This store takes thrifting to a whole new level. For one the store is HUGE. Not only is the space super large but there are things layered and packed in every corner. If you like thrifting I would imagine you would enjoy this place. Also a great place if you need items for crafts or art. Lots of things likes sinks, ovens, doors and the like if your doing a diy fix up. Definitely a cool place to check out. Cons could be the sheer amount of stuff that's in the store. It can get a bit closterphobic. Also not everything is priced and the stuff that was priced seemed inconsistent. Sometimes a great buy and other times expensive given the condition of the item. You will enjoy Greenovation if you like thrifting, antiques, or digging for treasure. This place helped me get through a year with hardly any yard sales (which I go to all summer long during normal years). There is literally something for everyone. Tons of furniture, kitchen items, holiday decor, records, craft supplies, and more. Their items are a mix of donations, and items "saved from the landfill", which I assume means estate sale leftovers and the like. Many items are not priced. The times I've shopped there, I've brought a small pile of stuff up to the register and have had a "what do you want to pay" conversation with the cashier. I don't love this model as I am awkward and bad at negotiating, but if you buy stuff from priced shelves or bins you won't need to do that. Some things for sale are vendor items that are artwork or home decor (vendors set those prices, and they are marked). Overall, the prices seem higher than the average thrift store, but it depends on what you're buying. This is a great place to go when you have enough time to look through the many sections (and a lot of junk). It's a unique place that is worth a stop. read more

Love, love, love this place. I'm a big thrifter and let me tell you this place has treasures. I appreciate that there are areas for vendors as well as stuff from Greenovation, as well as clearance areas and free items up front. You think it, you can probably find it. There are some really great deals here, and really good quality finds if you're willing to take some time and look. Definitely recommend Greenovation for any big thrifter and anyone looking to spice up their new apartment or house. Greenovation is especially great for Christmas decorations and picture frames. I found quite a few frames that were like new, as well as some gorgeous dishware in their original boxes. Will definitely be coming back. read more

WOW! What a great place! Friendly, helpful staff who are volunteers. You can find treasures from $1-$500. Lots of knickknacks, kitchen items, lamps, couches, recliners, chandeliers, records, electronics, luggage, clothes, frames and pictures, jewelry, toilets, sinks, desks,toys and on and on. Not everything is priced because of the sheer amount of things and it's volunteer run. As one volunteer put it, they try to come up with a price we can both live with. Plan on spending at least an hour your 1st time. Lots of nooks to explore. read more

I was hoping to thrift some treasures and bargains, but found everything to be way overpriced. Especially for the location and chaotic set up. If the concept is to get people to buy used over new, then the prices should be low and the convenience high. If you are looking for antiques, you are better off going to an organized antique store or eBay. If you need to buy used because you can't afford to buy new, don't waste your time. I won't be returning because I expect the same inventory will sit for a long time, and there isn't room for much more. It doesn't seem right to seek help from volunteers when the business model doesn't actually support the community or cause. read more

For those about to thrift, we salute you. I'm a die-hard junker (it's in my blood) and so it's perplexing (to me) why I waited so long to check this gem of a store out. How best to describe Greenovation? Well, it ain't Viet Vets Thrift Village, that's for sure! To best describe it, I'd have to say it is a cross between a thrift shop, arts & crafts store & flea market (with individual vendors filling up some slots) all coalesced under an over-arching mission to re-use & recycle. Sound interesting? It is... and, if you're looking for Utter Clutter, it's also housed under the Greenovation roof. I urge everyone who wants to find incredible bargains and re-use products to avoid generating solid waste to visit Rochester Greenovation. This place is unbelievably great and highly worthy of public support. The store is amazingly interesting, though no one should expect a spare Pottery Barn or Neiman Marcus retail environment. The large space is filled with gazillions of fairly nicely organized wares, though the sheer volume of donated goods obviously poses an on-going challenge to keep stuff from piling up. Greenovation offers a massive array of housewares, tools, toys, sporting goods, plumbing fixtures, furniture, books, building materials, jewelry, art and decorative items. You name it and it is probably there. Somewhere. I visited the former store as well as its new location, which is far easier to navigate. I always find incredibly great stuff at shockingly low prices. The other day, I bought an uber-cool, vintage Tensor lamp that was practically brand-new. I also purchased a highly unusual Japanese paper lamp, a Canadian snow dome, a mid-century Japanese wooden fondue fork and a cute little egg timer. My friend bought a beautiful unused stainless steel skillet and more than a dozen hand-painted English bone-china dessert and dinner plates. The total cost of these stunning finds was around two large cheese pizzas and an order of wings. What a deal. Wow. As someone who runs a considerable business enterprise, I appreciate that keeping afloat a giant operation like Greenovation must be really hard, so I commend the staff and everyone involved with this massive effort. Great job. Way to go. Keep slugging. My only regret about Greenovation is that it is not open on Sunday or I would visit even more frequently to share in the important public service that they provide to the citizens of Rochester. So, Rochester Greenovation. I want to give it higher than a 3-star rating, but there's something keeping me from doing so. While it is a cool looking place with eclectic stuff (there's something literally for everyone!), I can't understand why it's called a thrift store. Most of the stuff you'll find here are things that have been repurposed/upcycled or are vintage furniture items being sold by individual vendors and they are, quite honestly, pretty pricey. If I had a home decor budget or was looking for something cool for my home, I'd buy something here in a heartbeat. I love it because I'm an artist and I appreciate the really awesome stuff they have. However, a thrift store is where you go to find secondhand things at low prices and this is not that. Moral of the story: definitely check this place out, but don't expect to find much for cheap. And easy parking for the win--Greenovation has a huge lot, so no need for street parking. read more

I absolutely love thrift stores, antique shops and everything in between. I visited this shop earlier this week and will probably make another trip over when I have lots of time to spare. There was a Santa by the door spraying hands with hand sanitizer which was amazing. It would take hours to walk around this whole place and fully absorb all of the items available. It's kind of like shopping a huge gigantic yard sale. I'm not sure if you can go in here looking for one specific thing and find it but you can certainly find a unique item you didn't even know you wanted. Definitely don't try to make your first visit when you're in a time crunch, but this is worth the time to walk around and explore. read more

So cool, interesting items. A mess of craziness, but it's like your grandma's attic... a mix of random things, and then you find a gem! This is great for anyone who is a DIY-er at heart. You can find some really quality stuff, that has a good frame, but just needs a little tender love to bring it to greatness. Among the great things I've found here, most of it has fallen in the vendor section including: - A pair of $10 chrome chairs with a funky vinyl floral seat back (the vinyl was in near perfect condition, but the chrome was all rusted out). I knew I could spend a weekday day fixing that up. Purchased them, cleaned 'em up, and they're now my porch chairs. - Bedside lamp - Vintage items - furniture that's been fixed up (in the vendor section) - Cool topography maps - my boyfriend found a few of his hometown for a few bucks - had them framed and now they're the centerpiece artwork in his living room. - Vintage Pyrex!!! I went ham over the stuff in this section. Found many a great dish, and they're such great quality. Decor pieces and functional. If you have a free afternoon and are looking for something new and different to add to your space, you might just find a gem here. read more

If you love junking, thrifting, etc. you definitely need to check this place out. And I can definitely get with their mission to reuse and recycle. I think the best thing about this place is that they've got a huge variety of stuff - and there are some areas for individuals to sell, like a flea market. They've also got an area for building materials that I wish had a bit more variety to it. With the mix from their stuff and vendors' stuff, it's a good mix of high and low with things you could fix up or repurpose or some nice stuff you can just buy and use right away. I went in on a mission wanted a few coupe glasses I got them for $2.00 each. Ok it's like this things are to be had but you have to look. I found a ton of vintage Pyrex and other things. The prices are very good, but like anything else they might have something for you or not. You need to look, they have cloths, China and Crystal, jewelry, furniture and all sorts of stuff. It's a brick a brac and they had a "fill a box for $5.00" area so... It's large and cavernous and from what I can ascertain I think the people who work there are volunteers I could be wrong but they had a tip jar at the check out. Also I believe it's cash only. I found out about this place by just casually driving around and seeing their sign. Curious, I decided to park and go inside to take a peak. This place is a WONDERLAND if you like fun random, eclectic whatsits like me. Are you inspired by things that once may have been potential castaways headed for a sad afterlife in a landfill? If so, then you could easily spend a couple hours digging deep in the glory of stuff and things. There are sooo many goodies! For example, I was able to find a barely worn pair of foldable Gap flats for $3, a gigantic pillar candle for $2 something, some random crystals, and a jar of synchronous fortune cookie fortunes in a jar. I don't remember the full total, but it was definitely under $20. They even have cool furniture pieces, local art, and specialty vintage finds. I can't wait until my wallet lets me go back! Oh! And the staff members are super friendly, helpful, and they contribute a great overall positive vibe to the place. :) read more

Great place for finding wonderful & unexpected treasures! The store itself changes from week to week as new items come in, bought items leave for their new homes, and older items get makeovers. With all the change it's almost as if it has an organic life of its own :) The staff is also really nice and helpful, but most of all the organization's purpose is worthy of consideration and support. I've been here 4 or 5 times and I bought something only once. It's a huge place with an area for kitchen stuff, an area for books, an area for miscellaneous things, and a variety of small booths or areas managed by different vendors. In these areas, you can find furniture, jewelry, bric-a-brac, vintage clothes, and other stuff. The place looks sort of like a big, poorly organized thrift store. Prices are much, much higher than thrift stores, though. Furniture is almost always overpriced for the quality you get. There are some decent deals on glassware and kitchen things, but you have to sort through a lot of junk (and sometimes a few spider webs) to find what you want. read more

Pretty cool place with a lot of stuff to look at. It's a real mix of stuff that you could find here; there is a lot of furniture, some upcycled jewelry, used books and games, and then a lot of junk. The furniture is the best part of this place but don't think because this is a thrift-type store that you are going to get a bargain. Who ever priced everything knows they have some cool stuff-- i.e. there is a retro armchair I really liked for about $165, there were several 60s era credenzas for a few hundred dollars. I have been in other thrift stores where these prices are normal [bigger cities], I guess I just was surprised to see that in Rochester. For the right person who has a chunk of change and a certain style, this place is a goldmine. And I don't mean to deter someone if you are looking for something cheap to fill up their new home or apartment-- because they have cheap stuff, too. The junk factor: Yeah, there is a whole room of pretty much trash. It's used building supplies, but not desirable things like railroad ties, or materials to use re-use as flooring. They say one man's junk is another man's treasure, but I would be hard pressed to believe anything in that whole room would be anyone's treasure. Awesome spot, so glad I found it. I just moved to the area without any furniture and bought a leather couch here for $45. Super comfy and in great condition! Also an employee drove the couch to my apartment and helped me move it in for a small fee. I will definitely go back for more thrifty ideas!! read more

mostly useless items but there are some real gems here as well! interesting and creative atmosphere and an alright location. lots of old technology items. just about anything old and not worth too much ends up here. if you have nothing to do on a rainy day, you might as well stop in here and look around. pricing is alright, and it's a place you can donate stuff to as well. some things are pretty dusty so keep that in mind if you are allergic to dust. Kind of expensive for a lot of items. hopefully they will come up with a mark-down system like regular thrift stores. It doesn't really seem like a thrift store, it's more like a flea market/ glorified garage sale that is always on-going. read more
