Do not use this place. Went there in January 2024 their diagnosis was a torn upper bicep(I told them I think I tore my Pec tendon too). They sent me to physical therapy, 4 sessions later still no good. They sent me for an MRI. When the results came back, I asked about the torn Pec , they said we only shot the bicep. They gave me another MRI(which they paid for) but I still got billed for 2 MRI readings ($603 a pop, not to mention 4 therapy sessions on good bicep). I should not have to pay for their mistakes. I had an appointment with Dr Jacob Miller for chronic ankle pain. The X-Ray tech was super nice, and the whole thing was pretty easy and quick. As for Dr Miller, it's really obvious that he wants you to understand exactly what he is looking for and what he thinks is going on, he just generally seems like he wants you to feel involved in your care and treatment. He turned the screen to show me my x-ray results and explained what he was looking at and what it meant, and did the same thing when he did an ultrasound of my ankle, explaining what he was looking for and what the things meant. read more

I was sent to RMO twice by the VA, who had determine that I needed a shoulder replacement. I saw Dr Treadwell who was unable to access the X-rays and MRI, decided one X-ray would tell him everything. "I see a little arthritis and recommend an inter joint injection". I went back to the VA who told me to wait until they got their new shoulder guy. 10 months later I went back to the VA to see the new doctor (who has a shoulder fellowship) that the only question was the type of replacement. Looking at the pictures and check it out he said bone was about to rub on bone. I was sent back to the same doctor who repeated what he said the first time. I asked if he might want to call the VA to get the pictures since their diagnosis was very different. "That's not my job". I left before I blew a fuse. read more

Saw Dr. Treadwell (Oct24th) for carpal tunnel and elbow pain that was previously diagnosed by a neurologist. I was seeing Treadwell for carpal treatment options. After explaining the treatment plan a pain management doctor wanted to do on my upper AND lower body, Dr. Treadwell insisted I see the pain management doctor there and sent a referral. I've been waiting 1 1/2 months to see Dr. Hickman until the office called (12/6/23). I was told Dr. Hickman doesn't want to see me and the appointment was cancelled! Six days before I'm supposed to see him! I explained I wasn't seeing this doctor for carpal tunnel but other body pain. Treadwell and Hickman consulted, and Treadwell's notes only indicate carpal tunnel, so the doctors agreed I should go back to him. Today (12/7) I've spoken to the office manager Carmen, explained some of my health history which she supposedly took to discuss with Hickman. She apologized, said the office made a scheduling mistake and she would call back. Carmen's call back was Hickman still was not going to see me and I should go back to the original pain doc Treadwell told me NOT to see! If I want to see Hickman, then they want a referral from the OTHER pain doctor. It was a frustrating call filled with contradictions and hypocritical B.S., but according to Carmen, she's "professional". I was then told my case, the lack of notes and how it was scheduled, will be used in training the schedulers in the future, because somehow that's supposed to make this situation right. Pain dismissed by the doctor before I even see him. 1 1/2 months of not seeking other pain treatment in anticipation of this appointment. If a doctor has the power to veto a referral (from one of his own), then he should review and do it within the time of receiving the referral, not right before the long awaited appointment. Unfortunately, had another injury and found myself back at RMO. I had tried to find a surgeon for about a week with no luck. They were able to get me in for surgery within 2 days of me contacting them. Dr. Kota and his team did a great job fixing me up and assuring me I would be able to get back to my regular life once I recovered. Grateful for Dr. Kota and his team. read more

I had the pleasure of paying out of pocket to see an orthopedic hand specialist here today. I hurt my hand in a fall over a month ago and suspected some tendon damage and wanted to know the extent of it. I got maybe 15 minutes of this hand doctor's time and left with some pamphlets for exercises that I can do to heal it, and it cost me a cool $200. Reasonable, right? I neglected to "check-out" as I left. I'd already paid them at check-in and at no point in my hurried appointment was any necessary follow-up mentioned. Their office just called me in a near panic over my failure to check-out, because for some reason I owed these fools another $8. They knew I was paying cash for the visit, but at no point were additional, itemized charges ever presented to me. They also wanted to book a follow-up appointment, at the above mentioned rates for what has already proven to be mediocre care/customer service at best, to which I said HELL ON EARTH NO! Sorry Lisa, but hard no. Even if I need to be re-seen down the road, it will not be at RMO. I believe in a free market. I also believe that this, what I've described here, is savage AF. read more

We were in the emergency room Sunday evening July 2nd because my husband severed his thumb. They could not find a hand surgeon that evening because they were all on vacation for the 4th of July. They sent a referral to Dr. Atkinson at Rocky Mountain Orthopedics for us to be seen within a few days. We had recently moved to Texas so they saw our insurance was out of Texas and didn't think it would be covered so they kept me on hold and never returned my call after numerous messages. St Mary's referred us to another hand surgeon Friday morning and we were in that same day with surgery scheduled for this Monday. This was a very time-sensitive matter, and Rocky Mountain Orthopedics could have cared less. Horrible place, horrible Doctors. read more

At 10:00p.m. December 31, 2013 I arrived at the hospital as a tourist from Texas with a broken hip as a result of a slip on the ice. I was greeted by Dr. Waqqar Khan-Farooqi who examined me with gentle kindness explaining the options for the operation I would need. He then went to contact the doctor to see if he could perform the operation immediately. Within the hour I was introduced to Dr. Jeffrey Nakano who explained again what my choices were and I was in the operating room by 1100p.m. Both of these doctors were considerate and concerned. They made sure that I was comfortable with their ability to take care of me. I was extremely lucky to end up with them as my surgeons. Certainly I could not have selected better had I had the time to research. I am grateful to them for giving up their New Year's plans to take care of me and thrilled that their skill and care resulted in a very smooth operation and recovery. I returned to Texas within less than 72 hours after operation, and both doctors called to check on my recovery and to ask if there were any questions or help they could provide to assist in my recovery. read more

After a hand injury would not heal I made an appointment with the hand specialist at Rocky Mt. Orthopaedic. I was told there was no damage to my hand and my problem was arthritis. I was told an injury will trigger this and there was nothing to be done. I did not accept this and went to a different Doctor since my hand continued to cause me considerable pain. The second Doctor laughed when I told him of my first diagnosis. Current treatment for a jambed thumb is relieving the pain and giving much better motion. We recently moved up to the area from Denver about 10 months ago. Around the beginning of this year I started to have some back/leg pain that I thought was my sciatica. So, I found RMOA through our insurance and made my first appointment. I thought everything was going smoothly with this office. The staff was nice and friendly. It seemed to run like a finely tuned machine. I had three visits all together.. The first two were not bad at all. My first appointment I had x-rays done. The assistant to the doctor told me that I had spondylolisthesis, essentially a slipped disk in my lower lumbar. She also told me that it seemed that I could take care of it by doing some core exercises and to incorporate Yoga or Pilates into my daily exercise, BUT, just to make sure it was nothing else I needed to have an MRI. Okay, no problem. I made the appointment, had the MRI and was told that Dr. Kirk Clifford wouldn't be able to see me to go over the results for another 2 weeks. So, I made THAT appointment. On the day of the appointment Dr. Clifford abruptly came into the exam room wearing a surgical mask. He apologized and said he wasn't feeling good, "might be coming down with a cold or something." No problem. The first question out of his mouth was, "how much do you weigh?" Now, I will admit I am a voluptuous gal. I have always BEEN a voluptuous gal and I'm tall. I will also be the first to admit that I could stand to loose about 20 pounds, but I have NEVER, EVER considered myself obese. I eat healthy, I exercise and I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle. I have never had high blood pressure or high cholesterol or been diagnosed with diabetes from my regular physician. But do you think he asked that?? NO! He immediately told me that I would need to have surgery on my back BUT, (this is were it gets good) he wouldn't do surgery on me until I lost at least 80 pounds. I was to go on this extreme diet where I would fast for a day, then on the second day only eat a 500 calorie dinner. Essentially to eliminate 4,000 calories from my diet. Oh, and all the exercise in the world would not help my back or my weight. Are you serious? I said, "Ummm...no. I can't do that." His response, "Sure you can. It's quite easy and most of my patients have had a lot of success with it. You just need to cut down on pop"....This is where I stopped him and told him that I DO NOT drink pop, at all! He told me that if we do surgery at my current weight that the pins would break. My husband was with me and I think we were both so mortified and shocked at his snide and uncaring bed side manner. We were pretty much speechless. I wanted to ask where the cameras were because I thought maybe I made a wrong turn and was auditioning for a reality TV show. We left there and I was immediately in tears and asking my husband if I was truly that fat???? He regrets not stopping him now and just walking out. So, needless to say, NO, I would NEVER, EVER recommend this place or Dr. Kirk Clifford to anyone. I can see why people turn to alternative medicine now. Oh, and I have been exercising more and putting more emphasis on core related moves. My back is already better and I no longer have pain in my leg. So, Dr, Clifford....Tell me again how exercise won't help my situation! read more

Hi out there, this is Paul. I have been going to Dr. Terri Schmitt for a few months for foot care. On my very first visit, before I actually met the Dr. I was greeted by an assistant whos name I forgot (the tall thin guy, lol) and he was so gracious, kind, quick, efficient, polite and treated me with kindness and respect as a patient. And that was just the beginning. The Dr. came in promptly and gave me eye contact, spoke to me with concern and respect and literally blew me away with her bed-side manner! Then I go out to the receptionist and she is also kind and had lots of smiles?? I have to say I don't usually write these many nice things about any doctors office, as I have had mostly sterile, unfriendly experiences. This type of treatment is a prime example of what I believe the Medical Industry should parrot after, or at least strive to attain. Again, it's not like me to give high-fives to the medical industry as you people out there know exactly what I am talking about. This place is basically a patient factory. It's a busy practice, and the docs at RMOA are probably just fine if you present with an obvious and quickly-fixed problem like a broken leg or arm, but back pain is often more nuanced, and the spine docs at RMOA are either not skilled or dedicated enough, or just don't care enough to make the effort to definitively diagnose the source of their patient's back pain. The RMOA spine doc I saw actually said "anything" he saw in my MRI could be causing my back pain, and that I was just going to have back pain for the rest of my life. He said he could operate on me, but if he did he might make things worse. I was glad I took a companion to the appointments at RMOA, to help verify my perception of what was being said. My companion couldn't quite believe what the RMOA doc said, either. I have friends who, after I told them about my experience with this doc, reported having remarkably similar interactions with the same spine doc, Dr. Clifford. At my spouse's urging, I ended up seeking a second opinion from another practice, one with more highly skilled doctors with years more experience, and a better reputation. I'm extremely glad I did. The contrast between the two practices couldn't be more stark. The doctor at the second practice was friendly and personable, and took my situation far more seriously. He took the time needed to carefully rule out all the conditions in my back that were NOT causing pain, and performed additional diagnostic testing that enabled him to determine the exact source of my pain. Now we've nailed down the source of the problem and are well on the way to getting it fixed. THAT's competent care -- the kind I need from a doctor when I really need help. Sadly, it was not the level of care RMOA offered, by a long shot. My spouse also used RMOA's physical therapy department and said the PTs there were cold, like they didn't want to be bothered, and they palmed him off to an intern. Our advice: go elsewhere. read more
