Yesterday I went with my 3 kids and let me tell how amazing and welcoming all staff there was. We had such an amazing time it was for a birthday celebration and let me tell you how they really made our day. The staff at the office along with the staff that went out to the water with us, all wonderful. The one at the water was very patient and highly attentive as we kept falling in the water and he was right there everything to help us. He also took many amazing pictures and videos. Customer care and service was non existent. Extremely rude and arrogant chubby guy with size A cup breast that looks like a Wal-Mart version of Sean Penn working there was very sarcastic and snobby. When my wife asked "why do you need my drivers license number?" he rudely said "just give it to me... it's incase you die". Really? Incase you die?. Why would you say that to someone that's inexperienced, about to get on a jet ski. Why would you ever say that to any customer? Oh and the jet ski's are banged up and appear to be over 10 years old. First off ask for Demetrius only if you want to have the best Tour! Me and 3 other people did the 90 minute tour around the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn bridge. What an experience! These guys are so so so awesome and made our experience really really great. We opted for the Statue of Liberty and downtown NYC jet ski tour with the photo package! The photo package is so worth it! Our instructor/tour guide was Demetrius and he was awesome! With his avengers life jacket, he took care of every single person on the tour! Made frequent stops to ensure everyone was on track and following the group. Awesome experience watching the Liberty statue from so close and then views of downtown and Brooklyn bridge from so close.. its awesome and totally worth every penny! Sounds like this place used to be good, but no longer. What a catastrophe of an operation. They had us wait for 3 hours, and then told us they didn't have enough jet skis. When we asked for a refund, they said they don't give refunds. To top it off, the owner sat inside his truck hiding from us the entire time. A small handshake or "I'm sorry" would have gone a long way. I truly have never met a more incapable group of people. I would not trust them with your safety. read more

The directions on arrival/parking are unclear, came to the place and found many shops/industrial buildings with no one around, no directions regarding where to park etc., seemed like a shady operation. The bathrooms on site are questionable. The photo package is a scam, they don't let you take your phone with you due to "liability" issues, which is another way of milking you out of money. They only let you go as far as some nearby ugly bridge, cannot see the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, or New York skyline, no pretty views around. Not worth the money at all. read more

This was quite an adventure. If you have any reservations at all about jetskiing in the Hudson, then I would listen to your gut and maybe not take part. Hudson River water is.... iffy... and it will get in your face, splash your eyes, and possibly land on or around your mouth. Wear sunglasses. I did and still got water in my eyes, it stings. The water terrain that you go through is also pretty choppy.There are many boats that go past. In fact, I found myself having to tell my jetski companion that we should probably wait for the giant Staten Island Ferry boat to go instead of trying to race past it. That being said, with the choppiness and all the wakes, you are bouncing up and down. But, if that doesn't faze you and the prospect of jetskiing past the Statue of Liberty excites you, you should definitely take part. However, that has nothing to do with Empire City Watersports as a company. They provide great jetskis and give you a brief training on them and safety before you head out onto the water. There is a guide who takes you out and you can spring for the photo package, where he will pause to take photos of you in front of all the waterfront landmarks. The service they provide is top notch, the one issue I had with the company is that I wish our guide had stayed a little bit closer to the group. read more

Very dissappointed with my experience. I live out of state and was surprising my boyfriend for this cool experience. I was literally 20min away from my reservation and they called and canceled due to weather. I appreciate them looking out for our safety so I told them I would call them back to reschedule. I called every day for 5 days and finally I had to fly back to my home state. When I finally got someone, they said sorry we don't do refunds only rescheduling. I explained to them that I've been trying to get ahold of them for 5 days and no answer, what do you do for people out of town? They didn't seem to care. There is no customer service at all! I had a Groupon voucher and booked a 1 hour trip in Brooklyn. I've got an email confirmation to come 30 min prior my scheduled trip. Amazing experience. We rented the jet ski for one hour and it was really fun. We went at 6.30 pm and had a great view of the sunset from the bay area. The staff is friendly and capable and they supervised us during the time we were out without interrupting but just making sure we were safe and in the safe area. So before you buy here check other companies or at least make sure you are not overpaying them. Great experience but too pricey for a simple tour and guides treating you like you are a kid when they have so many directions and they give you directions thinking you are going to hear them in the middle of the river with boats and the noise of other jets skies. Believe the reviews that comment how poor customer service is; utterly rude. Our tour guide was absolutely miserable, did not do any guiding, and practically yelled at guests with demanding instructions and if you didn't follow, he'd yell even more. Witnessed an asian couple get vehemently yelled at by this guy. When we were all set to dock back, the girl didn't turn engine off as he had asked because she misunderstood his instructions so he screamed at her like she was a piece of crap. It was disgusting. I wouldn't ever support this kind of business again. Also, we spent nearly $500 per person on the around manhattan tour quote to be 4 hours only to be done in 2 hours. All sped and rushed. My jet ski was the slowest of all no matter how much gas I gave it. Poor equipment. Not a single person tipped this man and left as soon as we docked back. Really nasty people. I was visiting from out of town and organized a group of my friends to get on this jetski tour around lower Manhattan, but was very disappointed with the services offered. We reserved 5 jet skis, arrived at the time stated in the email - 45 min before our scheduled tour time but didn't get on the water till 30 min after our scheduled tour. Our "guides" barely explained how to use the jet skis, told my bf and i to get on any jetski than after 10 min told us to get off the one we were on because it was off limits. First of all, the ride out to the Statue of Liberty is 30 long min, the guide left us behind, my bf and I were basically alone trying to catch up to the rest of the group. Ok, I had purchased a way overpriced picture package but figured it would be worth it because the memories would be amazing to have however got half ass service. While out in the water we had to keep reminding the guide to take our pic, first stop was Statue of Liberty, drove around on the skis for a bit but when we asked for a pic, the guide was signaling for the group to leave because we were being shooed away by the security from the Statue of Liberty. Then we stoped at a lower Manhattan, our guide proceeded to tell us to do a donut in the water while snapping our pic from his iPhone for "action shots" with the same background.. then we headed towards the Brooklyn bridge and when my friend asked for a pic, the guide said we were late and we had to rush back. We didn't even get to Ellis island, or manhattan bridge. Ok, we get back, i ask for my pics and he says he'll send them later on, it's been three days and still no pics. The guy I spoke to was really rude when I nicely told him I did NOT receive my pics and that I don't want them anymore since they were def not worth the 45$ for 50 pics of the same background. He said he didn't care whether I wanted them or not, that he was going to send them to me anyway and he was not refunding me any money. Awful!! I have never had such horrible customer service. First of all, a woman, who I guess was pretending to be a 'receptionist' behaved abominably. She was rude, she did not answer our questions, she took our passports away and said that she will not return them to us until the end of our tour (I am sorry but what?? These are our documents and you do not have the right to take them "to the safe" without our permission and warning about it!!). My friend and I were really scared! And finally, she charged us twice and did not let us do a refund. It was the first time ever a company charged me twice and did not return my money. If you want an adventure close to home, this is the place for you. I treated myself to the Statue of Liberty tour (90 minutes) for my birthday. I first heard about Empire on Groupon. It was worth it! The instructors were awesome. Few helpful hints: Wear sunglasses, it helps with the salt water. Give yourself plenty of time to get there. I live in NJ, Exit 136. It took me 30 minutes that morning (Goethals to Belt Pkway). It could have been longer if there was one accident on the Belt Parkway. Also check the website's FAQ page.
