If I could give them no stars I would. I literally started to cry when I saw my boyfriends hair cut. I waited in the car with our daughter as he went inside to cut his hair with his brother. My boyfriend left extremely unsatisfied with the way the barber cut his hair. He had no idea what he was doing and seemed to lack the common sense of giving a person a haircut. The haircut was not symmetrical and he didn't blend the fade (asked for a skin fade that faded into a 1). Save yourself the hassle and DO NOT COME HERE. The Rockefeller Barbershop was a dream made true by the original owner. He had a fantastic concept for the first, walk in off the street, downtown barbershop in Cleveland. Prior to its existance, the only downtown shops were hidden away in big buildings. One would not know unless one worked there, or were referred. John Laurie found the old side entrance to the Rockefeller building and saw a downtown shop! He had his own family barber and styling shop in the suburbs for over 20 years. He was excited! He loved the city he came from. Loved the people. And LOVED Indians baseball. He was a great hair artist, as well as father, friend, and husband. His vision was a shop for everyone. No matter who you were. Everybody was welcome. And he trained and had trained with the best of the best barbers all around. The Metzger brothers. Craig Scheffer, and Donna Sutton. Donna is still there if I'm correct. Combined they had over 150 years in the business and were known as the best ones in the city. Much respect to his vision, his legend and his guidance. His vibe might not still be there, but I guarantee that his heart and soul still exists. And may every barber that gets to work in that space contribute to the people the same quality of work and commitment that made his dream become reality. read more

Tried to walk in and they said I needed an appointment, when their sign clearly states no appointment needed. They said they couldn't take me as they were "too busy" with two people in chairs and no one waiting. So, I made an appointment for the following day. I called ahead to see if they were able to move my appointment around and were very unaccommodating. Didn't care that I canceled my appointment and didn't work with me to try to find a time that would work. Will not be giving them my business ever. read more

I have been going to Rockefeller Barbers for more than 13 years. It started as a convenience, right across from my office, but turned into a "long term relationship."Craig was such a great guy and I looked forward to chatting with him to talk about his former shows and his trips to South Dakota to see his family and hunt. I have found that Nick is equally as enjoyable to chat with...I do find the stories are nothing like Craig's though...LOL! I will be retiring from my job soon, God willing, and will continue to make the trip downtown to get my haircut... I recommend YELP add a sixth star! read more

Good location on W 6th so you can either stop in at work during the week or it's really convenient for anyone who lives down town. They even have Saturday hours which was a very unexpected surprise. Two things will keep me coming back. If any of these change, we might have issues: 1) The barbers seem to all strike that perfect balance of "I'll talk to you if you want, but if you're not in the mood, we can do the tough-guy no-talking act and just make this transactional" Nothing is worse than a chatty barber when you're just exhausted and want to take a nap 2) They practice the lost art of hot shaving cream to cut the hair on the back of your neck. Even if you regularly are in the tough-guy no-talking mood you know this is really why you go to the barber instead of Great Clips As a note, I noticed that, on yelp, many barbers in Cleveland seem to have incredibly high ratings (4.5 or 5). I don't want to do this place a disservice by giving it a 4... but if you all love your barber's that much you've got issues. read more

I called up on a Saturday morning, Nick answered, and said he could get me in thirty minutes later. I showed up, sat down, told him what I wanted, and he went to work, giving me the best *man's* haircut I've had in years. My wife has had me going to these salons and stylists for a long time, and not only is it stocked full of gossip and fake smiles, but it costs an arm and a leg for a haircut that makes me feel like I gave up a testicle along with the hair I just lost. If you're a man, you want a great haircut in a short amount of time, and you'd rather sit in silence or talk sports than chit-chat about your emotions and the he-said-she-said nonsense, this is your place. Nick was very friendly and the cut was well done. He even stayed late when i called last minute. The place is kinda a closet and could probably use a face lift but I'm guessing then it wouldn't be so dang cheap and I guess that it part of the charm. I was around 6th street and in dire need of a haircut, so I decided to stop into Rockefeller since the yelp reviews seemed pleasant. I was dreading the downtown parking, but here's a little hint: if you take a right-hand turn on the city block where their shop is located, there's plenty of street parking. I mention this because I know there's a yelper out there that's probably a little hesitant about making a drive downtown. Ray was my barber today and he provided me with a fantastic clipper/scissor cut on my long-overdue bed-head. I feel like I was given the 'spa treatment' for one of the most reasonable priced haircuts in the area! In contrast, the shop has that old 20th century charm and caters to a wide variety of average joe's (that's me) and the 'suits' that need a mid-morning cleanup. The reason the group was diverse? This was my first time here and Ryan was my barber. Ryan was a professional and asked me more than 4 times during the haircut if I liked it and asked for my opinions and followed up with his own recommendations. I had been referred here by a friend. Sat down and a guy starts to cut my hair. He is taking forever and does not seem like he knows what he is doing. Finally I ask the barber next to me to help him out and he was able to salvage it somewhat but my hair still looked like garbage. WORST experience I have ever had going to the barber. Previous reviews say that they finally fired the bad guy. I don't know if he was the one I got or not but the bottom line is if they know he sucks, they shouldn't let him cut anyone's hair. I love this place. It's an old school barber shop just like your parents went to but the barbers are skilled and pretty much do anything you need. I'm a simple and easy buzz so I always appreciate that they can fit me in. Call ahead if you can as it gets busy over lunch on weekdays. Highly recommend!!! read more

Let me preface this by saying I got a Yelp account because I was that dissatisfied with my haircut. I'll keep it brief.. -customer service was good, the lady who greeted me was very nice. -cool, and genuine barber shop feel. -they do have hot towels that come with a cut which is a nice touch. Now the ugly. Unfortunately I did not get my haircut by Joe or Nick-who seem to be the top choice. I had another guy who gave me probably the worst haircut I've ever had. He failed to listen to me say nothing off the top, and that I wanted a FADE not a BOWL cut. Instead I ended up with very short hair on top, and stair-stepped hair on the side. Again, I don't want to mention specific names, but if you're going here it seems like you should make sure you get Nick or Joe or you will be having to make another stop to get your hair properly blended. read more

Today I celebrated a promotion at work with a man's style spa day. If you have never had a classic, and classy, barbershop cut this is a great place to get your first. If you are a seasoned vet, one try and you may find you have a new go-to. The basic haircut is fantastic with all of the classic "extras" (hot lather neck shave, scalp massage, and hot towel facial). What really sold this place for me was the attention to detail. Ray is the barber whom I trusted with my cut and he didn't disappoint even going as far as noticing that my part had been put on the wrong side by some *cough*cough* high end salons for years. The piece de resistance was the, new to me, "beard fade" which I has never seen. With short sides to my hair I usually struggled to make it work with my beard, but no more! Great place to get a haircut. $15, can you do any better? When you live in Cleveland you are looking for an edge and Rockefeller gives it to you. There isn't much in Cleveland to get excited over but to be honest - you feel like a million bucks about your hair after a stop here. Actually is a great staff. I go to Donna, she's excellent. Knows what she's doing and cool to talk to. I would suggest a visit. No happy endings but they do the hot towel shit and it feels amazing. read more

Joe gave me a great haircut, a great beard trim, and a great conversation to boot. He even took a straight razor to the back of my neck to polish it off. Craig (the older barber) only uses clippers, but did a nice job and made some changes that I requested. The shop itself is pretty sparse, but you probably aren't going to a barbershop on W. 6th for the ambiance. I have long hair and went to Donna for a hair cut some 5+ years ago. I had gone to a female barber for years out of state, and when I found Donna, I was thrilled. She's got extensive experience with women and men's hair, and is a consummate professional. The shop is extremely clean, and I'm impressed at the steps that are taken to insure that the tools used on me are clean. I don't see this level of cleanliness at most women's hair salons. If you're looking for someone awesome, then Donna is the one for you! read more

Despite being advised by associates not to get a haircut at Rockefeller, I went against my better judgement simply due to the convenance of living downtown Cleveland . I dropped in for a simple, standard haircut and walked out with the worst haircut I have received in over 15 years.. You know it's bad when a barber doesn't offer you the chance to look at the cut but instead just removes the cape???? After getting home and taking a look, I will be needing another haircut tomorrow in order to get this to resemble a normal haircut. I am extremely disappointed that a barber could fail with such a basic cut so badly. Never again..!!! I will get in my car and drive the 10 miles out of town!! read more
