Great niece petting friendly zebra at Rocky Ridge Drive-Through Safari in Eustace, Texas.

Rocky Ridge Drive Through Safari is a great place for up-close sightings of friendly, placid, some fairly large animals. You'll meet lots of deer, burros, some huge bison, wildebeest, antelope, and spectacularly gigantic bovine specimens. You'll see a wide range of antlers, wide and thick, mature and juvenile. Entry fee includes several generous bags of food. Maybe the number of bags is based on number of occupants in the car. That's also how they determine fees. Animals come up to car windows to collect the treats. My 5-year old great niece enjoyed it all immensely, as did the adults in our group. She kept saying "Adorable." The self-guided tour provides scenic local views. Animals and kids provide lots of laughs. Highly recommend, especially to entertain your youngsters. There's a small walk-through area just before the exit. Good place to stop and let the littles shake their legs and shake off some energy before your drive back.

Best place to spend NYE with our kiddos. The owners were the sweetest and the place was well cared for (coffee's good too!) We loved all of the animal experiences and had plenty of opportunities to feed a variety of animals. Thanks for the fun time! Highly recommend.

Very fun for all ages!! the deer were all so sweet and I've always wanted to feed a deer, I got to live my dream today!!

We found this location through Yelp. It sounded like it might be fun, so we went. We were kind of concerned that there weren't a lot of signs along the way, and wondered if it was still in fact, opened. But it was, happily. The entrance is easy to pass on the road if you're not actively looking for it, and our GPS calculated it as slightly further down the road than it actually was. When we arrived, we were one of two groups that were there, but by the time we left, there were probably a good six or seven cars behind us. When we went inside to pay for tickets, there was a cat sleeping on the sign-in book. They had adopted the cat, or maybe he had adopted them. That shows that they love animals. The cat was funny because he didn't budge as we signed in. He remained dozing and was a very sweet cat. One large bag of feed comes with your ticket price, and you can buy more if you would like. From past experience, we didn't think we would need more than one bag, because many times, when we have gone to similar animal rescue sanctuaries , the animals have been well fed, and were not particularly interested in what we had to offer. In the case of Rocky Ridge, the animals were very welcoming of the food. Some were in fact, insistent but not in a frightening way. They would gladly stick their heads inside the car to be fed. Sometimes they would follow the car. For example, there was a llama that followed us several times, and when my husband gently began to pull forward with the car the llama tried to keep pace with us. As we were leaving the main drive-through way, , we noticed a small sports car that was literally swarmed with the animals wanting to be fed. The roads are a little bit rough, so guests need to be aware that a car that can handle that is recommended. Animals will get close to the car and if the window is open, they will put their heads in the car. Some of them have antlers or large heads. In the case of a Highland cow they have large tongues. Just be aware that you will need to gently drive away and if you do, they tend to understand and pull their heads out of the window- but slow and gentle driving is also highly recommended for the safety of the animals. Dirt and saliva will get on the side of the car. That is to be expected from this type of experience. Some of the food pellets will fall in the floor and of your car. Expect that. If you have a really nice car and you are concerned about getting it dirty in the least, you probably don't want to drive that car into this facility. You will likely go home with some feed in some parts of your floorboard, etc. that you will have to pull out later, and the animals may approach after drinking water. That may leave temporary evidence on your window opening and on the door. . Unfortunately, we encountered cars in passing where there were some number of small children screaming every time the animals reached in the car to get the food. This can make the animals skittish and hesitant to approach a car if this type of outing is what you're planning, at any such type of animal sanctuary experience , please prepare your children not to overreact, when an animal is just reaching for the food you have to offer. These animals, were very gentle when given the food. We would definitely return!

One of the best safaris I've been to in Texas. Ran by sweet people, full of interesting and unique animals (including some HUGE bison) and their prices are fair!

Definitely a hit with the kiddo! We took our 6yo daughter on a Sunday afternoon and she loved it. We saw alligators, capybaras, all sorts of weird fowl, goats, monkeys, a pig, an emu, some zebras (they were far off in an area that wasn't accessible), bears, baboons, roosters, a donkey, a miniature pony, peacocks, and tortoises. Probably the coolest thing outside the baby animal room was the alligator feeding. One of the handlers came out with a bucket of raw chicken and some gator knowledge, and we stood just feet away as these massive gators hissed and jumped and came up out of the water to eat. It was so awesome! In addition to the animals, there was also a small playground with ropes to swing on and climb. On our way out we stopped in the baby animal area and got to hold ferrets, a bearded dragon, two snakes, a baby coati, and a baby alligator. There was also a sweet baby muntjac deer you could pet (but not hold). We took a lot of really fun pictures. It was a great way to end the visit. The only drawback is that the grounds don't seem well-maintained and need mowing and other work. The barns were really dirty and covered in cobwebs. There were giant tortoise turds on the walkway. One of the feeding tubes for the bears was broken. You can tell the place is in need of some repairs. I'm sure it's because all their profits go to the animals and not the facilities. It didn't prevent us from having a great time and we would definitely visit again!

We thought this would be such a fun place for her and her siblings to visit, and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. Annie and Tess were our guides, and I truly cannot say enough great things about them. They took the time to teach us about every single animal we had the pleasure of meeting, allowing us to move at our own pace and really enjoy every moment. I found myself feeling so relaxed and fully present during the experience, and that wouldn't have been possible without their patience and care. They were amazing. Honestly, all of the staff we encountered were so kind and welcoming. The animals were clearly happy and very well taken care of. My kids loved every encounter and even learned a little about how to care for the animals themselves. I actually saw a review complaining about animal poop around the property... but it's a farm. The animals are free-roaming instead of being kept in cages, which honestly made the experience even more special. If someone expects a hospital-grade environment, this probably isn't the place for them. This is a farm with well-loved and well-cared-for farm and exotic animals. I highly recommend bringing yourself, your family, and your kids here. You won't regret it. We already can't wait to come back -- I might even have to celebrate my own birthday here as an adult! Annie and Tess, we loved meeting you both and can't wait until we see you again.
