I walked the path with coffee in one hand and folded umbrella in the other. The whole place had that clean, quiet Sunday morning smell that only shows up after a steady rain. The lake was calm, the air felt fresh and it was the kind of quick stop that resets your mood before getting back on the road. The park has a picnic shelter and public restroom. My Dog Napoleon thinks it's his park and insists ongoing there for every walk. Most people are respectful and enjoy the green area and also clean up after themselves if they have dogs, however there are a few in the minority that aren't as community minded. Saw two other large dogs with owners who could barely control them. Unfortunate because there are a lot of children and people playing near the water area and the playground area. Highly recommend one of my favorite parks of the city. They also have concerts and events like movies here.

There is a huge green in front of a bandshell that is an amphitheater. Lovely public restrooms. A neat shaded walk with picnic tables and a gazebo. A beautiful fountain. All in the shadow of the Bell Tower. The park dates back to 1855 when Salisbury native Maxwell Chambers donated the two blocks to the First Presbyterian Church. There is a very clever swinging bridge that connects both sides of the lake to an island. On the island is a covered picnic shelter. There are several picnic shelters around the park that includes an eighteen-hole disc golf course. The Park also contains a large section of The Falcon Trail, a 2.72-mile trail, that is mostly natural surface, and is a part of the Carolina Thread Trail. I had a great visit. Wanted to go for a jog the other day and didn't quite feel like driving over to Concord so I…read morewhipped out the old smartphone. I found this place by simply putting "parks near me" into Google. Sure enough this place is less than 10 minutes away and I had no idea it even existed. It's a cute little park with one big soccer field, a decent sized parking lot and two (connected) trails. The trail on the right is actually one end of the Mallard Creek Greenway. Off the top of my head I'm not sure how far up that goes but I've been on other portions of it before so I know it goes well into Charlotte. The path on the left is the reason I like this park so much. It is simultaneously the best and worst feature of this place. Why is it the best? This path goes for about a half mile back in to the woods on a massive wooden bridge/boardwalk. Most of the time your only maybe three feet off the ground, though the portion over the creek is probably twenty feet from bridge to creek bed. Despite this, the way the trees and terrain are layed out, if your running down the path looking straight ahead it's almost like your running through tree tops. It's really neat. The reason it's also the worst feature is the state this wonderfully cool bridge is in. It's all wooden and a lot of the boards could use some love. Several spots near the start have been worn significantly enough that you need to watch your footing when running. There are also a few places with boards missing completely from the railing and I'm pretty sure at least one piece had some nails sticking up. It's a shame it isn't better taken care of, but I assume this place just doesn't get the traffic to justify better maintenance. I think it's still worth a visit for the great little hidden trails, just keep your eyes open and your feet steady if you plan to run.

Spencer features community buildings available for rental for family reunions, meetings, weddings and gatherings. Other amenities include picnic shelters, a 1.5-mile trail, a playground, a volleyball court, six cabins, eight tent sites, three fishing ponds, picnic sites, horseshoe pits, restrooms and a bathhouse. The park's swimming pool is open each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Lots of spots for picnics in a natural environment. Several of the picnic tables have grills and trash cans nearby. This is a great recreation area in the Uwharrie National Forest along Badin Lake…read more You do have gravel roads to get through to it, but it's well worth it. There are also full campgrounds nearby. This area is on a spit of land in Badin Lake. It is very spacious with plenty of parking, fishing piers and even some "beach" areas. There is a large shelter with a large greenspace in front of of it at the back end of the park. There is also toilet facilities, picnic tables and charcoal grills around the area. Very clean and it makes for a nice day outdoors.
