Had a fun time here. I was terrified at first, but at the end, I switched with my husband and operated the jet ski for a bit myself too. I did the 30 minute Jetski rental with a half price Groupon. They make you fill out some liability forms, give you a quick safety lesson, and then it's out on your own. There are some buoys in the water that indicate what points not to pass, but the area of water you get to ride around in is more than enough. Riding a jetski is very easy and even easier than riding a bike! They offer longer jetski rentals as well, including a four hour tour that will get you by the Statue of Liberty. They also have kayak rentals and stand up paddle board rentals, which I have not tried. I will definitely be back to this place sometime. read more

Did the Harbor Tour. Gilligan did a 3-hour tour, this was a 4-hour tour. Buckle up, you will not be on a lake, its NYC and NYC has lots of potholes in its streets which gives you a bumpy ride and its waterways are no different. Once you go over 20-25 mph it starts to get real bumpy. We were soar for no less than 2 days after the adventure. Saw some great sights and captivated all of those who read our story on Facebook. Tony our leader was great, the WaveRunners were in Great Shape and worked perfectly. Terrible customer service. Booked the jet skis and emailed them over concerns of weather forecast (it said 70% chances of rain) and they never wrote back to me. It is a long way to go all the way to Rockaway beach without knowing whether you will be able to ride the jet skis or not and still they did not answer to any of my concerns. Giving the weather forecast I did not go and requested a refund which they for once answered the e mail very fast stating all the reasons why they will not refund me. I wish they wouldv'e act as professional with my previous e mails. Don't waste your time going all the way to Rockaway for a bad experience, book the ones in New Jersey just 20 minutes away from Manhattan. They have great jet skis, amazing staff and amazing customer service plus you ride in the Hudson River and not in the ocean. read more

The owner/manager there is incredibly rude. My friends & I have gone last year as the first year and we had a so-so experience as we are not easily disturbed, however, going just yesterday, the same guy with the shoulder length hair was beyond rude. We paid for our passes and were going to be a little late, so we called to see if we could still ride the jet skis, the girls said, "No problem, we'll just put you on for the 3pm instead of 2pm." We get there and his attitude was really sarcastic and belittling. He complained about our lateness the entire 5 mins of the safety video, then we began talking amongst one another because we were excited, he told us to stop talking while the video was playing. Excuse me?! We missed 89% of the vid because you're yapping your trap. THEN, we were sent away to wait for our 3 jet skis, it was about 30 mins before he found us right outside the waiting area and said, "You were all supposed to be on the jet skis right now, now you're creating a problem for other riders." Mind you, we weren't given any instructions on what to do after we paid & just got talked down to during the safety video. The jet skiing is fun, and the Thai food next door is ok, but we will NEVER return. Next year, we are going elsewhere. Paid far too much money to be dealing with that bs. PLUS, parking there SUCKS. You literally park in a makeshift driveway blocking ppl in & having to move your car every 5 mins to let ppl out. read more

Our paddle boarding instructor Linda went above and beyond while teaching us how to do it. You walk to their floating yacht which is actually their business office. We were taken inside and got briefed on the safety. However the scheme for security deposit was little annoying but I understand it's their company policy. You can do credit or cash security deposit. If you want to avoid the later on hassle I would recommend you do cash deposit ($500) and get it back at the spot after the ride. If you do credit/online then you have to wait few days for it to get refunded in your account. While making reservation you were asked if you want to buy dry bags for your phone and I would personally suggest not to get one as per my experience a ziplock works perfectly fine. Each jet ski has a small dry cabin where you can put your phone and other small cameras. Had a great time. Awesome service and very friendly staff. Will visit again very soon. read more

I had a great time! It was my first experience riding a jet ski and I will definitely be coming back before the summer is over. I did a tour to Coney Island. I felt safe and secure the whole time, the guide made sure to check that everyone was following. The jet ski worked great, and it was a seamless transaction to book on their website. Very user friendly and clear of what you were getting. The price was good as well, and staff was nice and helpful. They took the time to explain everything in detail and answer all of my concerns as I was a bit nervous. Definitely recommend this company! read more

My wife and  I had a terrible experience with our kayak tour. We had a pleasant start on our trip then stopped off at a small beach. Jay then said he planned on us going around this bridge and head back. My wife and I thought our return trip would take us around the corner, but Jay took us out to rough, windy waters. My wife was struggling because she was not heavy enough for the kayak to maintain a forward speed. Jay YELLED some unacceptable things to my wife as a tour guide: "You can't just sit there, we're behind schedule " My wife was NOT sitting still. It was also not our job to know the schedule and time frame. "Don't worry about steering, just keep paddling " He did not acknowledge that my wife would get further and further from shore if she did not steer. Not only did he yell at my wife, but he didn't come prepared to help at all. My wife and I have kayaked many times. The guides always came with a bungee to attach kayaks to help if there was any issue. On top of offering no help, he went extremely far ahead of my wife and was leaving her behind. This one hour relaxing kayak tour became a 3 hour tour with high waves, head  winds, and very strenuous. Because my wife was too light to maintain her speed, she dangerously overworked herself. She has an injured bicep and had to stay home from work today. Keep in mind,  my wife and I are in great shape and work as pesonal trainers. This was not an issue of fitness. Jay finally called in jet skis to pick us up. My jet ski snapped the bungee on the kayak so i had to hold the kayak while riding the jet ski backwards.  The kayak keep jumping up and hitting me. It almost broke one of my left fingers. I have several painful bruises from the kayak jumping up and hitting me. I was also in a really uncomfortable position due to holding the kayak down and got a sore lower back. Even taking the jet skis back took a long time and there is no way the return trip made any sense on kayaks. If we had simply turned around and went back the same way we kayaked out, none of this would have happened. Jay took an irresponsible, ill thought out return route. The whole operation was disorganized and run by young kids. We will never go back. The company AT LEAST refunded us. read more

I hardly ever write reviews... but I felt I must share this. I went jet skiing here this past weekend. I reserved 2 units... for 2 couples to rode tandem. AFTER all the financials were settled, papers signed and instructional video watched... we walked out to the dock to board or jet-skis. As we were getting our safety vests on, the employee showed us the jets we would be using. They looked old, beat-up and in terrible condition (see the pics I took). Only after I insisted on different units, the owner cane out to talk to us. As each word came out if his mouth, his insulting behavior got worse and worse! He looked at us and started to tell us how the Jetske can only manage 450 pounds. He said that we are very large people and that we would probably tip the JetSki over... at which point I will ride with you over and there would be no refunds. Let me say, in all honesty we are not skinny or petite people. My friend and I are NOT huge.... ok... a little chubby but FAR from the weight limit including our VERY FIT men! The owner was so insulting! So unprofessional! We were shocked at his behavior!! But.... he kept going on and on at the mouth! Because my guests were from out of state and I didn't want to disappoint them, i told them to just ignore his insensitive behavior... be careful and lets just have a good time! Bottom line.... jetskiis look really crappy....owner is an insensitive, unprofessional creep.... and there are many other places to use. I would NEVER, EVER go back here again!! read more

The Jetski's were in horrible condition and kept breaking down mid trip. The tour guide Glen was VERY RUDE and could care less that my Jetski kept breaking down and I was left behind 4 times. It would take him a good 15 minutes to look back and notice that I was stranded and big boats were heading strait towards me. My 2nd complaint is that after our horrible tour was over. He charged me $300 for "damage" that he claims I did to the jetski. This is 100% fraud! I did not make any physical contact with anybody in our group nor did I even bump into anything during the trip. He put me on a broken ski initially because I declined to take out his insurance. He must have glued the jet ski parts together because as soon as we got out onto the water the bumper flew right off. Long story short I paid for myself and my cousin to go on this tour and not only do I feel robbed of the overpriced trip I was extorted for $300 of damage when we got back to the dock. read more

I had an awesome time and would go back to Rockaway Jet Ski in a heartbeat. It's disheartening to see so many bad reviews, but I almost understand why. I went a few weeks ago with a group and we reserved 5:00 and 5:30 time slots for 11 of us. We arrived on time for check-in, but like most of the Yelpers, we had a bit of a wait since they were servicing others who were checking in before us, so we hung out at the cafe and some of us ate. Around 5:15, we finally got to check in on the boat that is the office, sign the paperwork and put down deposits. Now, I understand how some of you are not happy about the $500 deposit, but think about it on a business aspect. If you wreck their jet ski, you're liable and they'll need you to pay, and they'll be able to get your money if you decide to try to bail. If you don't wreck their jet ski, all is right with the world and they will take the hold off the $500, ergo you're not charged. That's what happened for me: I returned the jet ski just fine, and i don't see a charge in my account from them. Also, I saw other Yelpers were complaining about the customer service. I'd say, for two guys who had to deal with a group of 11 and whoever else was coming in with reservations, they handled us just fine. They were patient, didn't get an attitude when we asked questions, and were friendly and chatty enough. So anyway, the paperwork took about 30-45 minutes for everyone to complete. We put our belongings in lockers (free) on the boat (which they will provide locks and keys, also for free, for those who didn't bring any) and went out to the dock, where we received instructions and waited for jet skis to return from earlier riders. That took a little while. I'm not sure what time I finally got on the jet ski (may have been 6:15), but once I did, all my worries just blew away with the wind in my face and the water bouncing underneath my feet. I got that jet ski up to 45mph and didn't fall off once! *knocks on wood for the future* Needless to say, I am totally going back next summer. read more

What an amazing time we had - I wish we could give it more than 5 stars! I bought a groupon for a 4 hour tour of NYC, and was a bit nervous. I didn't have any problems making a reservation. They're consistently booked (a good sign I definitely think!) so we opted for an open Sunday instead of a Saturday tour. When you get there, the place looks a little barren because they're renovating after Hurricane Sandy, but they made us feel right at ease. When filling out the paperwork they let you know about optional insurance and that we needed to pay tax on the groupon. That was the only surprise we encountered. I think they should mention that on the groupon in advance. Wet suits were included, and I was encouraged to wear one for a more comfortable ride. I'm glad I took the suggestion. The sun, wind and salt water can really beat up your skin & once on dry land I was in great shape (most of the others in our group didn't bother with the wet suit & were a bit red & uncomfortable afterward) It took me a little time to get accustomed to the ski, but once I was comfortable, my boyfriend and I had a BLAST! I can't believe how fast the time went! The views were spectacular. Imagine seeing the Statue of Liberty from the FRONT! We got to swim under the Verrazano. Stopped at the Intrepid, Battery Park, Coney Island . . . wow, just WOW! I can't believe how much distance we covered. And our tour guide, Glenn, took pictures of our whole trip - which you get, btw, free of charge! BONUS!!! After the tour, we ate at Thai Rock - home base for Rockaway Jet Ski - and had an amazing meal, deliciousness! and sat under an umbrella enjoying the live band while watching other jet skiers enjoy their ride. We just finished a Coney Island tour with Robert, one of the owners and it was A LOT of fun, albeit choppy on our way out to Coney Island. We love Rockaway Jet Ski and faithfully return a few times every year for a fun experience on Jamaica Bay. Their Sunset tour is a favorite! Our time here wouldn't be complete without drinks and lunch or dinner at Thai Rock, which seriously offers the BEST Thai food and drinks in Queens. Mister always tells me it's his favorite restaurant, and THAT is saying a lot- if you know him, you'll know what I mean. read more

We bought a Living Social offer for Rockaway Jet ski and like the previous reviewer, I was a bit skeptical. What kind of operation are we going to find out here I thought. Living Social gives you 7 days to cancel for a full refund and I actually thought about calling to cancel. I've read in the papers that Rockaway Beach is the new hot spot but I was still a bit skeptical. So, we made a reservation (and they were very pleasant to deal with) and figured what the heck. The A train from Manhattan (with the transfer at Broad Channel) took almost an hour and a half (less coming back) but it was a very enjoyable ride crossing the water on the train. It is a two minute walk from the Beach 90th station (one of the least used subway stations in the system). We had a blast on the jet ski's. You can ski right up to the subways and people wave - it was a lot of fun. You can see the aircraft queueing up for takeoff at JFK. The deck at Thai Rock is very nice. We ordered some appetizers and enjoyed our cocktails - it was excellent. We'll definitely return. We walked over to the boardwalk and visited some of the new concessions there and had a great day in The Rockaways. read more

My sister and I always celebrate our birthdays together, and this year it just so happened to be in NYC. We both have wanted to go Jet Skiing for the longest time, and decided that we were certainly going to pursue it this year. We Google'd Jet skiing in NYC and Rockaway Jet Ski came right up as a result ! I called immediately and a very nice guy answered the phone ( Glenn the owner ) I told him that my sister and I wanted to book an appointment and have a tour. Well lets go with pros and cons... Pros: what a great experience! We purchased a living social deal and were able to jetski for about 30 min, freestyle. It was really fun, the staff were very informative and helpful and you could tell they really wanted you to have a good time. The sights were amazing, the jet skis were relatively easy to use. Very satisfied overall with the experience. The deal also came with 2 free drinks at their bar which were excellent! Cons: we booked a 2:00 reservation. Got there at about 1:30 to check-in, put our things in a complimentary locker, etc. Literally got on a jet ski at about 3:20! Ridiculous. They blamed it on a 4-hour tour that was booked ahead of us. At least 4 other couples were booked for 2:00 as well. It was frustrating. The owner came and reassured opus at we'd be on jet skis ASAP. I guess you kinda get what you pay for with a living social/group on deal. There is a lady who works I'm the restaurant who is very rude (short hair, Asian) she pushed the chairs around us as we were filling out our paperwork. Rude! There is also a safety deposit fee of $500 which they don't tell you. Supposedly it's on the living social/groupon, but it does not mention the amount. You do get the money back within 3-5 days (let's hope) I would give the place another shot, hopefully it won't be as delayed in schedule. read more
