Incompetent is the best way to describe this office location! Called to make an appt and confirm they accepted my insurance. Was scheduled to come in and after more than 3 weeks of waiting for my appointment, a 40 minute drive, I attest my appointment only to be told that they no longer accept my insurance. Their excuse, "we emailed you on 08/13 to advice that we were no longer in network." No accountability whatsoever. Email never got to me because they can't even spell basic words. I wish time travel was real so I could go back and un-visit this office. Big regrets choosing this place. It was complicated, unorganized, and confusing from the jump. The best thing I can say about it that the woman answering phones was very nice. Other than that - don't waste your time or money. There was zero communication about how to access my virtual appointment. Turns out, you only get information on how to join your appointment the literal moment the provider is ready. Once I had my appointment, the NP that I was talking to was quick to write me a Rx for a controlled substance. When I vocalized that I was really there to learn about the condition and coping skills other than medication, she quickly told me that coping skills weren't going to work and said I just need to take the pills. I understand that medication is necessary, and I'm ok with that. Sometimes it's the answer. But she offered me nothing when I asked for more. No recommendations for where I can learn more, or any other resources. Books to read, therapists to visit - nothing. She then told me I owe a $200 fee for my visit because my insurance didn't cover it (which it absolutely did). She insisted I pay then. I did but then found that they BILLED MY INSURANCE AND MY INSURANCE PAID THE $200 AS WELL. I've called multiple times asking to speak with someone regarding the issue and I get no where but a promise for a call back. And of course... no call back. Your patients are a particularly vulnerable population and this is how you treat them? Do better. read more

Outstanding services from the dr and the nurse practitioner. The only problems sometimes is the first point of contact which is the woman at the front so if you can work pass that you will not be disappointed at ,all! read more

There are not enough words to fully describe the value of Dr. Paulsen, Debbie Pottinger, and the whole staff (office staff, other mental health professionals) and the extraordinary impact they have had on my life. When I say, that my life was saved by the staff of Rockdale Psychiatrics, is not hyperbole. Dr. Paulsen has and continues to be ray of sunshine in the darkest of days. She is a skilled professional whose intellect and integrity astounds me. Having "book smarts" is great but what makes Dr. Paulsen stand out is that she is genuinely intuitive and compassionate. I am thankful that she is in my world, no....in our world. If you need help and prepared to do the work (and trust me...it's not always easy), Dr. Paulsen is 100% the practitioner you need to see. I have had my moments that I had to wait. However, it's worth the wait. Would you rather have someone take the time to build a relationship with you or someone that writes you prescriptions and you are out the door? Highly advise looking elsewhere! Tried for 3 weeks to get an appointment - even had my doctor forward my records there only to receive a call giving misinformation about the records sent - stating I was a current pt asking for records to be sent elsewhere - Clearly not paying attention! I left multiple messages with a rude call center as well as on appointment line with no return calls. Very disappointed in the way the office handles this. I have been in a medical customer service setting for 25 years and this is awful! Not a way to build a practice! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Paulsens for the past 15 years. This office has never changed. The long waits...having to wait way past your appointment time to be seen has ALWAYS been an issue. There hasn't always been a nurse practitioner there, but I believe the reason Denise (the nurse practitioner) is there now is because Dr. Paulsen is always (for some reason) so incredibly backed up. My prescriptions have been written up for the wrong dosage before, and they have forgotten to even write the dosage and/or quantity on the prescription..and I had to make an extra trip back to the office (and not to mention, having to wait however long) because THEY messed up. Why should I think to check my prescription before I leave? I'm the patient, right? The ONLY thing/people worth a damn in that entire office is Karen (the receptionist up front) and Karen (that works in the back) read more

This office is horribly run and the doc herself is a big letdown. The first appointment we made, we waited an HOUR AND A HALF past the appointment time to be seen, at which point my son was seen by a nurse practitioner instead of the psychiatrist with whom we'd scheduled an appointment. I asked for the doctor, who finally came in and asked my son to fill out three pages of forms to tell her about his feelings while she sat there and waited. (If privacy was her concern, I offered to wait outside. She declined.) After he was done, she read them and she asked me if I was "aware" that my son "reported being irritable at times," to which I felt like saying "DUH. He's 13 and he's been sitting an HOUR and a HALF waiting for you! Hell, I'm irritable, doofus!" She then wrote a prescription for the WRONG DOSE of my son's meds. When I discovered the error at home and called the office, they said he needed to be seen again (by a nurse practitioner--what *psychiatrist* lets an NP see her patients in absence of any supervision!?!??). But the kid needed his meds and getting in with another doc was going to take 5 months, so I brought him BACK out to see a nurse practitioner, for whom we waited an HOUR past the appointment time...again. I asked to see the doctor herself this time, but was told by the receptionist that she "didn't want to put him on the doctor's schedule (instead of the nurse's) because "the doctor has to leave early on a lot of afternoons" and might MISS OUR APPOINTMENT. WTF??!! Don't waste your time here! They have NO CLUE. read more

Over the past couple of years, Dr Paulsen and Denise have helped me through some of the worst times of my life. If it weren't for them I genuinely don't think I'd be here today. They listen. They've shared their own life experiences so I don't feel alone when I share how I feel. And they've gone the extra mile to get to the root of the problem. If I could give this place a negative star I would. So I returned a phone call today and spoke with Denise at Rockdale Psychiatric Office regarding my sister's paperwork for SSI. Denise asked for a fax number to get assistance in completing more paper work that another Associate and I had already agreed last week was no longer need in order to expedite my sister's already prolonged SSI application. When I asked why this paper work and fax number was needed, Denise displayed an attitude and hung up on me. I called back twice, spoke with Kathy and asked to speak with whoever hung up on me, Kathy stated Denise was the person, she was currently unavailable to speak with me, but was just trying to explain the paperwork to me and get a fax number (5 minutes after the incident) - basically justify her co-worker being unprofessional. Completely inexcusable! I expected better from Dr. Paulsen's office and her staff. I'm sure it will take a week now to get the "much needed" paperwork. read more
