I hired RAM Woodworks at the recommendation of someone I respect who had used them before. I had…read moretwo possible design ideas depending on cost. Kevin came out and we did a preliminary drawing of the first option. After getting pricing from the contractor on moving a wall, I decided against that design. I drew out another option and Kevin came back out to finalize measurements with the second design. I am a visual person, so I had the major room changes taped out on the floor with painters tape. Kevin sent me the drawings via email and I approved the drawings. I hired a separate company to do the countertops and they were very willing to work with Kevin on the design collaboration necessary to make my dream a reality. A couple weeks in, I called Kevin to add depth to the island to accommodate a downdraft vent rather than having a hood suspended from the ceiling, and sent him the specifications for the downdraft. He also had specifications for the sink and appliances, although I planned on using the appliances I already had installed in my old kitchen. When the cabinets were installed, I was ecstatic. This was the culmination of 10 years of dreaming and planning. However, for some reason, he hadn't measured the appliances and built the cabinet for a 30" oven rather than the 27" I had. The same was true for the sink cabinet. He added a patch and touch up paint and said this was normal. The additional 3" he added to the island wasn't sufficient for the downdraft vent, and as a result he had to shorten the island drawers to allow it to fit. There was another fiasco with the pantry cabinet, but I was satisfied with his solution for fixing this. He apparently also hadn't measured the dimensions of the kitchen bench I had taped out on the floor, and made it considerably smaller than I had anticipated. I take full responsibility for this, however, as I didn't double-check the dimensions on my floor with what he had on the drawing. When I became upset about the lack of measurements, he was offended by my questioning of his abilities. He said these were my problem, that I was getting upset over nothing and subsequently quit working with me. Although I paid him in full, they never did come back to put the trim on. One of the lazy susan cabinets broke, and when I called Richard he said it was an easy fix and I could do it myself. If you choose to use them, be sure to double check ALL the dimensions on the drawings, and do not question their work or show any distress. They don't deal well with that and have no interest in customer service. Or for goodness sake, don't pay them in full if you aren't completely happy. You will never hear from them again.

Jennie has helped us completely gut a family room and a bathroom over the last few years. I had my ideas for function that she helped me to realize by working them into the space perfectly. I' recently hired her to come over and just talk through some work we were doing on our own - small kids' room update and she saved me money by talking me through a few expensive mistakes I might have made, based on my initial ideas - and she simplified the project, which made my husband happy too!

Recently I found myself in the middle of an unplanned remodel of an older-style duplex unit after a tenant's unexpected marriage and exit. I didn't know where to begin: what materials and design would offer the widest appeal and durability, but still be budget friendly. I discovered Jennie on Facebook, and after reading up on her here at Yelp, decided to give her a try. Am I glad I did! She was punctual, respected my goals, and helped me avoid what would have been costly and unnecessary mistakes. At the same time, she brought potential problem areas to my attention early (such as an odd sized oven and what to do about replacing it) so I wouldn't be caught by surprise later. She referred me to some great source stores for materials I would need, and suggested coordinating colors to achieve the look I was going for in the kitchen and throughout the house. She also had great referrals for contractors of various sorts to implement the work, but I went with my own guys. My unit is starting to look so good I'd be happy to move into it myself! Thanks Jennie, for improving my property and the living experience of my next tenant - and for keeping it all affordable (which adds to *my* living experience!). You're worth your weight in gold.

We purchased a Cristallo quartzite slab from Domus Surfaces in North Highlands for our kitchen…read moreremodel and couldn't be happier with the entire experience. We had already shortlisted a slab and an installer at another store, after an exhaustive months' long selection process -- we only stopped by Domus to check off our due diligence before committing. Are we ever glad we did. From the first conversation, the owner Tamara Petrick gave us a great deal. That kind of straightforward, customer-first approach is rare in the slab business, and it's what won us over from the place we'd already picked. Her installer Sergio was equally impressive -- helpful, communicative throughout the whole process, and accommodated our request for a Saturday installation, which made scheduling so much easier for us. On installation day, the team headed by Edwin arrived right on time and was professional and courteous from start to finish. They worked efficiently and skillfully, carrying in each slab piece and placing it on the countertops with real care and precision. Watching them work, it was clear these are experienced craftsmen who take pride in what they do. Tammy kept in touch before, during, and after the install to make sure everything went perfectly and that we were fully satisfied. That follow-through says a lot about how she runs her business. The finished kitchen looks absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for any slab work -- countertops, islands, anything -- don't commit anywhere else until you've stopped by Domus Surfaces in North Highlands and asked for Tammy. You will not be disappointed by the price or the quality of work. The entire team was a pleasure to work with, and we recommend them without hesitation.
