I like this Publix! Although it has dedicated free parking in the parking garage across the street,…read moreto the south of it, pro tip - you can almost always find a spot on the small-ish lot on the north side of the store. I've frequented this store a lot pre-C-19, when my sorority sisters got together every Wednesday around the corner, in 5 Points, for a meal and to "solve the world's problems." I always counted on this Publix to pick up something I forgot or was told we needed to complete our dinner. Items like a greeting card, a gift card or helium balloon, a bottle of vino, cheese, cupcakes, or salad mix and dressing. The associates are always friendly and helpful here, but isn't it like that at all Publix stores? I've never found the checkout lines to be too long. Why no 5th star? This is really not this Publix's fault: overall this store has a small footprint and that means a decrease in selection, or "a tightly edited selection" of produce, wine, dairy, and meats. This Publix truly is a nice addition to the Twickenham area!

It's clean, the staff are nice (is someone really giving them one star because OMG they don't have a particular brand of sugar free cream soda like that is their fault?!), the produce is better than some I've seen, and the parking is free. Bonus: I've found their flowers/plants to be in better shape than other stores' wares.

Star was my 'go to' for convenience when I lived around the corner on Ward Avenue in 5 Points…read more Then, it was a great place to pick up a last minute item ranging from almost everything from soap to soup. Moving on a little bit, pre-COVID my sorority sister's weekly Wednesday evening get together was held just around the corner in 5 Points and nearly every week I popped in to Star Market for an item to round out our "girls night out" meal - always adding on a Terry's pizza (pepperoni) as take out for the hubs. On some occasions we would cook at sister's house and need an item such as premixed salad to complete the meal du jour, or sometimes we would pick up dinner "to go" at Ted's BBQ next door and a sister would request an appetizer like cheese and crackers which I would pick up from Star. Star is a local grocery store, meaning smallish in terms of physical size and stock when compared to something like Kroger or Publix. However, they are renowned for their meat/butcher section. They have some good "grab and go items" I think we got black eye peas on several occasions; they have a nice wine selection -they carry Simply Naked unoaked pinot grigio AND (I may be wrong about this ) Simply Naked unoaked chardonnay. Both varietals are a good price and even when stocked in the middle of the aisle have a nice chill. These are an inexpensive, decent wine, at a great price point. Don't stop there, Star carries an extensive variety of reds/whites - so a convenient wine "score" for our get togethers. Star has a bakery and a good selection of bakery items. I do not eat sweets and had to pick up last minute cupcakes as we girls were celebrating a birthday - grabbed some from the deli case all set to go and my sorority sister's were not happy with them proclaiming them "dry and stale." I didn't bother returning them to Star, however if I lived closer I would have and I'm certain they would have refunded the cost of the cupcakes. At least they were cute to look at with little plastic fake children's rings adorning each cupcake. :) Pros about Star: I love their friendly staff and the fact that they do not allow their employees to use cell phones while working. The staff are always friendly and helpful in offering to help you to your car with your groceries (except the one time a bottle of wine of mine was bagged poorly and broke in the parking lot - darn it.) They carry "specialty items" (my words not theirs) that you can't find in your big box grocery stores. For example, we love "Bishop's 3 'N' 1 Stuff Bar-B-Que Sauce" and guess what, Star has that! I can't find it anywhere else in Madison county. My sorority sister from TX stocks up on either a jam/jelly or specialty honey that she and her Daddy *adore* on biscuits when she is in town, specifically from Star. Thanks Star for stocking these items! Cons about Star: the parking lot. Good lawd, this parking lot has tiny spaces and is cramped with poorly designed entrance/exit points. I cannot count the times I've nearly missed (thankfully) an accident in the parking lot. Pro tip: park at 1892 restaurant or the adjacent laundry mat and make a quick walk to Star for better parking options. The other con is the price. Star is more expensive than say, Publix or Kroger - for me, it would never be a place I would be happy to obtain my weekly groceries due to how expensive most items are. Get yourself to Star for their excellent butcher, meat selection, well trained staff and specialty items and don't forget to get a baked or "take and bake" Terry's pizza - enjoy a slice of Huntsville!

She leaned against me and slid her items into the end of mine all the time talking to me & the cashier?? I wondered why my bill was so much higher but I had my granddaughters with me, and was distracted by this woman and wanted to go home. Next morning I checked my receipt & she had slid over $30.00 worth of items onto the tale end of my check out!!!!!!! When I went to the store and explained they said the person to check that, including the camera footage didn't come in until 3 hours from then. Took my receipt bro & my name & number. 3 hours later I went to the store and met the person in charge who said that after reviewing the tape since I was talking to the lady it looked like I had "gifted" this stranger????? I did not, and she made it clear that she did NOT believe me!!!! She very sourly agreed to refund me after I protested & was not leaving. Shame on you, Angela!!!!! I am elderly and still hav to work part time to survive. I am still angry enough to find a way to complain about YOU personally. Been going to same location for over 30 years, at least twice a week. Not anymore.

The entrance closest to the garden center did not have wipes to clean the shopping cart handle. As we walk in I notice two Walmart employees blocking an aisle to prevent access. That seemed odd. We walked over to where the eye drops are located. I was surprised to see the shelves were not fully stocked. Hubs picked out his drops and we were off to the food section. I notice Walmart is slowly removing name brand goods and stocking their store bran, Great Value, more often. I will remind myself to buy French mustard elsewhere. This Walmart used to sell it. The pasta I used to buy here also has to be purchased at a different store. The produce wasn't as fresh as I would like so I only bought a few things. The frozen vegetables were stocked and I did pick up a few packages I needed. Overall going to this store to shop for food would be a deal breaker. If I needed home goods or kitchen small appliances I would come back.

This particular Publix is one of the smaller stores. Not as much variety but still, most everything I need. And so very convenient. The problem is that I have to check the date on every single item that I buy. Milk, of course. Yogurt too. (Last week I found Activia that expired several days prior). But hot chocolate mix? (No joke - it had expired several months prior). Baby food? Expired. Nothing goes into my cart without a verification of the expiration date. I'm not the only person looking at dates - I've seen several customers bring expired items to the registers. It happens regularly. I don't know why this particular store has such problems with outdated product on their shelves. Just be aware.

There is ample staff, but they don't really engage the customer as much as other Publix employees do. It's clean, well-organized, and has ample parking with a few covered patio style tables out front if you want to enjoy a salad or other deli item on site. The check-out lines are fairly well staff and the check-out personnel are friendly and kind. It's a nice Publix as generally, all Publix are!
