However, during my final month there, the owner began doing the feeding himself for other boarders, and that's when serious issues started. While driving a four-wheeler around with open buckets of feed, portions of that feed were dropped right outside my horses' pens. Both of my horses have genetic muscle disorders and are highly sensitive to high-sugar, high-starch, and gluten-containing feeds. Even small amounts can make them sick. After this change in routine, my mare colicked twice in two weeks. When I tried to address these concerns calmly, the environment became increasingly uncomfortable. From the start, I was treated poorly -- the owner openly told others not to like me -- and it only worsened when I advocated for my horses' dietary needs. To make matters worse, when I left the property, I was accused of taking a water trough that I had originally brought with me. Thankfully, several people could confirm that it belonged to me. If your horses have any medical or dietary sensitivities, or if you prefer a respectful, drama-free environment, I would be cautious about boarding here. Always put every instruction and agreement in writing and keep records of your own equipment and feed.

We started with a detailed safety orientation that included voice and physical commands, my body leaning angles for uphills and downhills, and what to expect from the horse. We rode the trail for an enjoyable ride. During the ride the wind blew off my hat and we continued the ride. Back at the corral at the end of the ride I sat in the shade while the nice lady went back and got my hat back to me. The Roselake Ranch is a large multi-purpose ranch with a variety of animals. We got a quick safety lesson and then we used their mounting steps to get on the horses. I really appreciated this because I'm very short and I was nervous about being able to get on and off safely. The trail ride was the perfect length. We went at 130pm on a 90 degree day and were comfortable because of all the shade throughout the ride. There are some large fields with no trees though so if it's super hot there will be times when the sun is too much. Our trail guide Isaiah was phenomenal and always warned us when there were low trees or areas to avoid. All in all, highly recommend. At $60/person it was also super affordable.
