We popped in for a drink pre-lunch and immediately appreciated the laid-back vibe. The waitresses, who wear there own clothes were both donning cute floral shorts and t's when we went and were friendly in a casual/cool way. When we arrived they told us to grab a table wherever and being another glorious day we headed straight outside to nab one of their high 6-seater tables drenched in afternoon sun! The drinks menu is extensive and divided into sections - punch pitchers, Bedford daisies (refreshing, lighter cocktails), Bedford ballers (stronger, more manly numbers) and liquor-laden floats. There is also a wide range of teas and non-alcoholic beverages. After much deliberation, we went for a pitcher of Aperol Spritz ($35) - Prosecco, Aperol, fresh peach, citrus, grapefruit bitters, herbs. It arrived pretty as a picture, with flower/herb garnishes in the glasses as well as the pitchers. We only ordered one serving but it came in two smaller pitchers and was easily enough to fill 5 glasses. I'll admit, I found it a little lacking in the flavour dept but it was v.refreshing! Yet to try the food (/meatball) menu, but for those who have spent time in NYC it looks similar to the meatball shop incl. laminated menus and markers for you to tick you choice of meatball and sides. Looking forward to heading back and trying more of their concoctions - I can see this is going to fast become a summer favourite.

Or a sub or slider. The interior is cool and good music quite loud which I like for this type of establishment and the wait staff all really cool too except for one girl who was quite unaccommodating with us when we asked obvious questions like can you get more than one sauce. I guess they've just opened so have some teething issues - the food took FOREVER - it was a mid week lunch time and considering all the meatballs and sauces are already prepared I don't get why it should take so long. Anyway when it came it was all pretty good. The corn was so delicious in its flavoured butter and the subs were wicked, perfect bernaise and tomato sauce and really herby meatballs encased in a really soft sesame seed bun. We also shared the meatballs paired with spagehetti and sauce but done this way its super expensive, 3 x meatballs for $12 then $3 for each sauce you want and $4 for a carb side (Spag, mash, polenta etc) so for a tiny tiny dish its minimum $19 - they really need to look at this. Also everyone loves sauce so extra sauces should be a $1 or something.

There is a small bar area, some seating and then a doorway which leads to some more tables in a sort of inner courtyard. A skylight provides natural light to this area and in the evening small candles glow on the tables, so it makes for a nice intimate meeting place too. House Bar makes really good coffee as well so this makes a nice alternative to a cafe in the afternoons I find, very quiet too. Friendly service and a nice selection of small plates are available here. If you are dining at Kitchen come here either before or after just to unwind, it is the perfect non-bar bar to do just that.

It must also be said they have done a great job of making the outdoor area as sheltered as possible and they even have a retractable roof for when it inevitably starts raining (this is Auckland after all!). As for the drinks, both us girls where in the mood for a refreshingly, cold beer and opted for a jar of the Monteith's Pilsner ($8). I thought the list was pretty reasonable in both price and variety although I do think they could do with a few more boutique beers on the list as opposed to the usual mass produced varieties. The boys on the other hand were nursing rather significant hangovers and were in need of a drink of the non-alcoholic variety. ASAP. They ended up settling on a Sweet Alice; a strong cup of Kokako filtered coffee with condensed milk on the side. Heaping the rather generous serving of condensed milk into their coffee both of them seemed pretty chuffed with their decision. All in all this is a very pleasant way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon and I am looking forward to coming back soon to try their rather tasty looking menu.

Don't be shocked when you see the beer missing from the menu, it isn't on there so ask the lovely wait staff. Gluten free options are available. Based on my experience you can request variations to menu items to fit your dietary requirements. I was impressed with my salad which not only looked good but tasted amazing. Greens with thin sliced mango, cherry tomatoes, micro greens and walnuts with a vinaigrette. Friendly staff, good surroundings, indoor and outdoor seating options and a decent menu. They have a unique range of cute and girly dresses, blouses and bottoms which all go well nicely with each other; however sadly a large percentage of the stock is made out of my arch nemisis, also known as polyester. Considering this fabric is the norm in the shop, prices aren't that cheap, so generally I stick to the sale racks or hunt down the few pieces made out of cotton. The service here is great though, much more friendly and tailored than a lot of the other places in the area.

The clothes weren't cheap. There were some gorgeous little dresses - they looked especially beautiful on the mannequins. For the first few minutes I felt quite ignored... which is weird, because in such a small space I sort of expected to be greeted straight away. As soon as I started sifting through the sales rack someone hurried over and started giving me details on the sale and asking if I wanted to try anything on. I took a fancy for two dresses, both orange and stunning. They were $90 each marked down from $180! Bargain alert. I didn't end up getting either of them (my conscious kicked in and asked "do you really need these"?) but I'm glad I discovered the shop! I'll definitely be popping in frequently to check that sale rack!

Service was great, wasn't too over the top, and it was a small place so the waiter could easily see if anyone needed anything. The only downside is that there's only one dining table indoors (which has a great view) making it a little hard to have a few plates of tapas at the couch seating area where the tables are quite small.

Loved the bathroom was luxurious with actual towels instead of paper towels - environmental!!! But wished the food were more unique.
