After an ungraceful tumble on Tuesday (graceful is overrated anyway), I found myself at Ortho…read moreNebraska Oakview on Thursday for a follow-up. I checked in online, had barely warmed the seat in the waiting room when I was called back--talk about efficiency! From start to finish, I felt seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. Sally, the PA, was warm and thorough. She explained my break and the treatment options in a way that made everything feel a little less intimidating. Then Dr. Bruggeman came in with that same mix of professionalism and kindness, and together they quickly determined surgery was needed. Here's the kicker: they scheduled my surgery that same day! I had to juggle a few things at work, but honestly, I was just so grateful to get the process started and my wrist on the mend. This wasn't my first rodeo with Ortho Nebraska (shoutout to my other wrist and a few stubborn shoulders), and once again, they proved why I'll keep coming back...I just really hope I don't have to for a while. Thanks, Ortho Nebraska, for always handling my clumsy adventures with care, speed, and a whole lot of heart!

Top orthopedic surgeons and care!…read more This is my second go-around with full knee replacement surgery, the first was in 2009. I can't say enough about OrthoNE and their level of care. My surgeon, Dr. Sayfe Jassim, has this whole process down to an art form, from pre-surgery to using robotics and a minimally invasive procedure to a post-operative medication and physical therapy plan that is well planned and requires me to participate. I can't recommend this facility and team highly enough.

Today, I visited MD West One for a second opinion regarding a work-related injury affecting my…read moreright shoulder, arm, and hand, including symptoms of pain, swelling, purple/blue discoloration, and numbness. My goal was to gain clarity on my condition, as I previously felt I was not receiving clear answers--only recommendations for procedures--despite the impact this injury has on my ability to perform my job. The check-in process was efficient and professional. After being called back, I was weighed and taken to an evaluation room. Approximately ten minutes later, a nurse practitioner entered. She was friendly and took the time to ask detailed questions about the incident. She conducted an evaluation and asked whether my original provider had performed an X-ray of my hand or only a visual assessment. When I explained that only a visual evaluation had been done, she expressed concern that imaging had not been completed. She also stated that, based on her review of my chart, I did not have carpal tunnel syndrome but instead may have a rheumatoid autoimmune condition. This was new information to me and had not previously been communicated by my original specialist. I did note that my primary care provider at Methodist Hospital had once mentioned the possibility of an autoimmune issue but had not confirmed a diagnosis. The nurse practitioner indicated she would step out to conduct further research and return with additional information. Approximately fifteen minutes later, Dr. Jeffrey Tiedeman entered the room. He asked questions that I had already addressed and referenced my visit to the emergency room due to loss of feeling in my right hand. At that point, the experience shifted. He examined my hands and stated that an X-ray was needed to confirm a carpal tunnel diagnosis. I asked whether this could be performed during my visit, and he instructed me to follow up with my current provider instead. I explained that my current provider had not recommended or ordered an X-ray. I asked again for assistance, and my request was declined. It became clear to me that my concerns were not being fully addressed, and I did not feel supported in obtaining answers about my condition. Both the doctor and nurse practitioner then left the room without explanation and did not return. I waited approximately fifteen minutes before realizing the visit had concluded without closure, guidance, or next steps. This experience was disappointing, as I sought a second opinion to better understand my condition and receive appropriate direction for treatment. Unfortunately, the lack of communication and follow-through did not meet those expectations.

The staff are very nice and let her speak for herself without any type of reserve or anything like that, so that was great. The check in process was a bit arduous and I felt like I had to repeat my answers, basically and triplicate so that was a bit annoying but the staff was very friendly and assured me that it would allow The doctors examination to go more smoothly. Once we were all checked in, there was almost no way, and after a quick examination by one of the nurses, we then were taking off to the in-house x-ray. The room we were seen and was brand new with very impressive equipment as her father I was allowed to attend the x-ray, and they made sure that we were both safe and process us very quickly. Once we got back to the room, we saw the doctor, and what was great that he was able to explain things and show things to my daughter and language that she was unable to understand. What I really appreciated was that he then also explain things in a more advanced and higher level for me to understand what was going on the best course for treatment and recommendations for how to stabilize her foot and get her back to normal faster. Overall was very impressed with this visit. Beautiful office nice staff and wonderful doctors. I would highly recommend this for anybody who needs urgent care for orthopedic problems.

No further diagnostic testing done except X-rays. Dr. finally recommended he numb the major nerves in both knees, recommended for patients who were "unhappy with their replacements." Wishing one final second opinion outside Lincoln went to Dr. Kevin Garvin at UNMC who ordered additional xrays and a nuclear bone scan. The scan revealed aseptic loosening in both replacements, with the last knee replaced already showing signs of rotating. I have undergone two total knee revisions since his finding, replacing the discs with ones with spikes attached that descend into the tibia. The revisions take longer to heal and are more painful. Please seek a second opinion if you aren't progressing but failing and someone is recommending you deaden the nerves running through your knees.

The doctors and the anesthesiologist were excellent. The facilities are great. I'm very pleased with the whole place. Mind you, my face hurts, as is expected when one resists painkillers. They told me to show up at the hospital by 2 PM for my 4 PM slot. After some quick schedule juggling (because, life), I was there and ready. Check-in was fast and friendly. The pre-op nurses were fantastic--my husband and I even cracked a few jokes about my "graceful" injury (hey, laughter is the best medicine, right?). Dr. Monte Christo gave me a nerve block, and honestly, the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery wondering what just happened! Recovery was cozy--two slices of peanut butter toast and a Diet Coke to help me wake up, and before I knew it, I was heading home. Bonus points for the post-op staff handling my pain meds prescription so I didn't have to run around town chasing it down. All in all, what could have been a stressful, scary day turned into a smooth, well-cared-for experience thanks to the amazing Ortho Nebraska team. They made a tough situation a whole lot easier, and while I hope my orthopedic adventures are on pause for a while, I know exactly where I'd go if they're not. Thanks again, OrthoNebraska--you're the best!
