Along with shopping for an engagement ring I was also hoping to find a jeweler I can come to in the future for other jewelry. Did not find that here. My ring also had to be resized like 3 times. I was never measured but because I could fit the display 6, Lilly ordered a six. Too small. I then went back, still wasn't measured, ring still too small. THEN I go back on the day they said my ring would be ready. I have no email (because the person typed my email in wrong) but I have the receipt that says what day my ring would be ready. I go. The lady says she can't find it. I leave, sit in my car for a little bit, find the receipt and demand that she checks again. She magically finds it. Eye roll. And now, the ring is too big. I'm FINALLY measured. Finally. And they redo the ring again. It fits. Would not recommend or return to Smyth in Timonium for jewelry purchases.

My dad passed away recently. For a hobby, he was a watch collector and a watch repair person. Not knowing anything about watches myself, I asked my dad's estate lawyer what to do with my dad's large collection and he recommended going to The 1916 Company. Before my visit, I texted with service manager Frances Simon to share pictures of my dad's watches and Frances recommended that I bring the collection to the store so that watch expert Paul Winicki could examine them. The goal was to determine whether it was worth getting my dad's watches officially appraised (which is costly). Paul and Frances met with me for nearly *two hours* looking at each watch, explaining their history in great detail, and estimating their value. It's clear that Paul is an extremely knowledgeable watch guru -- I rarely meet a person like Paul who knows so much about one thing and is so enthusiastic about educating others about it. I walked in feeling lost, sad about my dad's passing, and not knowing what to do with his collection -- and also a bit intimidated because the items they sell at The 1916 Company are so luxurious and not anything that I typically buy. But they welcomed me very warmly, met with me for so long, and answered all my questions with patience and an open mind. I found exactly the right people to help me and left knowing exactly what to do with my dad's collection. Paul and I have since emailed a few times about related questions. I'm so grateful for Paul's and Frances's wonderful help -- which they did completely (and unbelievably) for free!
