Updating since my review in August 2020. They took excellent care of our Aussie shepherd through her congestive heart failure and passing (even calling us with condolences after she passed at a different veterinary hospital), and also took excellent care of our pit bull mix as he got older. He usually saw Dr. Plymouth at his appointments, and it was Dr. Hutchinson who was with us for his euthanasia. Both were kind, compassionate, thorough in their examinations, and honest about our options. The vet techs and administrative staff are fantastic as well. It may be some time before we are ready to adopt another dog, but there's no question about where we will go for vet care. read more

After my last experience here I will never return. Here's my story. It's a long one. I've been coming here for 20+ years, Dr. Rubin is great, however she sold the practice to Heart & Paws & it's gone way downhill since. I loved her care. Also the vet tech Sarah has been amazing with my cats. They are the only two reasons I would consider going there again, but I won't. My cat Samantha had been having issues for about 1/2 year or so, Blood tests have been normal, but she had an ongoing drinking/peeing problem & was losing weight. Otherwise she was fine. She very recently gradually ate less & a day after she stopped completely I bought her in . They ran some tests & Dr. Hutchinson called me back the following day. The first words out of her mouth were "your cat is weird" . Her tests were fine. She called back a few hours later to tell me that indeed wasn't the case, blaming it on the tech who gave her the wrong results. It didn't look good .& she wanted me to bring her back in for IV. fluids, an appetite stimulant, etc. I asked if I could pick up the fluids and administer then at home because I had done it before. She agreed. When I went to pick them up she didn't leave instructions as to dosage. When I asked someone went to speak to a doctor(I think Dr. H had gone for the day at this point) . The person said someone will call you first thing in the morning. They open @ 8;30. I never was called. Strike three. I called a couple hours later & Sarah was kind enough to get me the info. I also wanted to bring her in the following Monday for what I imagined would be her last minutes alive. I had been through that heartbreaking procedure twice there in the past. I wanted to make an appointment, and was told that someone would call me Monday morning to set it up. Never got it and had to call. They told me they couldn't fit her in until Thursday & if she got worse to call back. She did early the next morning & I did. Made appointment for 4:30, but she died in my lap on the way there(another long story. I'll spare you the details). The preceding Saturday when I called to get the dosage, I told Sarah I was displeased with Dr. H & she said she would put me through to Deborah who was in charge. I told her that Dr. H "called my cat weird". She laughed & said that Dr. Hutchinson is a great doctor. That may be, but I beg to differ(see above paragraph) Also, my last two visits were deemed emergencies because they had to squeeze her in. I was charged $135 for the second visit, but the regular fee the first time. When i questioned it I was asked what time did I bring her in. Both times it was a little after 4. I was the told that the doctor had to stay overtime & that I should've been charged for an emergency visit both times. I don't understand why a doctor had to work overtime if they close at 6. I'm sure many have been given great care here & love Dr. Hutchinson. That was not my experience at all. I found her to be very unprofessional. I know that had Dr. Rubin been available( she remains there, but only two days a week) none of this would've happened. read more

Rockledge Vet is the absolute best. Both cats pictured are rescues and ready sick rescues. Our first Flash came to us with worms that were relentless, dehydrated from the worms and covered in fleas. How he survived living on the street malnourished, 6 wks old is a miracle. Then we rescued Hercules who was about 9 months old living inside a wall. After his initial check up we found out he had heartworm. Recovered but then developed asthma in the last year and on an inhaler for the rest of his life after months of antibiotics, steroids and a few tests. They take the time to know you and your pet. We have moved over 30 mins away but I will not change our vet. Staff is great, techs are wonderful and Dr Carrie is awesome. Hands down best vet in the area. My other cats I used Rau which was the worst decision I ever made for my other cats. Rockledge Vet is the best!! read more

I have been going to Rockledge Veterinary Clinic for about 15 years with my two dogs, an inherited chihuahua poodle mix and my golden doodle, both now over 15 years old. Although the practice has changed hands from Francie Rubin, the care and compassion has not been affected. I had to put down my beloved Loki, the golden, two days before Christmas due to a rare skin cancer which Dr Madison Johnson was so helpful in making her as comfortable as possible and reaching out to me to see how she was doing. I dreaded being there when she passed but couldn't bear to leave her alone when this was happening. The care and compassion from Dr. Hutchinson and the team that day was beyond anything I anticipated. They were wonderful as always. I can't say enough about their compassion and excellent care Loki and Lu have received over the years. read more

At one time, Rockledge was a great vet and I would have enthusiastically recommended. Now that heart + paw has taken over, this is the absolute worst vet I've ever been to in my entire life and I would suggest you run, not walk away. My husband brought my puppy in for a new puppy check up in September. I sent my husband with our puppies vaccine record from the breeders vet showing our puppy had just had a round of vaccines less than two weeks prior to this visit. My husband was told our puppy needed booster vaccines that day and he obliged as he didn't know any better and trusted the vet. Big mistake. Boosters should not be given until 4 weeks after the previous round. They also tried to schedule my puppy for another round of boosters less than 3 weeks after that. At that point, I cancelled the appointment and decided to find another vet. My husband also provided a stool sample on that day which was Sept 13th. We never heard back from them so we assumed everything was fine. Fast forward to today, Oct 13th and I received an email of the test result that my puppy tested positive for Giardia. This is a common parasite in puppies, however, medication is needed and should have been provided right away! Debra Politz, the new director, claims a voicemail was left for me. It was not, I do not delete voice messages and still have voice messages from a year ago from this vet about my previous dog that passed away. Additionally, a follow up email should have been sent along with the test results when they were received A MONTH AGO! It never was. Debra was very condescending in her text messages and really has no business is a customer service position. I basically would have never known about this parasite had I not requested my dogs stool sample result. The fact that the director will lie speaks volumes about this place and what an absolute disaster it is. They do not care about your beloved pet. They only care about the almighty dollar. read more

this place does not care about animals - they care about money (if I had the option to not give this place any stars I would the only reason why they even have one star is so I could leave a review) the vets are pretty nice but some of the staff is just plain rude. the way they speak to you over the phone is unacceptable. the one receptionist I would continuously have to speak with was one of the nastiest girls I've ever spoken to. Our dog had a seizure (spoiler alert, he's perfectly fine), but his normal vet didn't take walk-in appointments. We were scared beyond belief so we started looking for another vet that could squeeze him in. Rockledge said they were booked but when we told them what was going on, they put the call on hold then came back and said Dr. Brice would squeeze us in. We were so happy. Dr. Brice could tell we were nervous, so he explained everything going on and what to expect. He put us (and our dog) at ease the whole time while examining him and running tests. In the end, our dog was fine - it was an isolated incident. I'm grateful for everyone there for squeezing us in and making sure he was healthy. We have since made the decision that Rockledge will now be our vet from here on out. read more

We called Rockledge for an emergency with our cat- we had been to the ER twice over the past month at VSEC and hadn't switched care from our downtown vet yet. The vet called us back really quickly and did essentially a televisit with my husband over the phone and helped us immensely. That's really amazing to go above and beyond for someone who isn't even yet your patient. My review is far from unbiased. Fancie Rubin is simply a wonderful person who chose to become a vet. Through the years (coming up to 20!) Fran and her staff have given our feline overloads care befitting their august status. One guy was either hit by a car or abused by unknown people and the professionals at Rockledge were so nice about helping us take care of him. Fran had to put him down when I made a mistake in his care - but he was not long for the world anyway. The support of Dr. Rubin and staff helped us to keep him alive as long as we did with decent quality of life. Currently another feline overlord, a fellow in late middle age at just 16 is suffering from a chronic disease that has no good outcome. The staff at Rockledge have taught me techniques to help make his remaining time as good as possible and Dr. Rubin has used eclectic treatment ideas from administering fluids, to Chinese herbal medicine to experimental medications. So far we have gotten almost 1 year past the diagnosis and he is still doing ok with minimal problems - thanks to good care and good support. You could do much worse then Frannie and I don't see how you could do much better! read more

I can't say enough about doctor Francie Rubin and her staff at the Rockledge Veterinary Clinic. They take a very natural approach to helping animals and feel very strongly about proper nutrition as well as the fears of over medicating. I've been in countless times and everyone is friendly, professional, and there really is a sort of "home" feel to the place. I think this goes a long way at putting the pets at ease when they come in. I was most impressed with a few small things, which isn't it always the small things that make or break an experience....First was on a weekend morning when I had an emergency and had to go to a Pet ER. Seemingly like magic, the doctor called to check in and make sure the ER was doing all they could for me. Second, was the hand written note of thanks I just received for referring my Uncle to them. Wow what difference. From just walking in the door you are given the impression that the employees here care about the comfort of not only the animals but the owners as well. With a small flat screen in lobby and the absence of a huge product sales area you feel more like you are there for your animals health rather than be pressured in to buying stuff. The reception staff are friendly and patient even when my little guy was being his obnoxious self and barking up a storm. They were letting a few cats, one who had definitely had a procedure of some sort done roam freely. These two cats were calm as cucumbers and couldn't care one single bit about the barking. Upon seeing our issue with the barking one of the receptionist even offered us the name and number of a behaviorist that they use. Sweet! On to the exam room and doctor. The room itself was clean, good size and has inviting aptly pet themed decor. The exam table has a built in scale so no having to parade our little barker to another room to get to get on the scale. Dr. Jones came in and cheerily introduced herself. After a thorough physical check over she patiently listened to our barrage of questions and concerns to which she gave us very informed recommendations and honest answers. So after a quick blood test and clean bill of health we were on our way. Not even 24 hours later we received a confirmation call from the doctor that the fecal sample tests came back clean. So I am pretty sure we will not have to search any further for a great vet to care for our pup! read more

We had a wonderful experience here. You can tell all of the staff truly loves animals and they were very gentle and kind to our cat. We brought our cat in because she was pulling out her fur, and I was nervous that they would chalk it up to anxiety and put her on medication- but they didn't! They are also more holisitic, so they told us which shots she should get (like the rabies shot) and which ones were unnecessary. Rockledge Veterinary Clinic is amazing! I've been going here since September 2007 when I got my puppy. Being a first-time dog owner was actually a little overwhelming since I went with the most energetic pup i've ever seen. Dr. Hutchinson was the first vet that my dog and I met together and she was awesome. She treats you as though you were a close friend and talks to both you and your pet like you've known each other for years. I got my dog fixed at 6 months and there was a slight complication afterwards with her stitches. Never having gone through that kind of thing before, I of course got very nervous. When I called in, they were very comforting and assured me that they would be able to take care of my dog. They were right of course and after a simple procedure, Maddie was fine. I would highly recommend taking your pet to this office. The staff here is probably the most friendly and helpful of any business I've ever encountered. read more

I adopted a senior cat last year, & needed to bring him to the vet for what seemed like a respiratory infection a few months back, so I chose Rockledge, as it's convenient for me to get to, & the reviews seemed promising. My boy was well taken care of, & the cost of the visit/ medication was reasonable. Dr. Marcucci also explained to me that they are not pushers for medicating animals just for the sake of medicating, which I admire. Just recently, he's had another health issue come up, which we are currently trying to figure out, & there's no where I'd rather be than at Rockledge. I don't remember all the names of the people who have been so helpful to me over the past few days, but Dr. Betty & her team have been phenomenal. Amidst this very stressful & trying time for me, everyone has showed support and guidance, from the technicians (Mary, being a name & face I do remember) to the women at the front desk. I drove here from Center City on advice from a vet friend who takes her dog here. My first pet, I was distressed at the salivary gland bumps on my puppy's cheeks and the vet near me was not responding; even 3 weeks later I am still waiting for the cytology report. Rockledge responded immediately, and took Bodhi in same day, a late Friday afternoon. The doctor, Francie Rubin, DVM, understood my concern, knew what it was and that it would go away; she took time to listen to me and get to know me and my puppy. The staff at the desk was very kind; they gave me a blanket for Bodhi because he threw up twice on his in the car, they referred me to a dog shop up the street for a car harness. I had left my bag behind at the clinic when I was at the dog store and Kathy from the clinic drove the bag up to the store for me. It had been a very stressful and confusing week for me, and Dr. Rubin and her excellent, experienced staff at the front desk helped me through. And anybody who goes out to a Hopi Indian reservations annually to volunteer for their animals is very caring and cool. I am humbled and happy to make Rockledge Vet Clinic Bodhi's home for good health. I would also like to add that the packet they gave me was useful information for people like me that knew nothing about dogs when getting a first puppy, info about safety, food, traveling tips, how to choose insurance, etc., thoughtful things. read more

I've taken my dog here her whole life (10 years)!!!!!! We were on vacation a month ago & she got really sick out of nowhere we took her to a vet that told us she had cancer throughout her body...mind you I had a tumor removed here 7 months before at rockledge & was told it was all removed with no worries going forward! Okay now I get it cancer spreads that's not my issue, my issue was we left the next day & called to have her put down they told me 5:30!!!! I told the appointment by the time I got home she was suffering Thai was at 10! I called & asked plz get her in ASAP & was told no 5:30!!!! I couldn't watch the poor thing suffer anymore so I took her to an emergency vet who was wonderful they took her rite away so while I'm waiting to take her in I called rockledge to let them know I no longer needed the appointment & the girl at the front desk said to me "well she isn't deceased yet so let's keep it" I was appalled & said no she will be in the next 10 mins because you couldn't accommodate me! But they could when she needed surgery & it costs me$$$$! So now my girl has been gone a month & these idiots send me a post card reminding me of her upcoming shots! I will never ever go back here plz do not thanks your pet here! There are so many more caring vets out there!!! So here is your reminder my dog is gone take me off the shot lists morons!!!!! read more

High praise for Rockledge Veterinary Clinic. I have visited over 5 vets in the area, and they are by far my favorite. Both the staff and doctors are kind as can be, very helpful. No one makes you feel silly for asking questions. Visiting the vet is like visiting a family member with Dr. Hutchinson. She is very down to earth and honest. My favorite thing about them is they don't press unwanted or unneeded products or procedures on your pet. The price is a bit much (40$ visit fee for the vet, less if your just seeing a technician for shots, etc) but during my research I found this to be about average for the area. read more

We took our very feisty (aka: will bite and scratch a human at Rockledge if he gets the chance) cat yesterday. He is an almost 14 year old cat who gets totally freaked out at the vet's. First off, the tech who came into the exam room was so kind....then Dr. Betty came in and laid out a few treats for Gilmore to coax him to leave the carrier - without trauma! It worked. Gilmore had to be muzzled (always at the vet's), but the 2 techs were so kind, gentle and efficient, his blood work and IV fluids were done quickly without issue. I really appreciate all the staff at Rockledge. They are awesome. And the waiting room has a chair in the corner where I always place our kitty's carrier, which helps him with his anxiety being there. Almost always a few dogs waiting... The staff at the front desk are knowledgeable and helpful, too. read more

The doctors and staff of Rockledge Verterinary Clinic are really nice. I took my cat and dog here on numerous occassions for their shots. Its pricey but they get the job done. They call to remind you when you're pet is due for another shot. Thats one of those little things that stays in a customer's mind long after their visit. I wish I could give them more stars. Dr. Hutchinson saved one of my dogs after my dog broke through a window and severed her tendons. Dr. Hutchinson also came to our house to liberate our elderly dog from his pain and suffering. It meant so much to us to have this process done at our home. I'm sure it meant as much to our beloved dog as well. She showed empathy and kindness that I will be forever grateful for. She gave us time to grieve and say our goodbyes before we finally ended his suffering. I am eternally thankful for her compassion as well as her skilled ability. After moving away from my hometown I found I was really missing my vet. I've been to many within my area (from Willow Grove to Elkins Park) and was unhappy with all of them. I first called Rockledge because my Lab got stung by a bee while playing in our yard. At this point in time I wasn't even a client, but the receptionist was very helpful, gave me a list of things to watch for and told me the appropriate amount of Benedryl to give my dog for his comfort. What a welcome change from the insensitive places that just say "you need an appointment before we can tell you anything", even if you're a client! Rockledge vets believe in minimal vaccines and they know their nutrition. Most vets will vaccinate your pets until your pockets are dry, but not at Rockledge. They truly care about your pet's well being. I've been in contact with them many times throughout the past few months and they're always there to answer my questions and give me advice (without draining my wallet or forcing me to make an appointment). I've also had to go in on emergency for xrays and they saw my puppy that night. I have Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds that I compete with in strenuous sports. It's so hard to find good vets that know the breeds and what it means to be a canine athlete. I've seen both Dr. Brice and Dr. Hutchinson and they're both the best! They know the breeds and demands on my dogs' bodies. read more

Wonderful place. Dr. Rubin and Dr. Hutchinson are so caring and down-to-earth, and what I love is that they both are interested in minimal treatment.... get the job done, but don't overtreat, overmedicate, overoperate. The technicians and front desk staff are also terrific. Many times I've called, concerned about effects of medicine or needing something, and they always remember my pet by name and address my concerns. There is never a feeling that I'm bothering them... just concern for my dog's welfare. I don't find it expensive; it's much cheaper than our previous vet. read more

Top notch! I've entrusted the care of my furkids to Rockledge Veterinary Clinic since January 1997 (wow, has it been 18 years now!) ever since my then almost 12 year old Keeshond needed surgery and I didn't feel comfortable with the surgical vet my then vet was referring me to. They gave him the ultimate TLC; back then the receptionist was Dr. Francine Rubin's sister Joan. When they gave me a follow-up call the next day was advised he needed an antibiotic; since I couldn't take more time off from work and they closed early that day Joan offered to put the meds in my mail slot (where I live was en route to her way home) and offered to have me pay for it when I was bringing my dog back for follow-up care - that's an awesome bit of trust, especially since I was a brand-new client! He healed well and Dr. Rubin took care of him until he crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May 2000 @ age 15. Since then I've entrusted all my furkids' care to Rockledge Veterinary Clinic; after my Keeshond Silver I've had a Chihuahua (Josie), & a miniature poodle (Jacque). Each time whenever they crossed the Bridge they never failed to send a condolence note & made donations to various pet rescues in their memories. They now care for my Chihuahua mix (Cassetta) who will be 14 in May - she just had today her semiannual senior wellness exam and my Pomeranian (Candy) who just turned 9 - today she had a bladder x-ray as a follow-up to her annual wellness exam where there was a possible irregularily with her urine test. Nowadays they more likely see Dr. Carrie Hutchinson - and Cassetta is especially comfortable with her. All of the vets & staff are truly caring. Am sorry about the unfortunate instances experienced by Cynthia & Allison since they are unusual. Am not saying they are all perfect (no one is); I've had a few issues through the years but easily got them ironed out with the caring assistance of Kathy G. who is the manager & handles client relations. The only reasons this is a 4 star review as opposed to a 5 star review is they do tend to run on the high side for fees (but again my furkids are worth it) and the few issues have encountered over the years - besides, no one is perfect. Definite pluses are clean, cheerful waiting area, no pressure to buy items with large markups, clean cheerful examination rooms. They utilize a holistic philosophy - a clear example is a preference to do titering as opposed to vaccines whenever possible. They do like to do a fair amount of blood profiling as well as urine & fecal analysis. Like another poster said if you're new in the area or just getting a pet or looking for a new vet in general, this is an excellent place to start. They've now been in business for 20 years so that means a lot. Also I noticed on my receipts today that they encourage reviews to be posted on yelp.com & on Google - this shows they definitely have nothing to hide! read more

I have had cats my entire life and the care they have gotten as clients at RVC is much better than the veterinarians we have used in the past. They have been seeing Dr. Carrie at RVC for years, and all of the doctors on staff are just great. They are knowledgeable and the compassion they have for the animals they care for really shows during appointments. Even the reception staff has a clear love for animals and a great knowledge of treatments and medications- often they will recommend things to me over the phone without requiring an appointment first which saves me time and money and doesn't mean a vet trip for my girls (neither of them likes going too much!). My cats are pretty low-maintenance but whenever they do have an illness or issue, I know I can count on RVC to help me get them back to feeling better as quickly as possible. Some might consider RVC to be too expensive- my response to this is that you get what you pay for! The superior care provided at RVC might cost more than at another office, but wouldn't you rather have doctors who truly care about you and your pet and KNOW what they are doing inside and out? I know I would. The office itself even reflects the devotion to owners and pets; when you walk in you're not bombarded by products for sale as you might be at some other practices which I love- the reception area is clean, quiet, and even has a television for times when you have a bit of a wait. From the beautiful hand-painted mural in the main hallway to the simple decor in each examine room, RVC is a cozy and comforting place to be. If you don't believe me, just ask Rocky or Gertrude, the two in-house cats that live at RVC, or any of the staff dogs who often accompany their people to work! :) read more
