In a rough situation in life right now brought all that I could for a hotel and my service dog. They wouldn't accept my cash at all and if they did it's an extra 100 deposit... Went to 3 stores Finally got the money on my debit card go back. I do online they said cheaper, definitely not cheaper when the bill came to 130. I said hold on the room is 64 a night, charging me 35 security deposit to be safe ok I get that. Oh wait dog is 35 also, he is a service animal I told you he goes everywhere with me. The man said 35 dollars and I told my husband to take out the card so it shows and weaves he's a real service animal for us. After a 45 min hassle they kept saying we owe 35 dollars, I said look you knew from the beginning that I had $110.00 we discussed this agreed to this signed papers now your bitching about 35 I don't owe to figuring out how to get 35. At my wits end basically said shove it streets it is. The man finally didn't want to lose money said stay here is your card. Room 125 get a smokers room (don't smoke) and he gets us to our room and says tomorrow pay me 35.oo. Well I have activation on my phone at 2 am they took 36.00 off of my card. Thankfully it was only one night... is this place terrible? No, but you get what you pay for. Front desk person was very pleasant and the lobby/breakfast area was clean. The motel is soooo dated. Our room was VERY musty smelling (a stop to Dollar General and a purchase of Febreeze was really needed). The lighting was poor, bedding was thin, we found a used dog toy under the bed and we had to ask for more towels because they only gave us two. Most comical, the housekeeping staff left two red velvet Twinkies as a welcome gift! We did not attempt breakfast there, but opted for a doughnut shop next door. Overall... not a horrible place, clean... but don't think we will be back. read more

We flew in for our relatives dance recital and to visit family. Harry the manager was very helpful and booked us in suite 128 on the 1st floor. I needed easy access and no stairs so the room that he picked for us was perfect. Having the refrigerator and microwave was convenient. Our suite was large, well appointed and spacious. It was non-smoking and smelled fresh. The breakfast was good, excellent coffee. We stayed on May 31 for 3 nights. We will stay again on our next visit to CT. Thank you to Harry & staff. read more

Stayed here for a wedding being held near by. While the staff was nice enough the building itself was really REALLY lacking. The first room we were given (after trips up and down because the keys didn't work) had a broken bed and the couch was not a pull out (although this seemed like news to the staff). The breakfast room seemed clean but had approximately 4 tables to seat the whole motel. It served it's purpose as a place to sleep but I would certainly not make a second visit. read more

I recently stayed here because of a wedding - the couple booked a group rate at this hotel and my problems began when booking the room. I was told on my first two phone calls that there was no group booking for that weekend. Then that I had to be staying at least three nights (the couple was only staying for two themselves). I eventually got a call back from the person handling the group reservation two days later telling me that I could get a room. I booked a two floor suite w/a pull-out couch for early check-in (starting at 11:00 am). We arrived at around 2:30 pm and were told we couldn't check in because no rooms were ready. After attempting to relax a bit in the lobby area, we were allowed to go up...to find that our room keys hadn't been programmed so we couldn't get in. After getting new keys, we walked in to find a broken bed. Eventually we got into a second room - the handrail leading to the second floor was pulling out from the wall and the couch was not a pull-out, which shocked the front desk when they were asked about it. The "free wifi" wouldn't connect to any of our devices and no one from the staff seemed to be able to provide any direction or help. Everyone on the staff was quite nice and helpful in trying to rectify all the issues that popped up after our check-in but no amount of customer service could cover the fact that the rooms that I saw just weren't in a state that's acceptable to host a paying guest. I managed to sleep outside of the rain, but will not be going back to this place and couldn't conceive of recommending it to anyone traveling to the area. read more

To be clear, this review is for the Quality Inn and Suites on Winsted Road, not the Days Inn on East Main. Hopefully Yelp will fix this by the time anyone reads this review.) My parents live in Torrington, so I usually stay at their place instead of at a hotel, but we got married this weekend and figured it would be better to stay at a hotel on our wedding night instead of at my parents house. Cons: It looked like they were renovating the part of the hotel we stayed in. The hallway had a covering over the rug and there was what looked like sheets of drywall stacked near the door to our room. The door we had to enter thru on the outside of the building was not lit at all, which made it difficult to tell whether we were holding our keycard correctly. The card readers on all of the doors were extremely temperamental. It usually took us three or four tries to get the doors open. This happened on both the outside entrance and on the hotel room door. If one of us was in the room it was usually easier to knock and be let in. Pros: They upgraded us to a suite free of charge (though for all I know that was a relative who paid them to upgrade us because it was our wedding weekend). The hotel room itself showed no signs of renovation. It was clean and spacious. It felt a little musty when we entered, but I think that was just the weather outside and it went away after we had the AC on for 15 minutes or so. The suite included a fridge and a microwave, two sinks (one in the bathroom and one outside), a desk, and a couch along with the standard bed and TV. We didn't get a chance to sample their breakfast. For the price it was a very good hotel. Nothing extravagant, but it was a clean nice place to spend the night. read more

This is the worst hotel EVER. The security is terrible as each one of our key cards worked in each of the rooms we reserved. Due to third party reservations we were able to get a good rate however had to check out early so had to pay for one night we did not stay there. They allowed someone into our room, either renting it out again or through someone having a key or an employee who smoked in the room 24 hours after we left. Since the room was still under our name they are trying to shake us down for a $300 charge. When we called Choice Priviledges who spoke with the hotel they came up with further fabrications to justify their charges. When the police were contacted about this shake down we were advised there were a lot of problems at that property. Don't stay at this hotel...management is terrible. read more

I booked a suite because I needed the refrigerator for my kids medicine. Friday While checking in the person checking me in kept telling me my debit card was declined because of insufficient funds, After telling him repeatedly it was impossible and I had plenty of money in my account I had to call my bank , The bank was showing no transactions or activity on my account coming from the hotel , the clerk then finally figured out he was doing it wrong on the computer. So after a half hour of him embarrassing my family in front of other patrons he decides to tell me he is new and it's all set now. No apology After getting settled in the room we noticed the refrigerator was not that cold.By that night it wasn't cold at all. Called the front desk and was told there was nothing they could do That same night Friday one of my kids got sick and needed a new blanket and pillow. I went to the front desk and the same desk clerk tells me they have no extra blankets or pillows because the hotel is fully booked. How do you not have extra blankets & Pillows even if you are fully booked!!! Bad Management After being gone all day on Saturday We returned to our room at 5pm and our room had still not been cleaned. I went to the front desk and asked why our room was not cleaned and he told me because they were fully booked they had not gotten to my room yet but would be there shortly. So in the mean time I decide to take my kids swimming in the " Heated " pool and asked the clerk for some towels seeing as my room had not been cleaned and I had no new towels.. I was told by the clerk that they had NO extra towels because they were fully booked that's right just like the blanket and pillows. Once again I walk away shaking my head. We go to the " heated " pool and The water was freezing. Finally a man who said he was a manager came into the pool area so I asked him why the pool was not heated as advertised his response was " Because it was Summer they shut the heater off " I explained to him that summer was actually a month and a half away and the water was freezing cold not to mention this is New England and it can be 50 degrees one day and 75 degrees the next he just looked at me and said "Yes , I understand that but it's Summer" I just gave up trying to explain the seasons and the fact that it was only 60 degrees out. So after grabbing something to eat we came back to the Hotel room around 7pm and the Housekeeping women was in our hallway so I asked if she had cleaned our room yet and she responded " Your room isn't on my list, it must be on the other girls. She will be here shortly " I waited until 8:30pm and decided to try my luck again with this wonderful front desk staff, I asked when my room was going to be cleaned and was notified by the same manager from the pool ithat " all the housekeepers had gone home for the night and that the one that was in my hallway lied to me and she was supposed to clean my room" The next morning Sunday I go to check out and the desk clerk tells me he can't check me out because he has already logged out of the system and the girl Sara who's shift it was is late and I would have to wait for her to get there. After waiting 15 mins I told him I could no longer wait and needed to check out now. He calls Sara and she tells him she doesn't come in until 8am and he must log back on and check me out. It takes him almost 15mins to log in and then tells me he can not print me a receipt and tells me he is new also and doesn't know what he's doing. After my experience this weekend I told him I definitely wanted a receipt.after waiting another 5mins I asked for the manager who I spoke to the day before and he told me the manager got fired last night because he was rude to the staff He then told me he could email me the receipt, I said fine because I had to go. I Never Got The a Emailed Receipt 2 days later Tuesday I called the hotel at 9am and speak with (Sara , I tell her all the problems we experienced and she promised a bigger manager Ken would definitely call me back later today. I received a call from Sara around 4pm to tell me Ken had a family emergency and could not call me today but would definitely call me tomorrow Wednesday? No call on Wednesday either. So I call back on Thursday and they tell me Ken will call me back within 72 hours. Of course No Call again. I decide to wait to see how long it will take Ken to call me back. I waited 2 weeks. No Call. I call back again this morning at 9am and speak with Sara again and explain to her Ken never called me. Sara informed me that Ken would be in from 1:30pm - 3pm and he would definitely call me this time. Once again No Call. I call the hotel at 4pm when I get home from work hoping Ken will still be there. I speak with Kelly and she tells me Ken is gone for the day and she has no idea why he didn't call me. So after explaining the HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE my family endured at their hotel she took my number again and told me Ken will call me. read more

First of all due to a mix up I ended up in a smoking room which had yellow wallpaper and smelled really bad. On the way out of this horrible room the outside door handle came off! I had to pay another $75 for a "suite"because they didn't have any non smoking standard rooms left. There were no towels or soap in this room, we wanted to take a shower before heading out for the evening. This is were things really became bizarre.....I called the front desk for towels, not once not twice but 3 times in a 40 minute period and was assured they would be right up with them. During the third call the clerk became agitated and said she was going to call her general manager. I said please do and have him call me I would really like to speak with him. Apparently this must have scared her because she proceeded to accuse me of swearing (which I absolutely didn't do) at her and threatened to call the police on me. Unbelievable! This girl lies then threatens me with the police. Quality Inn customer relations was of no help they basically took her side and issued me a complaint number. I'm a regular visitor to the area and have stayed here 2 other times. Safe to say I will not be back to this or any other Quality Inn or any of their affiliated hotels. read more

I stayed last weekend. Room was two star quality. Internet was fast, but the phone kept ringing during the night until I took it off the hook. I got a call from GM Ken from their (860) 496-8808 phone number on Thursday. He accused me of stealing the Bible in the room and to mail it back to them. After telling him I did not he started to insult me. He told me to keep the Bible for I was going to need it in hell for taking it. I asked him to tell me what room number I was in. Upon check in, I was told I was the guest of the day and was being upgraded. So, maybe I thought, he might have thought I was in a different room. Ken was not able to tell me what room I was in. After I laughed at how ridiculous and unprofessional he was, he said I should sell the Bible because I need the money and said I had a stupid last name. read more

Dump had to have a Master Key that unlocked all the doors to get in my room and they let me keep it the whole stay. Which makes you wonder who can get into your room. I wasn't alone thank gosh. read more

I booked this motel room for one night while travelling on a business trip. Having never traveled to the area, I had no idea where to stay or what type of accommodations to expect. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was nowhere to be found. While I was waiting to check in, a creepy guy began following me around the motel complex. He stood in the lobby listening to my check-in interaction with your clerk once she finally arrived to her post. After check-in, I parked my vehicle and went in search of my room. I was followed to my room by the guy who was in the lobby during my check-in. I quickly entered my room while he peered through the window, locked the door and closed the curtains. Much to my dismay, the curtains that I had just touched were stained with dark splatter marks. I turned around to further inspect the room. It was FILTHY. I found garbage from the last guest EVERYWHERE - an empty liquor bottle in the night stand, dropped candy under the bed, KFC wrappers in the safe, and what appeared to be their urine on the back of the toilet. The bathroom floor was sticky and uncleaned, the walls had splatter marks all over them similar to the ones that I found on the curtains. Even the television was dirty! The room was an absolute NIGHTMARE - disgusting. Because of my later arrival, I had no choice but to stay. Every time I left the room I was followed around by the same creepy guy. It seems like that Rodeway Inn location was rife with riffraff - including people who decided to party through all hours of the night (on a Monday). I was unable to sleep most of the night because of slamming doors, people running through the complex, cars coming and going picking up and dropping people off, and the general fear that I may pick up some form of illness from the room in general. Finally, morning arrived and I wanted to check out as QUICKLY as possible. I arrived in the lobby to find again, that the front desk was unmanned. I waited for approximately 15 minutes, and no staff member arrived. Fearing that I would be late for my business engagement, I left my room keys and hightailed it out of there. When I arrived at the location of my business engagement, I logged on to the internet (the WiFi didn't work at the motel either) to Google reviews about the Rodeway Inn to see if other travelers had had similar experiences. My family and I have been coming to Torrington for many years now to visit extended family so we are familiar with area hotels. Clearly between the last stay at this location and our two night stay on 7/6/2013, something has changed. My siblings and I stayed in what was called a family suite. This loft like setup was set apart from the rest of the hotel is a dark and very unsafe feeling corridor. The Suite consisted of a pull out sofa on the lower level and a king bed on the loft. To make it easier I made a list of the pros and cons: Pros - Large, newly updated bathroom with a large counter and plenty of space for the four people who occupied the room to brush their teeth at once. -Staff was very friendly and really quick at trying to remedy any problem even if they didn't have the tools to do so. Cons -The fixtures of the suite looked like someone had come in and trashed the place but management hadn't bothered to replace it- think broken lamp shades, desk chairs etc -Bugs found when turning back the sheets indicated no one had come to give the room a once over before our check in -No towels except hand towels that covered nothing for showering. replacement sheets were full of tears and holes. Really I commend the staff who was on hand for trying to deal with what they had but with the fully booked premises and the lack of usable materials, this hotel barely passed as a place to sleep. read more

This place was completely unacceptable. No elevator, and we were told our rooms were on the third floor. We asked for rooms on first floor because of physical issues with stairs, and were assigned rooms that smelled of smoke with wallpaper peeling off the wall. They were also really dirty - dirty tissues lying around, hair in tub and on floor, and more. The window, on street level, would not lock so there were security issues as well. Filthy, Bugs found in Room, Staff Refused Refund We checked in. Room was not ready (although it was 3pm). We agreed to go shopping. The clerk gave us the keys. We returned at 4:30 to Room 128. There were what looked like fecal stains on the carpet. The room smelled awful - musty, damp, cigarettes. Supposedly a non-smoking room. NEXT, a flea or bug of similar size jumped on my wife's arm. I killed and am keeping it for my complaint and refund request. First the clerk apologized, saying the room should have been "locked for renovation". We declined a free upgrade to a suite, We only wanted to be away from the filthy establishment. They refused to listen, or refund our money. We'd been in the room for less than an hour. I took pictures and videos. When we asked for a manager, we were told that he refused to speak to us, but said "Corporate" would call me 'next week'. The clerk argued that the room had no odor. When my wife disagreed, the female supervisor screamed at her that she was inappropriate. My wife asked her what she meant. The supervisor did not reply, but just repeated: "Ma'am, you are inappropriate". My wife never raised her voice. When I protested her treatment of my wife, both staff members shouted me down and then threatened to call the police. I am certain it was a bluff. Police are the last thing such people would want coming there, given the state of the place (and look of the clientele). We left, and will seek restitution by other means. And an apology. *Avoid This Bad Place!* A truly memorable experience if you happen to be doing a term paper or personal survey of the seediest, dirtiest and most rudely-staffed motels of Southern New England. I have stayed here at the Rodeway Inn here in Torrington CT several times in the last couple of years. Both times I have had to be here for extended stays. No it is not a high end Hilton it is a fantastic little local hotel. Their staff is very accommodating, very friendly and the prices are very competitive. My room was always clean, the coffee always hot, and never had problems with noise. Enjoy your stay!! read more

I am a woman, biological things happen, it was surprisingly my time of the month, and I tried to clean up as best as possible. Manager gave me reasonable price and said he would not charge me a pet fee....however, when I received my CC statement....he did charge me pet fee. We had a pretty disappointing experience at this property. I had reserved online a room with a king bed and a sofa bed (supposed to sleep two, but it was not as wide as a double bed) - and there was the option to add a roll-away to sleep a fifth person, which I did because my husband and I were traveling with a 62-year-old female and a 23-year-old male who obviously were not going to sleep together. Upon our arrival, we found the room had no roll-away. When we returned to the front desk, the man (who was pleasant but difficult to understand and who seemed to have difficulty understanding us) was surprised that we were supposed to have a roll-away. He acted like he had not seen our reservation - despite my having booked on the corporation's website. He got us a roll-away - and then we had to move furniture around so it would fit. Then we had to go ask for bedding for both the roll-away and the sofa bed. When the sheets and pillows were brought, there were no blankets - had to ask for them . . . they were still damp from the laundry. The man told us the room was not "allowed" to have that many people - although there were four of us and it had said online that the room we were reserving would hold five. He told us we would have to move to another room the next day since we were staying for two nights - not sure why we could not have just moved that night so we did not have to move the next day as the hotel definitely was not full. We were never offered an "I'm so sorry." The next morning we found out we had to actually check out, load all our belongings into our car, and then check in again that night. This time we were given a larger "suite" with the master bedroom upstairs. Only problem was the smoke detector kept beeping. We went to the desk and were given the key to another suite - had to move the roll-away into that one, only to find out that that smoke detector was beeping, too. This time the girl came and checked until she found a suite with a different type of detector - it wasn't beeping. As we got settled, including moving the roll-away again, we discovered that this one only had a loveseat, not a sofa bed! Back to the desk. Finally we were given a suite with a quiet smoke detector AND a sofa bed. This one was smaller, though - so not only did we have to move the roll-away into the room, but we also had to move a table and armchair upstairs and re-arrange the downstairs so the sofa bed and roll-away could both be opened. The girl did apologize at least. We registered a complaint again the next morning with the man from the first night - still no apology. He did say we should call the hotel directly and not make the registration online - and said "next time" we would be given a free upgrade. Right. Add all that frustration to the fact that the hotel is pretty run down, and we were not happy campers. It was fairly clean, though - except for the piece of popcorn we found in the bathroom. And the trash cans outside which were overflowing when we arrived and still had not been emptied when we checked out. read more

to give this place any star is over rated. wow the front desk clerk(woman) is rude cold non inviting at all. the hotel is dirty old spider webs and bee hives everywhere. no laundry facility available no microwave or kitchen just a dirty tiny fridge. the beds are hard old worn down mattresses. even with a group of 4 your only allowed 2 towels. towels old dirty stinky. the pool cold as ice . god forbid you ask for an accommodation its too much of a bother. the boss tries to accommodate you as well as his front desk guy clearly they do not know the meaning of truly accommodating their guest. i didn't even have a phone in my room. i paid 100 per night for nothing at all cause none of the amenities are actually available. big mistake not to read the reviews first. it reeks of spices like curry everywhere.. i was stuck staying for 3 days because they are the only per friendly hotel in this town. i was forced due to work and my dog to stay but wow i have never in my life been so disappointed with a hotel stay. i was told sorry no laundry available its broken down you'll have to take your laundry down to the laundry matt. when i asked for them to please throw my work cloths in there laundry facilities i'll even pay them as i have no clean cloths, i was rudely told they will have to get back to me! which they never did. please do not stay in this place unless your desperate. or just don't expect anything good. i could go on for another few paragraphs but what's the point. read more

The main manager needs to go to class to have better hospitality,cause it sucks. .I work in retail and I could never treat people without good hospitality...we stay here cause I lost my home so instead of living on the streets or in my car I said let's stay in a motel,came here checked it out everything seemed ok the price was ok for 5,but everytime we go to pay it's a different price,and this week we go pay out 350.00 and guess what its 420.00 now how,why...we have 3 young kids and we don't feel comfortable here anymore but till we find a home this is it.when we first came here it was like omg bathroom had bad mold on ceiling bad it was making my son sick...the phone we can receive calls but couldn't make outside calls told the desk nothing.....yes there pet friendly,and we smoke so why give us in a nonsmoking room..can Sam up the price is what I want to know? A big jump in price like that is crazy... $350.00/wk.now it's $420.00/wk....this place brings tears to my eyes the girls at the office are nice but that Sam has to go,belive me i want a real home but for now this is it.....angry,upset,disgusting,..... read more
