I am. I'm a pissed off customer and I want to speak to the person that mismanaged my account so badly. Nope - unless I will calm down (I am not calm) and cough up more info into this waste of my existence, I will not be granted permission to so much as get a voicemail for anyone at H&R Block. Eventually the messaging center "terminates the call" because I'm not jumping through their hoops anymore. So, maybe they actually read these reviews. Maybe the "Accuracy Guarantee" will get someone to do something. I don't' want a call to tell me how I can do the footwork I already paid them to do. I want them to actually FIND MY FREAKING TAX RETURN and call me to tell me EXACTLY when it will be in my hand. Not tell me how to find it. Not tell me who to meet with. I PAID H&R BLOCK AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR ME. Save yourself. Do not use this company. It's been a headache for a whole year. I would never, ever do that to myself again and I highly recommend you go ANYWHERE but here. H&R Block in Neenah - your policies are ridiculous, your refusal to actually assist is unbelievable and your prices are nearly double what ANY other company charges. For what??? You did nothing for me. You've guaranteed the loss of this customer, and I'm going to spread the word on every social media site I can. Nobody should go through this nightmare.

My experience with H&R Block was horrible. As a divorced father with custody, I am eligible for…read morehead of household status and provided an 8332 form that stated my ex would not claim an exemption for my child. The older man I was working with, Charlie, insisted that I had to file as single because I was divorced. I asked to speak with someone else, Charlie walked around the office for awhile, came back and said I had to prove my child lived with me for 7 months of the year. I tried to explain the purpose of the 8332 form (release of exemption) to no avail. I wound up walking out of the place. Today, I went to a cpa, filed as head of household and will get a nice return. Stay away from Charlie and you might be alright. Then again, Charlie, the "tax expert" is employed there so who knows what the qualifications of the other "experts" are. If I would have been entirely naive, Charlie's "expertise" would have cost me around $3,000.
