My most prized possession from Abode
    Christine E.

I can't say enough about Abode. It is filled with mostly mid-century furniture and eclectic artisan pieces that you hope to find at a garage sales. The prices are very affordable and they always have new stuff. I moved into my first apartment in the South Wedge and am so grateful that they are right around the corner. I have them to thank for an amazing little bar cart, a unique tray with sea animals, and my most prized item is a beautiful gold mirror that my boyfriend surprised me with. The shop has an amazing presence on social media, I highly recommend following them on Instagram. I really enjoy their enthusiasm for the Rochester life. It is very refreshing to find a store with so much style and accessibility.

Daily, I stalk their Instagram to see what new stock they get in and will swing by if anything suits my fancy.

Home décor, gifts, skin care, kids clothes, coffee table books, and accessories all sit together in a way that should feel chaotic but instead feels curated and intentional, almost like someone designed each vignette as its own small scene. I found myself slowing down and actually looking at things instead of speed shopping, which says a lot about how the space is laid out. If you've been to Feste in SoHo (NYC), The Glass Box in Chapel Hill, Parkleigh in Rochester, or Peppercorn in Boulder, you know the vibe I'm describing. It's that specific kind of shop that blends gifting, beauty, and home goods into something that feels more like a lifestyle than a store category. I left with a stack of GEOMETRY kitchen tea towels, Agent Nateur toothpaste, a square, moth-patterned mango wood tray, and a pair of Izipizi reading glasses. None of those were on my list when I walked in, which feels like the whole point of a shop like this. There's a wide range of price points too, from small everyday gifts to bigger investment pieces, and normally you'd need to hit 15 different stores to pull together a haul like mine. You can even order directly from their website: https://breatheathome.com Pittsford's Main Street is full of charming storefronts, but this one stands out for how thoughtfully it's put together. The staff struck a nice balance of being warm without hovering, which made browsing easy and unhurried. There's street parking right out front, plus a lot behind the shop if Main Street is full. There are also several ADA parking spots in back.

So I follow Breathe and Breathe at Home on Instagram. This is part of the Breathe Yoga family. I…read moresaw some things on the page and on an instagram story and wanted to check out the place and maybe pick something up. This is a free standing store when you walk in it's soft colors you smell some fabulous candle burning (it was Grapefruit Pine which I did purchase) lots of totems and crystals, Buddha's, perfumes, oils, books, Sage sticks by Catherine Rising and home and furniture items and a bit more. It's not a large store but well thought out with just enough things. They do have some interesting gifts to give to that hard to please person as things are different and unique. I'm sure if you are not feeling it you can get a gift card. Staff is friendly and helpful. They greet you warmly but a plus they are not all over you. Now this place is not Inexpensive so understand that. The candle I bought was $30 for a better candle it's not bad but the larger one in a mercury glass type of vessel is $70. Furniture is priced at certain points and etc. Don't let the prices detour you to come in a take a look around. I will come back for sure. Do yourself a favor and read the receipt as you have a very small time frame to return.. I believe it's 7 days. So if you have buyers remorse make sure it's in perfect condition and not used for a refund. I am sure it's because they have other locations that have retail attached to the Yoga Studios and wherever you bought the item it needs to go back to that store. So... this store is a few doors down from Breathe Yoga. It's on Main Street in Pittsford. Street parking and they also have a lot in the back I believe but I was able to easily park on Main Street. If your in the area go give it a visit it's a lovely store.

Avoid Guardsman Furniture Protection Plans offered at Ethan Allen - A Frustrating and Disappointing…read moreExperience. I purchased a leather Melrose couch from Ethan Allen in Rochester, NY, for around $3,300, and added the $299 Guardsman Premier Gold Complete Service Plan, thinking it would provide peace of mind. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had. After submitting a warranty claim, I waited six months without a response. When Guardsman finally acted, they sent a technician from New Jersey (to upstate New York!) who looked at the couch but said she didn't have enough time to complete the repair. And then? Nothing. No follow-up. No resolution. Just silence. Years later, the owner of the Ethan Allen store accused me of being a "problem customer" and casually mentioned that Guardsman had denied the claim. That's hard to believe, considering they sent someone out to fix it, which wouldn't have happened if the claim had actually been denied upfront. I contacted Ethan Allen's corporate office and received a polite but ineffective response--no real accountability from either company. Bottom line: Guardsman appears to offer a comprehensive coverage plan, but in practice, they seem to look for any excuse or loophole to avoid fulfilling it. The customer service is slow, unresponsive, and ultimately unhelpful. The owner of the local Ethan Allen franchise finally replaced the cushion, but unfortunately, the dye lot was significantly different from the other cushions, rendering the couch unusable. If you're shopping at Ethan Allen--or anywhere else that offers Guardsman protection--I strongly recommend you think twice before spending extra on their coverage. It's not worth the hassle.
