What an amazing addition to NOLA! A group of my girlfriends and I went recently for BIPOC + allies night, and I want to buy a pass now! The place is kept very clean, there are a ton of variations of climbs to do, whether it's your first time or you're a professional. The climbing community is very welcoming and supportive, so you feel so encouraged to keep trying. One of the employees hosted a free "Bouldering 101" class for about 15-20 minutes to give helpful tips and information. Amenities include: multiple walls with climbing combinations, matts all around in case you fall, shoes (to rent if you don't have your own, you have to use specific shoes), free cubbies for your stuff, water dispenser, and a training room. 12/10, I will be back. read more

The last (and only) time I've been bouldering was about 6 years ago at a college gym. Fast forward to now, where I definitely am less active and limber as I used to be, I was super nervous to come climbing. My friends had been to this place previously for their FREE (!) monthly queer community days and also free monthly climbing days for people of color. They liked it enough to buy a 5 day pass and brought me along on their pass as well. For COVID, you have to reserve 1.5 hour time slots ahead of time. If it's your first time, you also must sign an electronic waiver and watch a safety/instructional video beforehand. Staff was super friendly and checking in at the front desk was a breeze. Rental shoes were included in the pass price. They have a bunch of cubbies where you can leave your shoes, water, phone, etc. Everyone was masked (except when drinking water) and sanitizer is everywhere. They definitely take all the precautions, which I appreciate even as the city starts to open up. They do enforce their time slots so that they are able to clean the facility before the next group of people. I had a great time! A lot of the people here seemed like experts, and there was a child and parent, and then my amateur group haha, so if you're new and a bit nervous, coming with a group of people you're comfortable with definitely helps! My friends I are definitely considering purchasing a monthly membership. Great neighborhood and atmosphere!! My family and friends enjoy spending time here because it is comfortable whether you are climbing or visiting/waiting. We bought a package deal and so far it has been totally worth it. It's nice that clean shoes are available so that we don't have to buy a pair. Lounge is on a bus route, easy/free parking, and bike rack in front. Some beverages and snacks are available for purchase and water is provided. Tables are up front for waiting or eating, etc. We sometimes bring our own lunch and eat after climbing. Other times we go across the street to St. Roch Market for lunch. My daughter and her bff attended a summer day camp and really enjoyed it. The staff is kind and helpful and we will keep coming back! PS. Bathroom is clean, cute and gender neutral. read more

Great bouldering lounge and it's perfect for an intermediate climber like me. I love their overhang routes

The name says it all, it's not a gym, it really is a lounge. Not a lot to climb here, short walls and just a few spaces. I sent through all my climbable problems in about 45 minutes and then just hung out. The setting was average with some unique problems but nothing too special. With that said, seems like a great community and the only bouldering gym in NOLA. I'll be back. read more

Solid bouldering gym! I'm a V3 boulderer who mostly sport climbs but this was a nice gym with a lot of wall surface variety, creative climbs that are accurately graded, and even a small gym area. They also provide a water dispenser with cups almost like a cafe :) The staff is friendly and I'll come again the next time I'm in town! The location is a little out of the way but with a short streetcar ride from downtown and a ten minute stroll, you're there! read more

I visited their previous location on Tchoup a few times so naturally I wanted to visit the new spot on the now-trendy St. Claude. Having grown up close to this area, I think its cool they brought something different yet affordable to this part of town. It's not an ostentatious building, it blends into the neighborhood nicely with great views from the outside looking in, so passersby can see climbers climbing. Im a complete novice when it comes to rock climbing, I mostly come to support my friends who climb. At the old and new locations, I felt extremely welcomed and encouraged. The staff and climbers are warm and kind and I LOVE that they created a welcoming space for ALL climbers. It's finally time for me to write a review for NOBL. One of my favorite places in New Orleans. Let me start with the basics: 1) extremely clean and well maintained all through COVID. Distancing, occupancy and safety protocol were amazing and updated regularly with the latest information. 2) fair and accessible pricing. They work with you to make this sport accessible. This is the draw of the space, and I hope it continues to attract people who believe in that mission. 3) fun routes! A section of the gym changes every 2 weeks. This gives you time to work on that stubborn problem you can't get, but also keeps the space new and exciting. The route setters are also so smart and cool and always come up with great stuff. Also there's a weight and training gym in the back that is reasonably well stocked with weights and climb-specific training, as well as a row machine and a stationary bike that aren't amazing lol. But you don't come here for those. 4) DIVERSE, DIVERSE, DIVERSE. If you have an image of climbing as a certain kind of sport...I get it. I did too. But NOBL goes out of its way to recruit people of color, LGBTQ folks, women, and people who may otherwise feel excluded from this sport. They do this with free group affinity climbs once a month here - I would highly recommend coming to one of those and meeting some of the amazing athletes and friendly neighbors who climb here. They also have an amazing diverse staff. 5) accessible to newbies. I literally climbed a Boulder wall for the first time in my LIFE this Spring. And I've always felt welcomed by the wonderful folks here. I really can't tell you how much I love NOBL. Honestly one of the best community spaces / places to move your body and get some exercise I've ever been to. Wish I could be more effusive with my praise but the words escape me. This was my first time visiting a rock climbing gym, and I was not disappointed! The layout and design is very welcoming. In addition, the staff were extremely knowledgeable. The membership rates are good, and in my opinion, affordable. New monthly membership for adults is $45. This includes everyday access to all facilities, as well as yoga classes on Monday and Tuesday. There's not much competition in terms of climbing gyms but these guys do a good job at keeping the place nice and the routes constantly changed. They also have showers and a pretty decent free weight gym in the back. Everyone is really friendly and when you go enough, you'll learn the busy times (usually the free days - first Friday if every month and selected women's and LGBT+ days). Aside from the actual facility, the location, gentrification in its whole definition which I can point out but I obviously still give them my money so I'll just leave it at that. There aren't a huge amount of options when it comes to climbing gyms here in New Orleans but Boulder Lounge is a great option for beginners or experts. I've been here a few times with my of my expert climbing friends and the staff has always been extremely friendly and the lounge clean. Pros: Good for advanced and beginners, clean, friendly staff, not super crowded, reasonably priced, water, places to sit when you need rest and lots of parking. Cons: A bit small, some of the rocks come loose when climbing, not a huge amount of climbing routes. Overall, great place to climb. I definitely recommend! read more

Last Friday of our Christmas break and we see these guys have free Fridays. I had been hearing a lot of buzz about this place and was super excited to finally be able to experience it. We had already fill out waivers online but we had to watch a safety vid before climbing. Super funny short film btw. After getting shoes that fit super snug we were on our own! we had a blast for a solid two hours. Our 5 year old didn't go too far off the mat but still had a blast perfecting the safety fall. I will say I didn't make the best decision in dress. I have no clue why I didn't think to wear athletic clothes but I still rocked it in my jeans. I cannot wait to return and to also visit the Tchoup location. So many options and routes I think it's impossible to ever do it all. Very well built. read more

I have bouldered at gyms in New York, Seattle, Austin, Salt Lake City, and more. The New Orleans Boulder Lounge is with the best of em'. The routes are fun and creative. The climbing style is a nice mixture of technical and dynamic stuff. The space is bright and airy, with a relaxed atmosphere and good music selection. I learned to climb at NOBL, beginning with V1s and continuing through V4s before I eventually left New Orleans. I can attest that the climbing is fun and engaging at all of these levels. They do cater a bit, i think, to the amateur crowd, so if you like sending v7s on the reg you might run out of things to do here. The community at NOBL is amazing. They throw plenty of community events and host a staff that can offer advice about everything from basics to great outdoor destinations. The gym culture is mellow and social. On quiet weekend afternoons, when the sun lowers into just the right spot, the space takes on an almost zen-like quality. The small square-footage makes it very easy to meet people, but it rarely gets overwhelmingly crowded. You might even spot a couple fellow climbers at Courtyard Brewery afterward. If you like to boulder, or are considering a new and healthy hobby, look no further than this spot. I certainly wish I could take it with me. read more

No harness!!!! I learned this last minute so I want it to the be first for others. This is a boulder lounge, not rock climbing gym, so that means you free climb with only a thick mat on the ground to catch your fall. It makes the experience wild and I think I actually enjoyed it more than rock climbing! Rocks are color coded to climbing difficulty. Awesome place for both amateurs and experienced climbers! The front desk workers, Grace and Joe, are very friendly and helpful. Other workers could really learn a thing or two from them.... HINT HINT to the rude shift change peeps that came in after them a few weekends back. The weekend afternoon was an older crowd, with people in their 20-40s. NOBL is going to be the premier place to climb in New Orleans. I had the privilege to see it at the start of construction, and to climb at their founding members soft opening. And I have to say I'm excited that this has come to New Orleans. The concept is a little different from a typical climbing gym. It's bouldering only. No ropes or harnesses, just bouldering problems. Nothing over 20', and a thick pad at the bottom to cushion falls. Shoes are all you need, and they're included if you buy a day pass or membership. We are sorely lacking in climbing near New Orleans, outdoor and indoor. I visit Slidell Rocks from time to time, but I never enjoy myself there. The routes are poorly set and maintained, and their business is birthday parties, not the climbing community. NOBL is not like that. The problems are clear and smart, designed by climbers. The gym is not huge, but the wall design allows for easy and frequent route changes so it won't get stale. I expected a learning curve at first for them in setting routes, but I thought the quality of the problems was high right off the bat. Not tinkering too much might be more of a concern than anything (don't want to see a problem I spend weeks working on to disappear!). There are more good problems in this space than many bigger gyms, and enough variety to keep everyone from a beginner to a veteran busy. I haven't seen these yet, but they plan to have a fitness room and yoga classes in their yoga studio. I'm really looking forward to this. Climbing is more than enough of a physical workout that I don't really need a separate gym membership, and the fitness room and yoga will give some variety and keep my workouts more well-rounded. read more

We were super excited to check this place out! I am a NOLA native and my wife and I live and climb in Colorado and were in town on vacation. We paid $15 each for a day pass. A little expensive by a few bucks for the size of the gym but hey, you're climbing in New Orleans. The "orientation" was a little awkward for us as experienced climbers. The guy asked us if we'd climbed before and I mentioned we were members of the same gym as several professional climbers and my two training partners were full time route setters. He seemed un-phased by that and started off with "so bouldering is climbing but without ropes". You don't say...I know they have to give the low down legally so we took it in stride. They have washed cups for water if you don't bring your own bottle. A small work out area, and a few snacks, tea etc. Worth checking out to get some exercise in. The routes were actually set up well in my opinion. The bouldering cave was awesome and I was stoked to see locals pulling some pretty tough moves. For other experienced visiting climbers, don't expect too much climbing etiquette. Lead by example and try not to get pissed at someone. Things will evolve as they build a climbing community in New Orleans. It's important to stay inclusive and friendly to newcomers. We're excited to come back in a year or so and see what's new. read more

This place is rock climbing meets gym meets yoga. I have not yet climbed but I have taken a few yoga classes which were phenomenal. Leslie T's class on Mondays at 8:15 pm are my favorite although the last class I took here was freezing cold. I know it is summer but the ac was cranked on so high it was windy in that little room. I was shivering during my shavasana it was so chilly. I shall still return because Leslie is the best! I also really like that this facility has gender neutral bathrooms. read more

As mentioned by Jason T, for the experienced patron, the orientation was unnecessarily intensive, but I contributed it to the fact that most New Orleanians have probably never bouldered before, and liability can be a b*tch for a small business owner. Fortunately, though, the routes had surprisingly quality after the awkward start. My main issue when visiting was the familiarity between staff members. I would stand at the counter for quite a while before being helped, because staff members would be busy chatting with each other, or friends that had stopped by. Again, I'll chalk it up (pun intended) to the fact that they're new, and they're still figuring it out. I was also bummed that they don't allow you to wear headphones while bouldering. I know that seems nitpicky, but that's the good part about bouldering, right? At the risk of sounding extremely douchey - I've been lucky to visit a LOT of gyms, some of which are the highest reviewed in the country - I've yet to visit another gym with this policy. But, again, a new gym in a spot where no one can climb elsewhere in the area, I guess I can rationalize the extra safety precautions. TLDR: One should not expect this gym to compare to other spots in the West (...yet?) read more

One of the best new additions to New Orleans! I had no prior experience to bouldering before and these guys were more then happy to help. There is an intro orientation for beginners which is good and you can rent shoes if you want to try it for a day. It's a great atmosphere and a good way to meet new people in the city. My wife is from New Orleans, and I was always bummed that there is no where (at all) to climb when we visit her family. I've been climbing for 13 years and climbing outdoors (and indoors) all over the country, so I was excited to hear that NOBL was opening and was psyched to check it out. It's a nice, modern bouldering facility. Clean aesthetics, a nice variety of angles without having too much (turning every problem into a stem problem), a good hold selection. Time will tell how often they clean the holds and rotate out the old ones, but all good so far. The setting was decent, better than I expected. I would say half of the climbs I got on in the v4-v8 range felt right, and flowed nicely. Some others felt a little awkward and contrived, but I'm sure the overall level will improve with time as the setters get trained up. For the experienced climber coming here not knowing what to expect, they grade the climbs based on color of tape marking the start/end holds, with each color being a range of V grades. At the front of the gym they have a list of the actual grades for each climb. I actually really enjoyed this aspect. You can get on a climb only generally knowing how hard it is, but then if you want to double-check later, you can see the "official" grade. When I was there there was a good variety of climbs up to v5. There were probably 4-5 V6s, 2 V7s, and 1 V8. I thought the V8 was the easiest (even out of most of the 6s), not sure if it was due to the flow being a little better on that one or if it was just my strengths. Looking forward to seeing the local population get stronger and see more of those upper-level grades get set. There is a nice training area in the back with a campus board with a variety of grips, hang boards, and a peg board. Other exercise equipment was also there, but I don't recall what exactly. I went over Christmas, so it was pretty empty. I can imagine it gets very crowded, and hopefully they will be able to expand soon to include roped climbing. NOBL will definitely be a regular stop from now on whenever I'm visiting the in-laws. read more

Beautiful, well-lit space, quality routes, vegan snacks. Stoked we finally have a climbing gym in town. $15 is too expensive for just bouldering though. Everywhere I've climbed in the past cost around $10 for a day pass. The city's giving them a hard time for busting NOLA's rock climbing hymen, so that's probably why the safety precautions were extreme here. Orientation and contracts took 20 minutes, then all jewelry has to come off, and they mean ALL. We opted not to rent shoes because my partner and I are both experienced climbers with thin, outdoor running shoes, and the friendly desk clerks said that was fine. 10 minutes later though a manager was yelling at us like children for "improper attire." So it turns out their $15 fee is actually $20. $5 shoe rental isn't bad, but we left because we felt duped. The manager was super hostile. They need to OK shoes BEFORE you pay if they're going to play that game. read more
