The markets current offering of men's rings are very boring with very few options for men's diamond rings - ah, to go back to the Retro era and prior when men's rings were plentiful and varied in design and aesthetic. Nelson Coleman Jewelers were an excellent partner throughout the process with Jaci Schleigh collaborating with me on the ring's design. I could not be happier with the final product. I was inspired by early 20th century Russian Silver Age designs that combined art nouveau and medieval Russo-Byzantine designs with a sleek modern aesthetic. Prior to visiting Nelson Coleman, I looked online to compare a few watch repair / jewelry stores before ultimately settling on this one as it seemed to have good reviews with the vast majority of people having a good experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. I came in mid February with a watch that had originally belonged to a family member who passed and wanted to have both its battery changed and size altered smaller so that I could wear it. I was told they would remake the clasp in sterling silver and advised approximately how much this would cost as well as the price of the battery. I was assured I would not be charged prior to agreeing to an exact price. I was told I would be contacted by phone and e-mail within a week to be updated on the status of my request. The weeks after this were incredibly busy for me and I was unable to stop by as this shop is not near me. Finally after a month, I finally had time to come in person. Apparently, they had learned my request for altering the watch was impossible and they did not have the battery in stock so even though a month had passed; I was 1) still never contacted and 2) not even the battery had been changed (which I had given permission to do and charge me for). The second sales associate was mildly apologetic but this entire experience just felt so bad to me I couldn't believe it. She offered to keep the watch for several more days so they could replace the battery but not wanting to have this experience repeat itself or have them lose or damage the watch, I opted to just take it home. For poor communication alone, I cannot recommend this place. read more

However, they took back their word after the ring was ordered and it was time for me to pay. I will never visit this store again. The manager did nothing to help. They will lose my business and all of my friends business. The $250 they didn't give me as a discount will turn into tens of thousands of dollars lost over the years because I will be buying my jewelry elsewhere read more

I got in contact with Mark Coleman, to sell an accumulation of jewelry from my wife's estate. There was initially difficulty reaching him, and I learned that's because he splits his time among 3 different locations that are not close to each other. Once we made an appointment, Mark did a thorough examination of the assortment I'd brought; described the pieces and their condition in detail; actually educated me as to their history and desirability. I had his uninterrupted attention for more than an hour, at the end of which he made an acceptable offer for the lot. Of course the amount was less than I'd hoped for, but I know better than to think that I had some rare treasures lurking in my house. All of Nelson Coleman's staff have been absolutely incredible. Each time I had to go in to the store, I felt like a Queen. Because of Covid, my husband (then fiance) and I decided to just get married ASAP in a small family-only ceremony. I went to Nelson Coleman and told them my vision for the custom bands to fit around my unique engagement ring...I knew it would be a difficult custom job. They told me this kind of custom ring set would take 6-8 weeks. However, I was getting married in one month when I first made the request. Amanda Coleman and Brady were AMAZING to work with. They got my rings ready for me in about 3.5 weeks. Seriously incredible. Then I went back a couple months later to get all my rings soldered together and it was free because of the lifetime insurance that I purchased with the wedding bands whic was for sure worth it. I stopped in to meet with Mark Coleman and discuss some jewelry pieces that I inherited from my grandmother. Mark was very friendly, inviting, and knowledgeable and told me some very cool things about the pieces I had! He was able to give me an idea of their value and that they will have typically 3 different value numbers: insurance value, sale (to him) value, and value once in their case for sale. I did feel the values he was giving were awfully low after comparing, for instance, one of my diamond piece's appraisals to the values he gave for it. The appraisal from another place came in around $5,000 roughly. He gave it a value of under $1,000, even for insurance value! With such a drastic range in price, and not a lot of knowledge on jewelry, I feel I need a third opinion. I did, however, sell a pendant to him. The process is very easy and I received a check right then and there for it. Mark also steam cleaned all the rings I brought in for free. They really sparkle now! I am so thankful for his kind gesture. I tried cleaning a couple of the rings myself and there were still full of crud stuck under the stone. His steam cleaning was quick and extremely effective. I have a few loose stones I picked up while overseas and I am excited to bring them to Mark to discuss some options for setting. This is a nice store in the middle of Towson. And an added bonus being in such an urban area is that they have their own parking lot! read more

I had such high hopes for this place, and after my and my boyfriend's first appointment for designing an engagement ring, I was really pleased. We had a recommendation by a friend to go here, but things went downhill from that first meeting. 1. They told us the ring would be ready in 2 weeks (something we thought was quite quick, but still). It took them a month and a half over their original estimate. 2. They told us we could change the ring to yellow gold, but their first attempt didn't turn out well at all and they tried to make us take it as it was even though we paid for a certain look. 3. My boyfriend was suppose to have his grandfather's ring refitted. He confirmed how it would look, and has the paperwork to say that it should be done - they forgot about it completely. He is leaving for the summer and now I have no idea when we will be getting that ring back. 4. They did nothing to make this unfortunate situation right (aside from acknowledging this review). To their credit, they tried to stay in communication with us once all of these problems popped up, but it didn't particularly matter because nothing got accomplished any sooner or with better results. They really wowed us in our initial appointment; I am so sad to have to write this review. - - - - - - - - - - Both my boyfriend and I recently talked to the staff here, and while I understand that a lot of these occurrences were just unfortunate mistakes, that doesn't mean they didn't occur and mess with our expectations and future plans. I was looking for a good jeweler to make a small repair to my ring and hopefully help me find a good wedding ring to match, a friend recommended this store. I had a horrible experience with the jeweler we bought the ring from so I always get nervous about dealing with jewelers. Jackie helped me and she was AMAZING. She was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. First, she talked to me a little bit about why I like my ring and what I wanted in a wedding band. She showed me bands, explained them to me, and had lots of helpful suggestions based on what I told her I liked. I never for a second got the feeling she was trying to force a sale on me and trying to get me to buy something expensive, I felt like she really listened to what I wanted and helped me figure out how to make that work. She warned me that it could take up to two weeks for the repairs to be done, charged me a very reasonable price, and fixed it and cleaned it within three days. She even helped me look at wedding bands again when I picked it up, even though it was right at closing time. When my husband and I initially got engaged 6 years ago, we went to Smythe jewelers. We worked with someone and ended up needing them to contact a jewelry designer to see if the ring we wanted was available in alternate metals. We were promised a call back and never got one. From the get go the owners seemed interested in getting to know us, not just selling us jewelry. Their small store is personal and amazingly...stocked with an interesting selection that always changes with items that range from inexpensive to lavish. In the six years we have been Nelson Coleman customers, we have moved to Viriginia and still make the drive up to buy jewelry for ourselves and as gifts. One local jeweler in Baltimore seems to corner the market as a source for wedding rings. I can only assume that's because of their advertising budget. And the one time was there, I just felt like a number. The staff at Nelson Coleman is super professional and nice and they did an excellent job repairing a ring that I have had other jewelers botch over the years. Task - Find the best engagement ring possible on a solid budget. First, I'm the type of person that is going to keep looking for the best value until I'm blue in the face. I think I stopped in 20 times to look through stones before I found the one. I will say the staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly very patient. Even the owner sat with me 2-3 times and brought me in his office to show me his costs on different stones. Second, Jake is the MAN! Not to take away from anyone else, because they were nothing but friendly. Once again though, Jake is the man. He gave me his cell and said to call and text him any time. If you're looking for the right stone and you're me that means you're going to bother poor Jake with texts all the time. I even made a few calls around 11pm or later on a weekend. I know that's horrible, but Jake would respond without a problem and would ensure me that we'll find the best ring. He was knowledgeable and very professional. He spent most of his time making sure I was happy with my selection versus pressing me to purchase something he thought was great. He made the experience all about me and my future wife and gave the best customer service I could possibly ask for. So thank you Jake for all that you've done! Third, the hardware! I made out with a ring that was brilliant in every sense of the word. Along the ride a learned more than I ever wanted to know about diamonds and the 4 C's etc. I know it's appealing to look online and make a purchase at one of the many wholesalers, but remember you'll never have the relationship like you would once you find a jeweler like Nelson Coleman. I purchased my engagement ring there a month ago, and bought a ring on the first day I went shopping because the customer service was so great. Chris Coleman, one of the owners, greeted me at the door and told me about their company. Even though there were other clients in the store, he took time to show me around and set me up with Susan, who was immensely helpful in picking out my ring. We looked at quite a few and she helped me find something that was within my budget and absolutely beautiful. It was exactly what I was looking for, and I walked out of the store with the ring in hand! After proposing last week, my now fiancé loves the ring but it was a little too big, so we went back to get the ring re-sized. We dropped it off around 10, and the ring was already done by 1:30! I happily accepted a couple years prior to my engagement my Grandmother's diamond. It is a beautiful diamond and the history to it was something I couldn't turn down despite the fact it was not the shape I had always envisioned would be in my engagement ring. I was recommended to Nelson Coleman and dragged my boyfriend, who was not ready to propose, to the store to just look! We met with Susie and I showed her the diamond I had and explained what I felt like I wanted. She was extremely patient and put together an image of a phenomenal 3 stone ring. She knew we weren't ready yet and knew there was no guarantee she would get our business when we were. Over the next year both my boyfriend and I stayed in touch with Susie as we made other purchases such as a men's watch and some of their fun trendy jewelry. About 8 months after our initial visit she reached out to my now husband saying she had a setting that was exactly what I would want. Still he was not quite ready, but asked her to keep him updated if the setting may sell. After another 3 months he was ready and called Susie. The setting was still there and all he had to say was "it's go time". He got the diamond to her and a couple months later I received the most beautiful and unique ring ever! Of course we purchased our bands from Nelson Coleman and continue to be dedicated clients. I don't think we would have had the same experience or received the same service at any other store. Anytime we had, or still, walk into another jewelry store there is always the feeling of pressure and someone jumping on top of you wanting to make a sale. My Fiance and I have been together 6 years, and we finally decided it was time to take the next step, and get engaged. We went in on a Saturday morning, and was instantly greeted by the very friendly staff, Michelle Silberman helped us that day, and I couldn't have been more impressed with her knowledge with settings and diamonds, (because neither of us knew what to expect) and the one thing that stood out about Michelle, is that she was very patient and cared so much about what I wanted and didn't want, and never once tried to change my mind, (in my opinion the sweetest person) we had a couple concerns because we didn't get to see the final product till after we purchased because it would have to be custom made to fit the diamond, even though I was nervous about that, Michelle assured me and even emailed me with more assurance that my ring would be perfect, and 2 months later, she was right, I loved the finished product. It was perfect and everything and more. I did have to go in to have it sized a tiny bit. I did not want to be without my ring so I emailed her, she said it shouldn't take but a day. I went in around when they opened and it was empty, and didn't wait longer than 15 mins and she had my ring sized to perfection, and I even emailed her a week later to thank her AGAIN, because it felt like I had a new ring, and I fell in love with it even more than when I first got it. When my boyfriend asked me to go ring shopping, I already knew that Nelson Coleman Jewelers (NCJ) was the only place in the Baltimore area to sell jewelry by the designer of my favorite ring. We went to NCJ and received so much more than a ring. Although they are busy, unpon entering every person greeted us and assured someone would be with us shortly. They offered coffes/tea and cookies while we waited. Eventually MICHELLE helped us. I worked in retail while in graduate school and I remember how far appreciateive people were of great customer service. Compaies wanting to improve customer service could surely take notes from Michelle; she was amazing. We had been to other jewelry stores and they usually started by telling us about the signature diamond or the specials hey had. In contrast, Michelle started by asking us how we met and what we liked. She told us how important it was to really get to know someone before talking about the jewelry. We talked for a bit and eventually I tried on a few rings. We left thinking that there three rings I really liked. At no point did we talk about cost... now some may think this is a negative, but for me, it was idea. She didn't force us to put a price tag on what we liked. Instead, she learned what we liked and later worked with my fiance to create an absolutely perfect ring for me. She said they didn't have it in the store and they weren't sure that they could get one in time for my targeted proposal date, so she offered to do a custom design ring instead. I agreed to go this route with Nelson Coleman because, though I know very little about jewelry and was unsure what to expect, I felt that I was in good hands with Michelle. Before we got started, she walked me through what the process would look like, how long it would take, what the various costs would be along the way, and what I could expect for a finished product. Each time I raised a question during the design and production process, Michelle was always very prompt in thorough in responding, again making me feel that I was in good hands.
