I don't like long distance driving, so that was never really going to happen unless I planned it out in advance. Recently, my sister in law mentioned I check out North Beach, and it was about a half hour away. I couldn't believe no one had mentioned it to me before, specifically those who had lived in DC for years or who were locals and raised here. As she stated, it was exactly a half hour away and it was in Calvert County, MD. I've never visited this side of MD before and I really liked it. It reminded me of beach towns in MA. The beach, itself, though is more of a local beach for residents and quite small. There is also a $25 out of county fee for non-residents, so that was a bit of an annoyance. I don't know that I've paid a beach fee that high before for any beach I've ever visited. I will say I enjoyed my day there, though, and just laid out on the beach with my headphones in while I read a book. It's definitely a family beach and the water is not deep at all. They almost fence it off so you don't go in too far and the water reached knee level for most people. I went in to wade for a bit and saw jelly fish and there was lots of moss. After the beach, I walked the board walk and got some nice photos. I also checked out the local ice cream shop and saw they have little boutiques and a few restaurants. I defiantly would come back again, especially once I have children.

We ended up in North Beach this past weekend, how pretty! Small but nice! Boardwalk and all! There is a private beach but it's for locals. Very very cute quaint neighborhood surrounding the "beach" area. Looking at water will never get old. If you're a water baby, or just love looking at water (lakes, oceans, ponds) then this is it! Super beautiful. Love this! Romantic for couples!

We went last year 2017 family trip and it was the worst fishing we had ever experienced, caught…read morenothing. I had a day off last week and gave it another try and once again, I caught nothing. The reason is because the captain does not want to burn gas. After pull off and 5 mins riding he says, "We are going to sit out front." Obviously the fish were not out front, after 5 hours on the water and the captain barely moving to locate hot spots, out of 12 people on the boat, we caught 3 fish. My one fish was about 7 inches and was the biggest fish of the day. We fish on charter boats allot and the difference with this one was the captain of the boat for sure. Usually if their is a boat full of customers who aren't catching the captain moves the boat, this was not the case on our trip. It was like his top priority was to save gas. Well, he saved gas, but his mates lost out on tips and none of our fellow passengers ever plan on returning to the boat again. We understand that sometimes the fishing can be bad, got it. But when a Captain doesn't move to a few different areas to attempt to put the boat on the fish, well that's just unsatisfactory.

Took a trolling rockfish fishing trip with Sam and Dave.. it was a great time spent on the water…read more We left the pier around 615 about an later we were at the fishing area and they casted the lines as we slowly crept around. We knew plenty of fish was there as there were flocks of birds and about 10 other boats filled with fishermen and fisherwomen. We hit rockfish pot of gold as it felt like the fish were jumping in the boat. At any given time 4-5 lines were bobbing and we were reeling them in. I think our smallest catch was 22in. Too bad there was a 2 person max per day because we met our quota within an hour or less. The only downside was I'm a lefty and they didn't ask prior to in order to have a rod prepped for me. And in our group pic two of our people weren't captured Otherwise great day awesome team and a grand time was had.

We rode on the Miss Chesapeake Beach and it was absolutely packed. Reading the previous "filtered"…read morereview, I too was skeptical about driving an hour out only to be rebuffed with Groupon in hand. Luckily though we arrived literally at the nick of time. Just a few footsteps behind me was another gentleman looking to use his groupon...but the boat was full. When they say to arrive early.....ARRIVE EARLY!!! Let me repeat. ARRIVE EARLY!!! It's much better to waste time at the dock waiting to board, than to drive back and forth from DC. The other reason you want to arrive early is so that you can pick where you want to be (i.e.- bow, starboard/port side, or stern). If you are lucky you'll get the side with the shade, otherwise come with lots of sunscreen or a nice big hat. We went bottom-fishing for croakers. Mostly caught Spot Croakers, and on rare occasion hooked a small Atlantic Croaker which we had to throw back. Great fishing action even for my mother in law and nephew; however, I highly recommend going with someone that knows how to unhook their own fish, otherwise you'll spend all your time unhooking their fish rather than your own. It took close to an hour just to arrive at the fishing location, but the return seemed a little quicker. We bagged several dozen croakers and had a wonderful dinner of stewed and fried croakers. Cleaned and froze the rest and gave them to friends. It was certainly worth every cent for the groupons we paid. If you plan on paying full price, I'd recommend going during an off peak days when the rates are lower. TIP: 1) Bring spare rags!!! You'll need to wipe your hands down after catching fish or baiting your hooks. 2) Use the red artificial bait strips. They work incredibly well, and because they made with a thin woven mesh, it almost never comes off. I used a little bit of both bloodworm and strips on the same hook. 3) Buy a plastic bag to keep your fish in 4) Don't forget to bring the ice. You'll need it to keep the fish and the BEER cold!!!

It wasn't the newest shiniest boat on the docks but was fine for a nice day out on the water. The boat crew was friendly, especially the captain's dog. Here are some thoughts I had to hopefully help any future first timers: At the docks: - Be early. We got there just after 5am and people were already in line. - Go to the gift shop, check in and pick up your tickets. You're not getting on the boat without your ticket. YOUR GROUPON RECEIPT IS NOT YOUR TICKET. - Buy some blood worms. I used the Fish Bites that were included with the Groupon and they worked okay but I feel like the people around us using live bait had better luck. On the boat: - You're allowed to bring your cooler with you. - Keep your line in front of you. Don't be the guy who keeps tangling everyone else's line. - Don't forget to tip the first mate. That kid did all the work as far as I can tell. The captain just shows up to drive the boat. - Join the fish pool. I did and won $90 and a free ticket. - Don't feed the dog. The regular price of $65 per person ($50 for seniors on Monday) isn't bad. The Groupon price of $65 for two people including bait and rod rentals is a steal!

Arranging the excursion, communicating by phone and text, the parking, all of that was a breeze. The boat is clean and huge! We had 7 guys and there was enough room for twice that. Captain Marcus knew where to go and we caught our limits. Everything was just pleasant and easy. Plenty of space to lay out your food and beer in the cooler. At the end of the trip, we had nicely filleted rockfish free of bones and skin. We'll be coming back for sure!

Marcus Wilson has been on the water half his life and his captaining of or charter highlighted this fact. We set out with a plan to fish more towards the Eastern shore but after a slow start we adjusted and under the captains direction we were put on fish, stripers, Maryland Rockfish, 25inch Maryland Rockfish, lots of 25 inch Maryland Rockfish! In the world of charter boat fishing things couldn't get any better. My gang of five fished hard, we had ample times on the fishing rods and we all caught our law allotted quota and we finished by noon. Perfect! All that was left to do was to take pictures, sip a cold one and sit back on the cruise home as first mate Jason cleaned, gutted and filleted our bounty. I will say that I'm a little disappointed that I may not use my long time charters at Kent Island much again but with the level of service, great knowledge of the water and all around wonderful experience I had fishing with Hot Lick I haven't got a choice.

Went to book an outing…read morein July but told Captain Jon Tkach I wanted my kids and grandkids to have a great time but also that I was hoping to catch bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Captain Jon suggested an alternative date in August based on this last request and I am so glad we listened to him. Caught blues and Spanish mackerel one after another for several hours and It was an amazing charter. I would also highly compliment Sam, the mate on this trip. He was a funny bundle of activity and seemed to handle all the various tasks seamlessly, getting everything exactly right. In particular I was appreciative of the caring patience he showed with my grandkids. Had them happily pulling in fish in no time. Jon and Sam made a great team and me, my kids and my grandkids all had a great time. This charter will become an annual event for us. Did I say we caught a lot of fish?
