    Vegetarian Dragon Roll
    Frank L.

This is an awesome restaurant featuring lovely ambience, fine wines, aged meats, and accommodation for dietary options. I had the vegetarian dragon roll, the best vegetarian plate I've ever had, and my wife had the Bao pork buns and butter chicken, all with wonderful presentation and delicious. So glad we found the restaurant and were able to enjoy the wonderful dining experience!

We tried Contrast the other day for a pre-theatre meal after work. I like to go for a pre-theatre the first time I go somewhere pricey and, if I like it enough go back for a la carte. The dining room is decorated nicely and feels cosy & festive. The pre-theatre menu had a good selection & we both had chicken liver parfait to start. The apricots (?) on top were nice and the parfait was fine but could have been improved with some thyme or something because it was a bit plain. For main course we had seabream and pork and, again, we agreed that they were plain and lacking in seasoning. Desserts (toffee sundae and chocolate melting pud) were lovely. The service was friendly and its a shame that the food was mediocre. Maybe it was a one-off, we'll try again sometime but the pre-theatre didn't encourage me to pay a la carte prices.

Beautiful place and excellent food, we didn't see Nessie that night. But the dining experience was much better than a sighting.

And we tried the Salmon and the ribeye for our mains--both were very good.

The World Cup Game was on so it was lively and fun. I will tell you, this was some of the best seasoned food we had the entire time we were in the UK (two weeks). Finally we didn't feel the need to add salt to something. The flavor was just spot on. My husband had the beer steak pie with puff pastry, I had the Cullen skink, my son had a pizza (I can't remember if it was on the kids' menu or not) and my daughter had a Caesar salad with chicken, which she eats a lot at home and had been craving. Both the skink and the stew were perfectly flavored! The fish in the stew was tender and so was the steak in the pie. If we ever go back to Inverness, we will be sure to be returning to Johnny Foxes. Oh! And our waiter was wonderful! I don't remember his name but a young blonde man with a mullet kind of haircut. Thank you to him!

We dropped by for an early dinner and got seated right away in a booth. The menu is broadly pub fare, with a focus on burgers and a couple of more upscale dishes (including an excellent fried camambert). We split the camambert (panko crusted and served with a fig and onion jam); my wife had a vegan Scotch broth + house made bread + tomato & pesto bruschetta, while I went with the highland burger: haggis on top of 6oz of dry aged Angus beef. The burger was exceptional, with a deep and pleasantly gamey flavour while the haggis added some richness. Paired with a pint of a local cask ale (Cromarty Brewing Happy Chappy pale), it was as good as dinner as we could've imagined on our first night in the Highlands.

We were taken to our table upstairs, frankly it was warm and a bit uncomfortable. Our server was a charming man, who unfortunately for him was working along on his first day. The restaurant was short staffed and they assisted him very well. He apologized multiple times. The goat cheese salad starter was reasonably good, certainly not great. My wife selected the halibut special that was frankly too salty. My choice of the monkfish was much better. On the recommendation of the people at the next table, I ordered the cheese board dessert. It was the best part of my meal.

I don't know how to describe the interior exactly, so I'll just call it rustic chic. A variety of different chairs around simple wood top tables. But each table was ornately set with large clear glasses, a wine bottle with the table number and wheat stocks(?) in it, a small candle, and vivid, brightly colored menus. And let's talk about those menus, shall we? So many tantalizing options. So many things just looked absolutely fantastic, and we were just a one couple, so we had a difficult time choosing between all of the different dishes. We started off with a Garlic Bombe. It was amazing. For drinks, we started with an Amalfi Sundown and a Limoncello Spritz. Those were both very delicious and refreshing. For our main dishes, we shared a Mushroom and Truffle with Burrata pasta (cause I have come to learn that you can never have too much burrata cheese), and a Pepperoni Campagna Pizza. These were unbeLIEVABLY good. We really didn't need any more food after all this, but they went and put a Baked Lemon and Black Currant Cheesecake on their dessert menu, and I'd never heard of that before. So naturally, I had to try it. It was fantastic, of course, and an excellent way to finish off our spectacular meal. The service was very friendly, and I was quite impressed by how fast everything came out. The place was hoppin', so that's just another indication that it's a good spot to grab a bite, when it's full of customers. We absolutely loved our visit to Inverness, and should we be fortunate to go back someday, ZIZZI would definitely be on our list of places to stop in for a meal.

The table was oriented so the seats sat facing directly into the setting sun and they never offered to lower the blinds, despite being literally blinded. They didn't clear the 2nd place setting which I HATE. No one offered me water. I ordered the strawberry mocktail which was supposed to be made with soda but tasted completely flat. For food I ordered the margarita pizza and I got a huge piece of cheese flatbread with 3 pathetic leaves of basil. Tasted as bland as it looked. I was in and out in about 25 minutes. I'd never come back.
