Also you hear a lot ambulances. In general, my neighbors were quiet and large parties seemed rare (usually around the end of the semester it could get a bit noisy, but nothing horrible). It's a great location for getting to campus/hospital and with the opening of college town, there is a bit more to do in the area as well. I never had any issues with management or the front desk staff, but one problem was it felt like they came into my apartment all the time -- like at least once a month. To check sprinklers, or the fire alarm, or whatever. If a neighbor needed their bath tub unclogged, they also had to come into my apartment. There was rarely ever any warning given. I usually used the laundry late in the evenings and rarely were there issues with availability (maybe once or twice over 4 years). The hands-down biggest issue was the fire alarm would go off probably every week. Sometimes it went off twice in a day. This is all from residents cooking I believe. The worst thing was, it became so common, that people I think rarely ever left their apartments for these alarms. If there ever truly is a fire, I really worry for the residents. It seemed to be gradually getting better as people got used to the system, but at the start of the school year when more new people move in, the fire alarm starts to go off more frequently again. Since it is associated with the university, it is easy to leave when once you've graduated (no worrying about 12-month leases) and I got my full deposit back.

We were told parking spots were limited and that the previous residents have the priority to take whatever parking spots existed first. Even though everyone is paying the same rent. The office staff are beyond rude. Every time I have had a request, one of the two ladies working at the office rolls their eyes at me, so much so that I am simply avoiding them. The whole place makes me feel like I am living here for free or as a charity and This is the best I can get! But believe me, just look around and Rest assured you can find much better apartments for the same or lower price. There is no air conditioning included and it gets super hot in the summer, on another note, if you go and buy an air conditioning unit, you have to pay some 150$ extra on top of your rent (reasons not clear). The hallways smell terrible and For that one, maybe the residents are to blame. But then again, there is no window or vent that can be opened and the odor just stays inside the whole time. The walls are paper thin and I can hear our neighbor plug in his electrical appliances or cough. All in all, just do yourself a favor and stay away. Then in August they told my roommate that the heater had been replaced and they just needed to do minor maintenance fixes before they could open again. Then it started turning green. At first it was slight, could've been explained away as the lighting being off, but my apartment overlooks the pool and it got greener and greener each day until it became what you see in the photo attached. This is actually so disgusting, I don't understand why they stopped cleaning it. The only explanation I can think of is that they have no intention of opening the pool and wanted to stop wasting money on the chemicals to clean it. At this point just drain and cover it. The lack of transparency is very frustrating, both from the management and the pool water. It's very annoying that they kept stringing residents along for the entire summer just for it to end up like this.

Dormitories closed and reputable college-affiliated residential facilities shutdown and offered relief to their residents who went home. Bravo to all who honored what is clearly the right thing to do. What is unfortunate is those companies who inappropriately tie their name to a university but then claim no connection to them when the school closes. The Lodge at RIT is one of those companies. Do not do business with this company, and to be clear they do business under a number of different names each affiliated with a different college. You take a great risk in doing so. If another situation such as a pandemic or a disaster were to occur that shuts down the university you are still stuck with the lease. Learn from our mistake. If you do business with this company make sure you negotiate a way out of the lease if the school closes. The parents and students occupying The Lodge make up the majority of the residences - you have collective power. All of the kids staying at honorable residences on and off campus have relief during this crisis. Not those staying here. So sorry for the kids taking out loans to go to college and then are stuck in a lease with a company who inappropriately ties their name to a school and then claims no association. Shame on this company.

It is especially difficult as a student, and even more so while living at the lodge. I will give them the credit they deserve for quick action with the residents in mind. I will also admit to enjoying the area and liking their furnishings... when the world was not burning. However, for those students locked out of RIT, and locked out of all public areas provided by the lodge, money was just going down the drain in facilities not being used. I had called and asked about getting some money back but they required proof I needed my money back. In my personal belief, this is disgusting and the lowest a human can go. Blinded by a desire for money over that of human life, the lodge refused to return any "stolen" money on promises they could not maintain. (Un)Luckily, I had saved for years to go to college in Rochester so I am not broken by this, but I do not qualify to get any money back. I respectfully ask any business or individuals looking to do business with this organization do their business elsewhere. If only until the lodge starts making their capitalism more human-centered. Instead, publicly explain your decision, or better yet, in this time of chaos, be a beacon of hope and help your residents without worrying about your money.
