As you many know Hall Green is a large residential area therefore there are a lot of news agents so I think what would make Sai news stand out is having a larger selection of food and drinks and possibly sell stamps. I thought the owners were friendly as they gave a good greeting when I walked in. The prices are cheap, which is great for everyone who wants to save money and especially as I am a student.

They also had a great selection of general groceries, and the shop was clean and well-presented. Probably the best newsagents I've been to in the past few weeks. This newsagents is deceptively small. It has a large frontage but inside it seems to be the opposite of a tardis. An anti-tardis, if you will. It can be a bit difficult to walk down the aisles (although that's a generous term) if there are any more than one of you heading for the same area in the shop. They seem to be very well stocked with magazines and small bottles of spirits. And slightly less well-stocked with a decent selection of sandwiches. It's pretty much a standard corner shop/ newsagents really. Except that their chewing gum seems to be vastly expensive. Or maybe it's just that I haven't bought any chewing gum for the past 15 years and the price has gone up considerably...

We're talking a fairly small shop (much smaller than the deceptively large store front would have you believe), crammed full of all manner of day to day goods, from cereal to spam, toiletries and cleaning products to newspapers, magazines, and in the digital age, what seems like an especially large selection of pornographic magazines. Oh, and there's a fair bit of booze as well, all in an area smaller than an average office. It's not particularly special a newsagents and doesn't arose any particular emotion in me, but then again, do any newsagents arouse passion ? Answers on a postcard please......

The Paper Shop, ambiguously named though it is, does so much more than its name suggests. I've reviewed numerous newsagents and similar shops in my time with Yelp, but I struggle to recall a shop quite as eclectic as The Paper Shop. As well as the expected confectionaries and drinks to accompany the newspapers and magazines, they also do extremely cheap slush puppies (just 75p, a significant drop from cinema prices) and have a dedicated ice cream counter, surprisingly enough. They also specialise in phone accessories, as you'd expect. As I said, eclectic is the word. Overall, a very handy, if slightly confusing shop.

If I'm every after a drink, snack, or something to read on the train, I always head here instead of the much larger Smiths down on the station concourse. Newsflow's main selling point is the surprisingly expansive selection of magazines that they have on offer, with more than their wall space seems capable of holding. The prices haven't been ramped up with the proximity to the station in mind, either (a sharing bag of sweets retails for less than £2, which is competitive for anywhere, even large supermarkets), and the staff are always friendly. Even better, there's rarely a queue, meaning it can often prove to faster to go upstairs to Newsflow and then come back down to catch your train than it is to go to the nearby Smiths and queue for five minutes.

I popped in to grab a couple of magazines when I was passing through the area. I managed to find a good few magazines that I liked and so headed to the counter and picked up some chocolate on the way. The man who served me was polite and friendly and asked me if I was having a good day, which was nice. I like it when staff can give you a bit of small talk! The prices were not too bad, but I suppose shops have no control over the prices of newspapers and magazines. However, the chocolate bar that I purchased was of a reasonable price! Overall, it is a good newagents!

Fags and Mags No…read morepretentions here, Fags and Mags is that kind if shop. After all this is a matter of simple convenience and i've always said that there are two serious addictions is this life, Cigarettes and magazine subscriptions. Fags & Mags, has a little of what you fancy with a selection of both and although you might not always be excited by a routine visit to such a store, on the one occasion I was surprised to find a publication by a local couple highlighting the legacy of the Chamberlain family and their diplomatic mission to meet Hitler before the advent of World War Two! It intrigued me so much I couldn't leave the shop without paying the £2 asked to enjoy such a curiosity. Otherwise, a trip to Fags & Mags will inculde the usual Tabloid content and Tobacco range of any fine convenience store. For a more wordy selection of literature, try your local Library.

Don't go in there expecting a huge selection of specialist publications or high end literature (although they do have a fairly decent sized range), but do go in if you need a pack of twenty and a copy of your favourite gossip rag or music press. I like Fags and Mags because it cuts to the chase with it's name. Plus it has probably mortified some square American tourists in it's time too.
