Dormitories closed and reputable college-affiliated residential facilities shutdown and offered relief to their residents who went home. Bravo to all who honored what is clearly the right thing to do. What is unfortunate is those companies who inappropriately tie their name to a university but then claim no connection to them when the school closes. The Lodge at RIT is one of those companies. Do not do business with this company, and to be clear they do business under a number of different names each affiliated with a different college. You take a great risk in doing so. If another situation such as a pandemic or a disaster were to occur that shuts down the university you are still stuck with the lease. Learn from our mistake. If you do business with this company make sure you negotiate a way out of the lease if the school closes. The parents and students occupying The Lodge make up the majority of the residences - you have collective power. All of the kids staying at honorable residences on and off campus have relief during this crisis. Not those staying here. So sorry for the kids taking out loans to go to college and then are stuck in a lease with a company who inappropriately ties their name to a school and then claims no association. It is especially difficult as a student, and even more so while living at the lodge. I will give them the credit they deserve for quick action with the residents in mind. I will also admit to enjoying the area and liking their furnishings... when the world was not burning. However, for those students locked out of RIT, and locked out of all public areas provided by the lodge, money was just going down the drain in facilities not being used. I had called and asked about getting some money back but they required proof I needed my money back. In my personal belief, this is disgusting and the lowest a human can go. Blinded by a desire for money over that of human life, the lodge refused to return any "stolen" money on promises they could not maintain. (Un)Luckily, I had saved for years to go to college in Rochester so I am not broken by this, but I do not qualify to get any money back. I respectfully ask any business or individuals looking to do business with this organization do their business elsewhere. If only until the lodge starts making their capitalism more human-centered. You'll be met with an AI chat bot, and they'll never get back to you or respond to your emails. They're also never in the office. The apartments are over-priced and never cleaned. You won't get half the amenities you're promised, and they won't compensate you no matter how many times they violate your lease. The front office people truly don't give a crap about you and will always blame someone else but refuse to help if they're even there cause half the time, they're not even doing their job. This place is a nightmare and not worth it even if you're desperate. They'll squeeze you for every penny you have and take the last piece of your sanity.

Quite confused as to what wa meant by come help me clean. As parents, long ago we had rented apartments before and never had to clean them before unpacking. One would think you bring your stuff and start unpacking. Yes maybe wipe down the counter perhaps. Not the case here.. The apartment was never never never cleaned from the move out prior. Nor was it even attended to, looked at, anything. We arrived to bugs all over. Some dead, some crawling. The dishwasher never even ran from the gook and I mean gook, from the prior tenants. OLD FOOD AND SLIME ETC left over. Mold around all the windows and in tracks and bathroom showers /tub, also along the floor in the living room. The kitchen underneath the sink, and cabinets was never ever cleaned EVER. There was grease, grime, dirt, slime on the baseboard under neath all the cabinets by sink and stove side. The bedrooms also had mold around the Windows. The mattresses were so old that they were collapsed and also had missing wooden slats. None of the window blinds were even wiped off, dusted etc.. The couch was never wiped down either. It had dirt and grime still left over from prior tenants as well.. Maybe my expectations are to high.. I just ASSUMED that when you pay a transfer fee/security deposit to release you would be getting a clean place. I called maintenance to come and spray for the excessive bug problem. They also happen to be the same people who inspect and clean the apartments at end of lease. They were quite surprised when they came in to check after receiving my phone call of Disgust. They said" OH WOW I GUESS WE MISSED THIS ONE" They were nice enough to order new mattress for all the rooms, as well as replace the broken stools. They then told us to leave the apartment a few hours so they can get the cleaning crew into clean. We pointed out what needed to be cleaned , especially all the vents that were never ever cleaned and the mold issue. We returned hours later to find just the dishwasher was ran. THAT WAS IT. Not even a mop was used, vents Still full of dirt and dust, mold still on floor and around Windows. Cabinets full of dust and dirt and grime, grease . Ants still trailing all over the place upon entry.. So once again I had to get my handy dandy gloves on to clean cabinets, floors, bugs, mold, vents, showers, counter tops, blinds, furniture,, sofa cushions, etc etc etc etc .. I understand this sort of cleanliness goes on in dorm rooms , But not acceptable in an apartment your paying for each month. Very disappointed not only in how the apartment was turned over, but also with how we were told to leave for them to clean only to arrive back with nothing cleaned. Management does not care because the students pay the utility bills and if the bills are high, it does not affect management. I've been living at West Town for several years and I would not recommend it…read more In winter I am freezing in my apartment because there are no heat ducts in the kitchen, hall or bathroom. I run up my electric bill by using space heaters. In summer the halls are dreadfully hot and my apartment only has one small wall opening in the living room for an a/c unit. There is no opening to allow for one in the bedroom so it is always hot. When the snow arrives my sleep is interrupted by their snowplow contractor arriving between 4-5:00 a.m. It takes him 30-45 minutes to do the job and he drops the plow constantly. By the time he is finished there is no going back to sleep. Disturbing a senior community at that hour is horrible. Yes, it is over 55 years and low income but that does not mean that children can't live here. Only 1 person on the lease has to be 55 and you can bring children so noise has been, and can be an issue. There is no security system in place despite thefts from the public areas and from the shelves in the hall next to apartment doors. There is a Complaint Form one can use. Fill it out and receive a memo saying someone will get back to you but they don't. My kitchen stove top is unsafe as the burners are so bent that pans can slip right off. Others tell me they have the same problem. The staff here is minimal and barely able to keep up with cleaning the public areas and vacuuming. Ongoing activities in this senior community organized by West Town Village--none.
