Yea nothing like a Rock Harbor sunset. Sometimes if you time it right you catch the sport fishing…read morefleet coming in before or just after the tide change with super happy anglers and filled fishing boxes. The site of these boats against the western sky and the pine tree lined entrance way to Rock Harbor from Cape Cod Bay is really memorable. Some broken clouds that offer the best sunset in the west, maybe a touch of haze in July and wait the rare opportunity when the tide is way out so there are miles of wet and salty newly created beach-front that offer up some serious sunset hiking. And then............there is the famous, never to be denied, discussed never in public Rock Harbor sunset cocktail members. Not that this is a club but you can pretty much walk by the first row closest to the beach and watch the perfect martini being poured in the passenger seat.. A little music, a little alcohol who knows ....a little magic back at the cottage. Rock Harbor sunset viewing is an Orleans tradition. Mostly attended by the more experienced or should I say retired. But it does catch on and as the tourist season picks up the gathering brings down the average age into the just after college category...and especially if the tide is out. So bring your cooler, kids, frisbee (no dogs in season ..too bad) and a definite is a camera. I'm thinking the perfect accesory is the a 12v powered margarita machine that helps put the evening over the top.

Great @ low tide. So many endless views and sand gets really colorful and u can walk for miles.read more

We visited Coast Guard Beach on a Sunday, for the morning and early afternoon. We parked at 8:50am,…read morethe trolley was there waiting but we decided to walk the 1 mile path to the beach. It was a nice walk, altho for the 1st half it was wooded and the ground a bit dirty so i should have worn sneakers vs flip flops. The later part is paved and a boardwalk which was pretty. We took the trolley back and it was fast and easy. There are bathrooms at the main parking area as well as at the closest beach parking (resident only). Bathroom was clean and was being cleaned while we were there. The beach is huge especially at low tide. The surf was rough with endless seals swimming by and a shark flag waving. Water a bit cold. We walked 1 mile south during low tide and enjoyed all the tide pools and different shapes created in the sand by the water. We also walked a half mile north and it is very quiet except for the spot next to the entrance. Peaceful and reminded us of being on an island as it was so quiet with not many people around, and unique scenery. Bring your own everything as there is no snack shack.

This is a beautiful beach! Nice soft white sand, dunes without having to hike down a huge hill as…read moreyou do on many other beaches. There is a mobimat that leads to the beach. There are some nice walkways to lookouts over the ocean and the marsh, and also a bike path that leads to Nauset. It can be a bit buggy on those walkways due to the marsh just fyi. There's tons of accessible parking. In fact it's only accessible and resident parking available at the lot right by the beach. My only complaint is that while there's lots of accessible parking, the lot is pretty far away from the entrance to the beach. As someone who can walk, but not for longer distances without a break, it's a bit frustrating. I wish there was at least a drop off point, but there's only a sign that reads "no drop offs at anytime. I've read they have beach wheelchairs in season, but there were none available at the time I was there.
