I ordered a new rack for my hitch online. The order said "awaiting shipment." It was impossible to get through to customer service. I sent several emails and tried calling an over whelming amount of times with no answer. I was finally able to speak to a customer service rep 2 different times. Each time they told me that my order would be shipped out the next day. A week went by and still no rack. I have asked customer service to reimburse my order. Hopefully, it will not take an over whelming amount of time to receive my refund. The lack of customer service and communication is awful. Recently, my Jeep was broken into and the lock keys for my RockyMount bike rack, stolen. I called RockyMounts and spoke to a lovely woman, Jess, inquiring which key replacement I needed. She was extremely patient and kind and within minutes, I had a solution to my problem. Not long after our telephone conversation, a parcel arrived and upon opening it, a personal note from Jess as well as, an extra set of lock keys for bike rack. I bought a Rockymounts 2 bike hitch rack back in 2016. Lately, I realized that I had a problem with the rack. Thankfully Rockymounts advertised a lifetime warranty on that rack. I first reached out to the R.M. Customer support department who replied back "Those were older products of ours that were rebranded from Saris--you might contact them directly." Seriously? I then contacted the warranty department at R.M. who told me: "I understand your frustration, but this is a rebranded Saris rack and we cannot help you in fixing or replacing the rack." That's like saying, gee it's made in China, we just sell it, so bone up on Mandarin and give them a call. Don't sell a product with a lifetime guarantee you won't stand behind. Over the years, I have been to this store for advice but usually made no decision at all about what to do about our unusual sports carrier needs for a variety of vehicles. Or, occasionally, made a choice through a different vendor. At this point, our ski carrier is very old and useless to us as we usually go to the mountains just as a two-some, so everything will fit inside of an old Outback. But once a year we take out of town guests/visiting relatives with us and this inside choice does not work well and the old carrier is too small for the number of ski choices we now take. Or as some in the car say, the inside choice does't work at all (though we HAVE gotten to our overnight destination with a lot of gear, though not comfortably.) As I found out on my first internet search for solutions, compact roof top systems have advanced a lot in the last decade. And it is unfortunate that we did not do a box top years ago, but if you live like we do, no garage, no basement, no real alternative options, off season storage is a "fail." I saw a rack possibility on RockyMounts website and having the luxury to visit the actual store of this nationally known company since it is a Boulder founded business, I did just that. And first thing in the morning, on a weekday when they would not be as busy as I see when I drive by on a weekend. I usually want a lot of advice from staff to find a solution in cases like this. The salesperson was incredibly helpful and showed me both their branded unit (which was nicely made) that I had looked at online and which might have been sufficient for our size needs, but just barely, but also 2 other options from a major international brand that fit my particular needs even better, for not so much more money. In fact, one option was so superior in so many ways that I bought it and the sales person was kind enough to put it right on the car for me. I am very short and would have needed step ladder and help to mount it myself. My only off street option at my house is in the shade and so still has inches of packed ice on it from the last two snows. Nice all around deal and I would not hesitate to go there again should the need arise. read more

I think RockyMounts makes some usually decent products, but I discovered the hard way that the company has horrible customer service policies. I bought two RockyMounts Jawbridge car top bike mounts in spring 2013. I put one on my car and left the other one in the box unopened. I discovered that I didn't like the way the product worked, figured I was stuck with the one I had on my roof but just four months later tried to exchange the unopened Jawbridge (still in the box) and was told no way! They said they had discontinued the product and wouldn't accept returns on it, even in exchange for a different RockyMounts product. The guy working at the Boulder store suggested I put it on eBay. He said 'You might find someone who wants it.' Beware! You're better off buying products from someone who stands behind what they sell. read more

This place has great customer service and knowledgable, friendly staff! I stopped by here on a recommendation from a friend, with ski racks for my Subaru that I had purchased secondhand a couple years ago. I had never used them on my car as two of the feet were broken, the other two were dated, and I had also since lost the keychain that held the only key. The staff who was helping me (younger guy with long hair, I forgot his name) spent almost an hour replacing all four feet on my racks, mounting the crossbars AND racks, and triple checking the work to make sure everything was functional and user friendly. He also made me two keys, and I was out the door for less than $50. I will definitely be back and refer all my friends who need ski/bike rack help! read more

I went in with a broken Thule ski carrier. My key broke and was lodged into the core. I had gotten the carriers from rack attack but this place is around my corner. So I stopped in. For $10 they were able to fix everything and issue me new keys. Cody is the man. He was 2 steps ahead of me the entire process. He was able to extract my old key, smile, had two keys ready for me. Went to RockyMounts with the intentions of getting new racks and a cargo box on top of my 2019 Subaru outback. Parked and went inside and stood at the main counter. Three different employees looked at me multiple times and not one person came up to me. I waited... And waited... And waited... And finally just left. They all watched me leave and not one person attempted to come ask me if I need anything or to just tell me they would be with me in a moment. Zero customer service. And what I've heard from many other people, they are incredibly overpriced. Very happy to go somewhere else to give my business. read more

I have had a previous issue with one of their racks but gave them them another try. I had a issue with the second racks so I called and could clearly tel the person on the phone irritated about having to deal with me. While initially I was a little irritated by my experience with their staff on the phone, the sales and service manager Cody is very helpful. The President sent me a email apologizing for the experience so good customer service saves the day. Update Returned my defect stuff and never heard from them again. read more

I have had all rocky mounts racks for snowboards and bikes. Well, one finally broke. I emailed Tyler at their store in Boulder with pictures and the story of how it broke. Tyler was awesome. He just said send me your address and I will get you the part ASAP. He also added to call when I got the part and he would talk me thru replacing it. I emailed him my address and he emailed me back within an hour and told me the part was on the way. I LOVE CUSTOMER SERVICE LIKE THIS. Great job Tyler. Thank you. Just wanted to add something. I've now had the awesome folks at RockyMounts install 3 sets of racks for my vehicles, 2 roof-top boxes, and fork mounts for the bed of my pickup truck. All of the installs were included with the purchase, they were all done very professionally, and I never felt like I was being up-sold to something I didn't need. These guys design and manufacture their own brand of products, but that doesn't stop them from recommending the absolute best fitament for your vehicle. That said; my luck with RM products has been fantastic! I feel like their products are the most solid, and best designed in the market and I've gotten nearly a decade out of a set of roof racks on my wife's SUV - they still function perfectly. The shop has a cool vibe, its a home grown Boulder business, still owned and operated by the founder, and it shows. All the guys and gals who work there really care and do a darn good job. When looking to install a roof rack on my vehicle, this place came recommended through a friend. I went in on a Saturday to inquire and placed an order to install a Thule kit rack. I was told that the order would be placed on Monday and the parts would be there by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Four and a half weeks later and after me having to follow up with them several times as to the status of the order, I still don't have a rack. Customer Service is horrible at this place. Never once did they call me with an update, I always called them. Needless to say, I cancelled my order and will not be doing business with them. Horrible, horrible customer service! read more

I have purchased a bike rake and roof box from RockyMounts. I have been very happy with my overall experience and would definitely shop here in the future. They have a very knowledgable staff that helped me pick the right products and make sure they were installed properly. They also appear to stand by everything they sell, RockyMount brand or otherwise. I can't say enough good things about this place. I went in knowing nothing about ski racks and an employee thoroughly explained all of the options to me. He even tried to save me money by telling me to contact a Jeep dealership to get cross bars and not buying a set of their crossbars. He then offered me half-off of a previously opened pair of crossbars and I couldn't turn that down. He was so nice, flexible with my schedule in order to set up an appt and gave me a great deal. When I came to get the ski rack put on, the employee was super nice, offered me a drink, quickly installed the rack and explained everything to me. I was recommended this place by a friend and I will recommend it to everyone. Just a heads up, GPS does not get you there easily but it's right behind the Walgreens on Valmont. read more

Their service is pretty good but I bought a Rockymount ski rack to save $100 dollars from Thule and I now wish I had bought the Thule system. The Rockymount system is harder to unlock when taking your skis off the rack. You have to press down on the rack or it sticks and then it's real easy to catch your hand in the handle and pinch your skin so you have to be real careful. The Rockymount system has only one lock position so it won't self adjust like a Thule depending on the thickness of your skis or boards. Finally, the Rockymount system can get ice inside the key lock and then it's real hard to lock or unlock the rack. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra and get a nicer ski rack, such as Thule. My wife has the Thule and it's perfect. read more

I arrived at the store excited to purchase bike racks. Imagine my surprise when I was IGNORED by the only staff member in the floor. Granted the staff member was with another customer but did not acknowledge my existence at all. No, "hello, I'll be with you in a moment." No, "hello, I'm with another costumer, let me get one of my colleagues to help you." Nothing. After 10 minutes of waiting to be acknowledged, I left the store empty handed and frustrated. As an African American woman, it is not uncommon to be ignored in outdoor gear stores. Thankfully, I am always welcome and acknowledged in several other gear stores in Boulder. I plan to take my business elsewhere and tell everyone who tells me that Rocky Mounts is the "best" about my experience. They are always surprised and disappointed. The worst service ever! I walked in to two employees sitting on the couch drinking beers- neither of them greeted me when I walked in, had to ask them if either of them worked there. The one semi friendly employee went looking for some missing screws I lost to my 6 year old rack which they no longer make...and upon finding some that "should work" he charged me $10! I love to support the local guys and they make a great product, but I hate poor customer service like that! I left really annoyed. read more

I bought two tie rod bike trays which I have to say are first rate, they are extremely well made and mount to the roof racks very securely and will hold bikes with an open fork with no worries. The problem is the adaptor you need if you get a bike with a through axle like the Trek Remedy 9. The adaptor is well made and mounts to the tray okay but it is free to move forwards and backwards unless you use two straps on the back wheel (recommended by Rockymounts). Rockymounts said I could either rest it (the adaptor) forward or backwards but both options may result in damage, either to the adaptor handle or to the tray. I think a bit more engineering is needed to correct these shortcomings to what is otherwise an excellent bit of equipment. read more

I had to beg to be helped, I was assigned a person to help me, but then he disappeared in the back and I found out instead he was helping out someone that came after me but that they knew. I left. Good product. Good value. Really hard to find the location and the service was not great.

DO NOT BUY from these folks. I had my bike securely attached to my RockyMounts roof rack. The front fork was securely, seated and attached to the rack and the rack quick release lever was locked. Driving down the highway at 65 mph, the bike came out of the front rack and was hanging from my car by the rear wheel strap. I called Rocky Mounts to ask about it and they essentially told me it was my fault, they were not curious about the situation or the performance of their product, and offered no sympathy for my situation. Heard about these guys from my LBS here in town - came by to get a couple of their bike trays I see all over town. Had the color I wanted in stock and had them mounted to my car in about 10 minutes flat. What was even cooler was that they have 2 beer taps in their showroom! I was told they work quite well - next time I'll have to get more than 10 minutes worth of work done so I can really see if the tap works. Thanks guys. read more

Very positive experience here. Worked with some guys this weekend on finding a rack for my subaru forester. They were really great on matching prices without a lot of fuss. I brought my car over to see which of the hitch racks would fit best and they were able to put a few of them on. This proved invaluable as I was set on one model and ended up going with another because of some fit issues. read more
