If I could give this place less than one star I would. I paid $100/night. My room was filthy and smelled musty. The woman in the office is the absolute rudest person I have ever dealt with. I would stay FAR away from this place. When I asked for my room to be vacuumed because it wasn't prior to check in. They handed me a vacuum and had do it myself.

    Jacuzzi hot tub

Been going to this hotel for years and getting pricy every year by cycle of the world expenses but it worth every penny Stayed in hot tub it was clean and the water pressure was amazing had an amazing time as always. We will ask for the same room.

    Patchwork?

Don't go here, driving out of the parking lot was the best part of our stay. Witnessed multiple drug deals and a drunk woman throw a beer bottle at the cars below. People live here, not just rent rooms. We came and didn't have towels in the room....called the front desk multiple times and got no answer from 11am till 630pm when I finally went down to the main office. I was told " it's not really my job to be sitting here by the phone I have other things to do" my husband and 12 year old woke up with marks all over them which turned out to be bed bug bites. Just drive away if you need a hotel that bad I'd suggest sleeping in your car before going here.

Dead carpet bugs in the "gym". Who carpets a gym? And much of the equipment was broken, so you had to do your cardio on this floor - ewe!

That caught my attention. I'm a great lover of historic buildings. This one has enjoyed several different lives, but the newest iteration opened in 2024. The owners have paid close attention to many details that show they value the history of the building - from the furniture in the multiple small dining rooms to the reproduction wallpaper on the walls. I loved the use of large candles in the fireplaces to replicate the light of a fire. Our meals were from the Prix Fixe Menu for $50 per person. I was delighted to see later that Lost Fox Inn advertises a Prix Fixe Menu on Thursdays for $60 per person. I enjoyed the Corn Chowder soup appetizer, which was different from any chowder I've ever eaten but very flavorful. My main course was Orecchiette, a delightful maitake and shiitake mushroom pasta dish that is flavored with lemon, pecorino Romano, rosemary, oregano and topped with breadcrumbs. Dessert was a chocolate mousse topped with pickled blackberry and mint. Really delicious. We booked an early dinner and were delighted to find that we were the only ones seated in our small dining room. As the hour progressed, more and more people filled the room, and interestingly each group took advantage of the restaurant week menu (many of the items are on the regular dinner menu). The wait staff was very attentive, checking in and answering questions about the menu items. I look forward to a return visit because the food was really outstanding.

After getting back on the road again we were quite worn out from the cold. Since we had to put a good amount of money in to the bus, our budget remains limited for the rest of our tour. Ownership warmly welcomed us and helped us with our luggage. Upon checking in to our single room with 2 double beds our head dancer (Priscilla) was attacked by a feral coyote that somehow had made it in through the bathroom window. She is currently being treated at Torrington hospital (conveniently located near by) and is stable. The owner generously gave us 50% on the room due to this minor occurrence. The hotel has all the amenities and beyond. To help us save us additional money the owner allowed us (9 ppl total) to stay together in a double bed room with a small kitchenette. Late checkout available. Thank you!

Cromulent even, if you're partial to Springfield/Shelbyville vernacular. It's less expensive than the larger, Best Value Inn down on Winsted Ave, yet, the rooms are nicer, the staff is far more courteous and amiable, and it seems to attract less of the "partier/suffering from substance use disorder" crowd. Also, they don't require a credit card to register, and tout superior amenities to the aforementioned motel. The family that owns and runs the Royal Inn is very nice, and accommodating. My only complaint is, the son in the family, a very polite young man, is seemingly the only individual in the family with enough computer savvy to know how to program the room key, so if he's temporarily unavailabl, you may be asked to stop by the lobby later to procure you're room key, lest you want to have one of the other staff members continually open your door with the master key. Seriously though, for an unassuming, inexpensive, little motel, you could do far worse. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is pleasant, and the rates are extraordinarily reasonable. As long as you're not expecting the Plaza Hotel, I think you'll be pleased with your decision to stay there. I certainly was, and prefer to the Days Inn across the street, and the Best Value across town.
