I wanted to share my experience with Julia Brown School regarding my daughter's time there…read more Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and left us feeling that the environment was not supportive of helping children adjust and thrive. When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

The teachers are phenomenal and the campus is clean and neat. School communications are clear and prompt, there's always someone there to answer questions or concerns. One of my favorite parts of JBS Silver Spring is the community. We have met life-long friends both for the kids and us parents. Often when a child leaves JBS Silver Spring, we stay in touch with the family since the kids build such a close bond. I can't imagine us being anywhere else, it's truly our dream school come true.

Really impressed with the quality of teachers here. You can tell they don't hire just anyone. I…read moreused to teach Montessori when I was in college and I can testify that not all preschools are as high quality as you would hope, but I have been extremely pleased with our experience at Family Academy of Bethesda in both the younger and older classrooms. They take care of things for you and are completely child-centered, and they somehow manage to be laid back and provide a stronger academic program than most schools. The kids are all lively and sweet and engaged-- I was a little worried about preschool crushing my son's spirit but Family Academy really seems to follow the Montessori idea for real and created a real curiosity and love of learning in my 2 year old. It is so fun to watch him color and wash dishes and it's clear he enjoys it. The school buildings are a little dilapidated, but I think that's because the staff is focused on quality teaching for the kids rather than expanding and looking fancy to attract more parents. Anyway they are totally clean and each classroom is it's own house, which is really cute. Definitely would recommend it if you can get a spot.

My son has…read morebeen here since he was just three months old and stayed until almost three years old, when unfortunately we had to move away due to work relocation. If it weren't for that, we would have loved for him to stay here as long as possible. It's hard to put into words how incredible this place has been for our family. From the days when he could barely lift his head, to learning to walk, talk, sing, and share stories about his day, we've watched him grow into a happy, curious, and confident little boy--all thanks to the loving care and nurturing environment of Family Academy. He not only learned language and knowledge, but also good manners and a true love of learning. The teachers are absolutely amazing--kind, patient, and so easy to communicate with. My son is a slow and picky eater, yet they always gave him extra time and gentle encouragement. They care for each child as if they were their own. The administration team is just as wonderful; they know every child by name and engage with them warmly every single day. What makes Family Academy so special is not only the quality of education but the genuine love and attention they give to every child. The environment encourages exploration, creativity, and curiosity about everything in the world. I could see every day how happy my son was here.I am deeply grateful for everything the Family Academy has given to our son and to our family. This school is truly a treasure in the community, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to any parent.

It's a bilingual school, but their summer program doesn't have any formal non-English language…read morelearning. The kids are generally exposed to other languages because the language teachers are "present throughout the summer program" and "language exposure is offered through basic words/phrases, songs and cultural exploration". Though I would prefer formal language instruction during the summer, I realize they're aiming to work with a mixed level group because some of their campers aren't the same kids they have during the school year where language learning takes place more often and more formally. In other words, some children come to the camp without knowing any other language besides English and each week different children may be enrolled. I ask my child all the time if they enjoy the camp and always inquire about the details of their day. My child has nothing but good things to say. They always come home with arts, crafts, and tales of adventures in the pool, playground, or specialty events such as the occasional soccer, puppet show, or whatnot. The main reason I enrolled my child is because they were very bored at their school-year daycare, started to get into a bit of trouble because of it, and complained about the other kids being "mean" and hitting sometimes and all of that. I knew my little one needed a change of pace so I sought to put them into what looked like a strong activity-based and high-engagement summer program. My child needs a lot of constant engagement, stimulation, and encouragement and my little one is certainly receiving that at Spring Bilingual. As I shared before, my child speaks with excitement about their day and has nothing but good things to say about the teachers and other campers. This camp has been a very good fit for my child right now; albeit the lack of formal language instruction. The staff is friendly, and my energetic child has made friends and is happy to be dropped off each morning. Each day my child comes home safe and tired.
