My sister invited my best friend and I as her free guests a couple of months ago (members can bring…read morea free [NEW] guest per visit, which I think is great!) It was my first experience rock climbing and my first time at Uptown. My sister really wanted to do the Top Knot/Belaying class that night, so my friend and I blindly signed up, too. (My sister got the class for free, since she was a member.) Even though I was unaware of what the class was about beforehand, I was glad we participated because it opened up more opportunities in the gym, and I was thrilled to learn something new. After a few more times coming back, I decided to get a membership, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made this year. Here's why: 1.) The staff is so kind, knowledgeable, and eager to help. They remember you when you come in. One of the owners, Rob, is such a friendly guy, and so is Mitzi, the membership development director. Chase, Josh, and Rafael are others that have put a smile on my face, engaged in conversation with me, or have graciously shared beginner tips. The entire team is great, but these are the only people's name I know so far. 2.) The environment is always welcoming, positive, and nonjudgmental. There's a community to found here, with a plethora of diverse people and skill levels. You won't feel uncomfortable as a beginner. There are a lot of people who come daily just to experience something new and try it once, but there are also many beginner, intermediate, and advanced members who visit the gym regularly. 3.) The membership benefits are awesome: 10% off purchases, free access to the gym (a very nice gym), free yoga classes, and access to member-only hours. Plus, certain classes are also free, such as the Top-Knot class. 4.) The classes they offer to teach people more about the climbing world is another factor I appreciate. They offer skills classes, a beginner class, and even private lessons. There's plenty of opportunities for progression and improvement. 5.) I love that they sell drink products, especially because I fell in love with my new favorite feel-good sports drink, Nooma--which was recommended to me by Rob. It's just a nice convenience for when you forget to pack a drink (although they do have a water fountain). 6.) I always enjoy their music selection, haha. 7.) The bathrooms are spacious and clean and offer showers/changing rooms. 8.) The team keeps it fun with events like Trivia night and more. 9.) They offer special packages and discounts every now and then, which I have taken advantage of. 10.) The routes are so fun!! And there are so many! I love that there's a lot to choose from at each level. You won't get bored, and you won't ever feel unchallenged. There's also crack wall, a speed wall, and an entire floor of bouldering. I like that the routes are clearly labeled with their difficultly level + fun/creative names. The routes are nicely color-coded, too, so it's easy to find your next hold. 11.) They are very family friendly! 12.) They genuinely care about your safety and prioritize it. 13.) Membership discounts are available. Check out the website for more details! The ONLY main con is that it (seems) expensive for a one-time pass. It may not be worth it to some, unless you do it once OR take advantage of a membership (which may not appeal to everyone). Being in the middle ground is a high price. Final Verdict: I absolutely love it! I spend a lot of my time here. It has really helped me get a jump start on beginning a healthier lifestyle. It's fun, challenging, and an addictive workout. Overall, it has encouraged me to make healthier choices and has been fuel for my drive towards fitness. A membership has been well worth it for me. I always invite my friends and family, and each time I bring a guest, they also have a great experience.

Uptown is my favorite climbing gym! I have since moved away and I miss it all the time. The staff…read moreare so friendly, the routes get reset often, and the gym is a great community. The price is also very reasonable.
