"Fawlty Towers, Monty Python or Rocking Horse Pub??
Sunday 22nd July 2012 - Names changed to protect the innocent!
Set the scene:
Four of us arrived and ordered drinks, Lindy Lou and Rolf arrived and ordered drinks.. this is when the 'fun' began. The waitress brought 2 pints of beer and tripped/fell when extremely close to the table. Glasses crashed into the table and beer everywhere. The waitress was nearly in tears but we all were more concerned that she was ok.
She left and eventually came back with a couple of small cloths to wipe up; beer is still swilling on the table and across the floor, cutlery, napkins, table and two chairs soaked.
No sign of the waitress no drinks brought to replace the two that were now less than 1/2 pints. Two other guests arrive and before they could sit down we suggested they change the chairs, this was done but they couldn't get close to the table as blah, blah, blah.
Lindy Lou asked someone at the bar if she could have her drink replaced. A 1/2 pint was brought just for her, poor Rolf just drank his small beer. Our new guest Janet, went again to the bar to ask for a cloth herself and another waitress came back quickly wiped the table and reported 'there's not much I can do about that" - the floor.
Original waitress came back and did take the new guests order for drinks. - Perhaps we can order now..
The orders were given and in good style the waitress didn't write anything down (don't forget there are 8 of us). She repeated it back and perhaps remembered one correctly. All the orders were input onto the computer and she relayed back to us what she had typed in, again wrong, wrong, wrong. I cannot believe that we were all still being very nice and 'Canadian' about this.
The meals were brought and only one mistake - salad instead of fries - plate of fries arrived when meal was nearly over... we kept on wondering where the camera was.
We ate - the food was not too bad and so that was good. Our last two guests Janet and her friend had had enough, so they paid and were going. Lindy Lou and Rolf also wanted to make a hasty retreat. So they asked for the bill. The bill was brought and guess what it was wrong, the waitress apologized again and made it right. Rolf paid at the table with his debit card....took his card when transaction approved... The machine stopped working..."the batteries have gone..." can't print off the receipt... Rolf and Lindy Lou left quickly.
Myself, hubby, Trish and Jimmy decided to stay awhile and talk. Ten minutes later we decided to go and pay.... Jimmy's bill was wrong, apologies blah, blah, blah.. Jimmy paid and then the waitress said " your friend's card was declined." My husband said that would be very unusual, but agreed to pay Rolf's on our bill.
We took the declined receipt (so we could show Rolf) and then left. (Nobody in our group was given a correct food bill to take away, isn't that against the law in Canada?)
We sent Rolf an email telling him about his bill and after checking his bank account; guess what it had gone through.
My husband called the Rocking Horse the following day and the owner said if we showed her proof that it had gone off his bank account she would sort it out.
We asked for a printout from Rolf and one was provided. We took it to the pub only to be told the owner was out and that we should have made an appointment. Only the daughter was in and she wouldn't even come downstairs to speak. I lost my temper (which of course didn't help) and we left only to come back at 8:30pm.
The following day my husband called again and was told by the owner that we had to get proof of which account it had gone into as it had not gone into the Rocking Horse account...Now you have to wonder where this money has disappeared to, if I was the owner I would be concerned that some monies are 'disappearing'.
The next day my husband called again and said that it had gone through our friend's account and started to say perhaps she should be worried that this could be happening to other monies, but before he managed to say it her reply was 'its not gone into my account and that's the end of it - what is wrong with you people!!' The amount in question is $57.21 ... now it is the principle. " read more
