We fell upon Community Thrift Store almost inadvertently. They have plenty of framed pictures and wall hangings, some well-priced, some over the top. I have no interest in anything mass-produced that looks like it belongs in Motel Six. Simply put, I know what I like when I see it. And I saw it! A nicely framed, beautifully matted and signed photograph by R.C. Fulwiler from Saugatuck, MI. Reasonably priced at $15, it was also eligible for a 40% discount. Score! Community Thrift has furniture, most in very good shape. (Maybe I should have bought the solidly-built handmade table, also priced at $15.) There's a rack of clothing, supposedly from Chico's -- eh -- and other items one normally finds thrifting. Walking out I noticed that the store is under the direction of Shell Point, a wonderful senior community that houses the Tribby Gallery. (Tribby's exhibits always pique my interest. If you're local, check their schedule.) Proceeds go towards combatting Parkinson's disease. I like this place!

If you're in the market for used furniture, check 'em out. I saw a number of items I would consider ... and I'm picky about what goes in to my home. Look for discounts. Glassware, fifty cents. Pictures, full price for one, a dollar for the second. Noritake China with plenty of pieces, $150. (The same set on Ebay for $1,000 plus shipping.) Eight cool-looking comfortable kitchen chairs, $10 each. The main reason I thrift is to find unique, often vintage pieces that are hard to replicate. Plus it doesn't hurt to save money and recycle.
