When we lived in Rochester this was our go to place for wedding / birthday / anniversary gifts. They had a good selection of unique artist made gifts with a lot of beautiful wood and glass items. They also had a fair amount of jewelry. On our recent visit it appears that their inventory is more heavily skewed toward jewelry. Yes they still have plenty of other options but not like the past from what we observed which limits it's appeal for us. Still is nice to see this eclectic gift shop still in business all of these years. read more

I went out looking to buy a necklace for myself. A woman at the MAG recommended Craft Company No. 6 to me so I go in there with only the vaguest idea of what I'm looking for, but the two friendly staff members in Craft Company No. 6 instantly took it upon themselves to help me whittle down my vision and show me cases of local artists that might appeal to me. They gently guided me on a curated tour of pieces all while offering informative answers to my barrage of questions about necklace types, pendants, and different materials for chains and cords. It wasn't long until I had decided on a beautiful piece that matched my once misty vision for myself, but the chain was too short. Fast forward to one of the staff members going in the backroom to talk to the artist (who also happened to be the owner) and the woman comes out and proceeds to swap the chain with another piece that had a longer one, and then do open surgery on the chain on the counter, cutting it to my exact requested length of 19 inches. I highly recommend everything about this place. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay and have coffee with all three of the staff that had helped me on my necklace quest. Seriously, this place is a gem and there's so much amazing stuff in there I'll definitely be back. I am in full prep mode for Yelp Shops Local and, embarrassingly, made my first ever stop into this store. WHAT?! I have been missing out for so many years! What a hidden-in-plain-sight hidden gem. I've probably run and walked past this shop dozens of times. This store is seemingly limitless with rooms on rooms and themes on themes. There's so much to explore and it is SO relaxing. I saw MANY cute new gift ideas for friends and family. From a beautiful baking dish specifically for brie cheese at $30 to wonderful jewelry boxes with meaningful quotes, I know where I am headed next time I have a "I really don't know what to get that person" conundrum. The staff member helping me out was amazing and I can't wait to get back for more local gifts by (primarily) local artisans. read more

If you're someone who likes the handmade, the artisan, and craftmanship, then you have to come to this place. Everything is definitely idiosyncratic and unique, high quality, and artsy for sure. I'm a ceramics junkie and love the second floor's ceramics and pottery section. IF you're into jewelry, I think he stuff that really catches my eye is the intricacy of the pieces. Some pieces are a little more commonplace like blown glass pendants or beaded jewelry. For the most part, you'll find unique high end looking stuff, and not the sewing machine sports laden ribbons and frills that you may see in festivals. I feel it caters to one group of tastes/audience. Everything here seems more "fine" and "zen" like. Everything has that American mountain/cabin fine art feel, so don't expect to see representations from seaside, urban settings, southeastern, Floridian, Navajo/Native American You won't find folk/rustic, charmingly uneven, or quirky. I'll comment on each floor and what there is to offer. What they have: Jewelry, birdhouses, garden pieces, ceramics, pottery, scarves/knitting/kitchen ware, bar soaps, candles, wind chimes What they could offer more of: Children's section was a little too collector-y for me, could use more fabrics/cloths rather than just knits, wood work is mostly kitchen ware/boards so could expand more on carvings and wood work, yarn work, clay work (figures). First floor is divided into 3 spaces. The first part feels a bit commercial like with the jewelry placed in rack like "department" store/optic glasses like format. I thought this part was a little too department store-y. What caught my eye was the model clay leaves/flora/pearl jewelry pieces in the entrance. The intricacy of the leaves and petals was definitely worth the 80$ to me. Some pieces throughout the store btw will be 20-50% off depending on season. This department store-y part even have people behind the counters to help you out. The second part is called the cabin and it links the first part to the back of the store that sells kitchen ware. This middle part features "cabin-y" stuff that has birdhouses, woodchimes, and decor that remind you of being in a wood log cabin The third part is the kitchen ware that sells nice artisan napkin rings, cutting boards, seasoning holdings, carved plates etc. The second floor felt more like a real arts and crafts artisan shop to me. The part facing the street had more jewelry behind wood and glass cabinets. Again, you have stuff that fits anyone's boat, just not the avant garde- popular stuff you see in Forever 21 or in normal department stores. Expect prices to range from 20-800$ depending on what the artist used. This was nice- a good place to find a good jewelry piece for someone as a gift- the artists range from oregon to Georgia to local artists in Canandaiga. The middle section had ceramics and pottery of which i love the blue and earthy tone glazes. Some have deeper and more dramatic glazes, and others stick to gentle jade hues. You'll find full sets, mugs, cups, and small pieces. The back room has hand painted scarves, a children's room with toys and other random pieces. Overall, worth going to get a taste of the style of Park Ave Rochester. It caters to a specific artistic audience and is god for those who like mountain cabin fine art. read more

A wonderful store we visit about four times a year, esp during the holidays. To chime in on a couple other reviews: We have no issues with the staff not greeting us or asking us if we need help. If we need assistance, we can ask for it. It's a quiet experience there and we personally do not want/need salespeople paying attention to us just because we're there. We prefer the more relaxed atmosphere. That said, I believe it is mostly a consignment store, so that needs to be kept in mind when you make purchases. We've never had any problems with the items we've bought and really appreciate the uniqueness of what's offered. Lastly...At the time of this writing the covid cult is calming down. We hope the store will respect the customers who do not want to wear masks and will honor that when we return for our upcoming summer visit. We won't do business with establishments that are promoting the false science and political virtue signaling, which is all the masks are, any longer. As long as that is understood, they'll have our business. read more

Eclectic, artsy, and unique are the words that come to mind when I visit Craft Company No. 6. From its multicolored exterior to the shop space, which was an old firehouse, the space draws one in, even if you aren't looking for a specific gift. There's a broad variety of items and price ranges for all budgets, which is great since all of the wares are by local artists. The first floor contains different lines of jewelry, wood wares, and miscellaneous home and garden decorations and the second floor has more jewelry, cooking materials, and gourmet foods. I found a pearl ring with asymmetrical arrangement of the pearls by a South Carolina artist as an early birthday gift for myself. I love that its a one of a kind and that it was made in the US. Thanks to Craft Company, I've gone online to do further research on the artist and his other works. The staff are friendly and very helpful - they are willing to look up information if you ask nicely. Some of the food products are out by their displays for sampling - a good way to determine if you want to buy something and enjoy the whole thing. I used to love shopping at Craft Company #6 for gifts and for something special for myself. Went in today Because some earrings that they sold me broke. They refused to assist me with either a store credit or replacement. They only gave me the artist information not including the phone number. They really just did not want to hear anything from me about what happened. And it was no fault of my own it seemed to be a defect in the earrings. They no longer carry the artist in store but that really is no concern of mine. I bought them in good faith from Craft Company #6. Luckily I was able to find the artist on the Internet and contacted her directly. Needless to say craft company number six has lost my business I will not be returning. read more

This place is incredibly interesting. First of all, it is in an old fire house which is very cool. Wandering around inside you can see some of the history inside the building which is very cool. I am always interested in looking around a gift shop because there is always the most random things available. I can spend hours just looking at everything and I have been in CC6 at least 20 times while living in Rochester. I always recommend it to people who are looking for something unique or different as a gift. The prices are high compared to going to Wal-Mart, but this isn't Wal-Mart. Around the different holidays there is usually a lot of different things related to that holiday. I almost always take a trip here around Christmas as the decorations and other things in the store are always amazing. This place is definitely worth a trip. read more

What an adorable shop! I was browsing around, looking for a gift for a friend. Hadn't had much luck at Parkleigh or the MAG Store, so gave this place a shot. There were so many unique and beautiful items! Some items that got me staring -- the astronomy-themed paperweights, the leaf-pressing coasters, the standing wine racks. I bought a pottery piece (an asparagus dish) for my friend. They wrapped it up in tissue paper and boxed it up beautifully for me. In my view: a four star shop around the holiday season, three stars the rest of the year. A four star overall rating demonstrates my eternal gratitude to them for saving me one winter - the invitation to the bridal shower instructed me to bring a 'unique Christmas tree ornament' as a gift. After visiting shop after shop without seeing anything I could bring myself to buy, I quickly found an ideal ornament at Craft Co. #6. (I also found two backups.) The bride loved it, and I enjoyed presenting it to her. They get three stars the rest of the year, because they're a tease. When I look for gifts, I try to find useful items that are also a bit luxurious - something a bit nicer than one would buy for personal use, but definitely an everyday-practical item. Craft Co. #6 seems to promise a store stocked full of these kinds of things - most of their stock could be grouped under the broad heading of 'housewares'. Except I can't conceive of the vast majority of these housewares being useful for anything other than staging a house for a photo shoot. To me, they are decorative, impractical, and not well suited to their stated purposes. They are art pieces inspired by real life implements - I have little use for such things. I'm also disappointed by their selection of gourmet food items - they weren't all that exotic and nothing was locally produced. I'd have bought some of these if they had been products of upstate NY, because then they would have made meaningful gifts. Giving someone a taste of where I live is something I'd enjoy sharing. I see no point in giving a gourmet food item produced in some random uninteresting location and sold by a local boutique, *especially* when the food isn't much different than what's generally available in the mainstream. I would come here to shop for special-occasion jewelry. The variety and quality seem decent, and the pieces appear interesting. read more

Every time I have ever entered Craft Company No. 6, there are always 4-5 people who work there in the main area, only two of which look like they are doing anything, and way too many people waiting for help. Other than that, the store has a wide variety of handcrafted and specialty items, so it's a great place to shop for gifts! read more

Fun, eclectic, funky and pretty fairly priced. I try to visit once or twice a year when I'm in town. I wouldn't go here for useful items, this is the place to get that unique gift that you won't find at the mall. I love going there for the glass balls. I love this place and always try to make it a point to stop here when I am in town. Craft compnay is chock full of artisan goods at all price points with a focus on jewelry and pottery. During my thirteen years in Rochester, I patronized Craft Company on a regular basis. The interior is really interesting, since it was formerly a firehouse (LONG ago). It's a really fun place to wander around. Craft Company has long been rated one of the top ten "galleries" of American crafts (meaning, high-end). It's true that much of what they sell is pricey (and sometimes very much so), but their selection is terrific and I've bought many beautiful things there. The sales staff has always been very pleasant, too. Another thing I like is that the owners have long been strong supporters of Lollypop Farm, and they also help support various other non-profits & area events. read more

This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to Rochester. The stuff they have here is all hand made and very unique! I've gotten so many birthday presents here for my friends and they all love it. But because they are hand made, they get a little bit pricey. I come here mainly for the gorgeous jewelry pieces, they also have some very creative pieces for wine lovers! The friendship tea here is also really good! Very nice, artistic gift store. There's free parking which is nice. They have very unique and interesting items here and pleasant staff that know about the items for sale. The prices are maybe a bit on the high side but most things for sale are individual works of art so it makes sense. This is a great gift store-- really unique. Like the name implies, a lot of "crafts" are sold here. Not you run-of-the-mill crafts though, no old fence board signs, no sock monkeys or anything-- just really beautiful stuff like hand blown glass, hand made jewerly from many local artists, lawn stakes (that you would acutally want in your yard), pottery, etc. The store is great to wander around. During the holidays especially. You go in through the side and see all the outdoor ornaments, go in through the back, and then walk to the front of the store. From there you can go upstairs where they have a lof of fine jewelry and some home items. This place is remodeled fire house. Prices here are real high though. Sometimes I can't really justify the prices they want for things, particularly the handmade jewelry, but hey if you have the money it's a great chance to get something one of the kind from a local artisan. read more

I LOVE this gallery. Just walking through it is a treat. With its fun house feel and curves and colors the outside world seems to vanish as it envelopes you. Edgy glass work, very cool potters and probably some of the most phenomenal jewelry in all of Rochester. Unlike the mass produced junk they peddle at the malls this place dishes up one of a kind super sustainable wares. I love this store. Every time I come to Rochester this is a must stop for me. It has a unique and eclectic collection of pottery, dish and kitchenware, jewelry, furniture, and artisan goods that are one of a kind. They support local artists and craftsmen which is certainly more than can be said about mall stores or Pier 1. The prices are reasonable too. I'm becoming an insatiable fan of Kent Follette and Bill Campbell flambeaux pottery and I have Craft Company No. 6 to thank for that! I pick up a piece or two or three each time I come and have them shipped to my home in California. It always arrives in a timely manner and in perfect condition. These pieces would easily cost 2-3 times what I paid if I had bought them in San Francisco! Woot woot! The staff is really attentive and friendly. There's a cute dog roaming around too. Come here. So disappointed. Not about the awesome artisan works they sell but in the way I was treated by the staff. I moved here 14 years ago and as an artist myself was delighted to find Craft Company No. 6. I enjoyed randomly stopping by for a special gift or taking out of town visitors and family to shop. After several years of this my husband and I stopped in one day. We weren't there 5 minutes when we noticed we were being followed and observed intently by the staff. We both felt extremely uncomfortable. We both looked at each other to see if something was out of sorts with our appearance or clothing. I was so uncomfortable I wondered if I should ask what was going on...? I chose not to and instead made my purchase and left. Perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity... I'll never know. What I do know is they lost a patron that had loved the place and always recommended it to friends and family. That recommendation has been replaced by telling them the experience I had the last day I was ever in Craft Company No. 6. read more
