It is so much fun to feed the animals and have the grandkids run around and play on the slides, the jump pad, and all the different activities and games they can enjoy. There are numerous concession stands available to purchase food, snacks and beverages. It was such a wonderful relief to see the rainclouds disappear on this particular visit as it turned out to be a beautiful day

I highly recommend purchasing your tickets online in advance because you will save time and money that way. I believe it is more expensive if you buy tickets at the front booths. That, plus you can schedule an arrival time. Parking is free too so that's a plus! They have plenty of fun family activities to do: gem mining, barrel rides, slides, kids playground areas etc. This is definitely a great spot to bring your kids for some fun in the outdoors! I love their Cedar Glade Trail was a nice little walk for our family and we got to see all the adorable animals! They had Racoons, emu's, goats, capybaras, prairie dogs and red foxes! They also have a bunch more animals towards the front for guests to see. We loved the peacocks. The aviary is a nice spot for guests to walk around and feed the birds. They also had an area with a couple bunnies for guests to pet. There's plenty of other animals they have but it would much to long to mention them all! Almost all of the animals looked happy and had a very spacious habitat to enjoy. Well worth the $16 entrance fee! We will be back for future events!

Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge is an amazing place to head towards if you are in the area. The water views are stunning and I enjoyed walking the nature trail. All park attendants were efficient, kind, informed, and organized. There are two enclosures for bird watching, one is heated and the other is not. The heated one is a two-story structure with bleacher-styled seating and fully glassed walls which offer a really nice view. This building also has floor-mounted binoculars. All of the pathways were wide and comfortable. They are remodeling the visitor's center which partially reopened in March 2023. They are adding new interpretive exhibits which should be cool to see! I'm really happy we have this refuge that manages and protects habitat for 12 federally endangered or threatened species. It's definitely worth the short drive to Decatur to visit!

I was surprised the whole time bc it was not something I would think to care about except for taking my kids to when they little many years ago. However it was actually so enjoyable and neat to be at. It is filled with so many people clearly for a reason. I'd recommend anyone go to it even if they think it's not their type of thing. It is very cool for sure. Also, the last thing we did was hop on that little train( which I didn't care to do at all without little kids with me) yet it was a shocker how that man driving the train who shares about all things throughout the event that you get to see again from a different view on that train...he was super awesome. I actually would have ridden that train and listened to that man over and over and over again. He was fun to hear from. It is not super expensive so do not resist to do it. Gather up your group or just you and your spouse or for take your kids if they are still young. This is for sure a fun enjoyable thing to go see.
