Booked a room through Trivago/Bookings.com for my son and I as he returned to the University of Delaware after 3 semesters at home due to Covid. He was moving into an apartment for the first time, having outgrown the desire for domitory life. Classes started before he could finalize the lease and deposit, so he was staying at this Rodeway Inn for a few days. It is only minutes from campus. This was one of the cheapest deals in town, and likely one of the oldest motels. Newer facilities are all around, as Newark has become recognized as an attractive college town worthy of academic tourism. I met my son here. There was a large sign in front of the office warning that prostitution was illegal in Delaware. Appreciated their public service announcement, but found the need for it a little disconcerting. Anyway, that business was not evident while we were there. The room was large with clean beds and bright colored bedding. The bathroom was super sized for some reason. WiFi required a password from the manager, but it worked well. Although breakfast was advertised as part of the package, in fact that was not true due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. Only a small coffee service in the office remained. There was nothing fancy about Room 105. If we wanted luxury we would need to go to those $200/night accommodations up the road. No, Rodeway Inn University was strictly heads-on-beds without pillow chocolates. For the price on the low end of the spectrum, it was all we expected and needed.

Nasty tub

Apparently I should have read reviews before booking this hotel. For $100 I was certainly not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but I didn't expect to walk in to what should be a $29.99, side of the interstate, sleazy hotel, yet that's definitely what I got. When I tried to get some assistance with moving to an affiliate hotel, they only offered the option to switch rooms. As you can see by the pictures, the conditions of this hotel are by far substandard. A wall panel was on the floor upon arrival, and appeared to be covered in mold. A local told us that this hotel suffered significant flood damage somewhat recently, so that leads me to believe that there's a real possibility that there is mold elsewhere in the room. There also appears to be blood splattered on a lampshade. The tub/shower is absolutely disgusting too. We're traveling for a funeral, and really did not need this added stress.

A live roach by the bed

Omg this was the worst roach Motel I've ever seen! The front desk took over 20 minutes to check one person out. There were 4 of us that were supposed to have 1 room each, yet he couldn't find the last reservation. Then miraculously found an extra room! When I walked up the stairs to get to room 209, the concrete ceiling holding the pathway to the room was crumbling. I walked into my room and saw one of the beds not made, and stains on the sheets. The bathroom smelled like weed and there was a live roach on the floor by the bed. I grabbed my stuff and turned in my key! I would never stay here and wouldn't recommend that anyone else does.

Lock broken on the door.

On a road trip, we last minute checked out Expedia for a cheap, clean hotel. Unfortunately many rooms nearby were over $200 a night. We did find a few that were more reasonable and that got decent reviews. Before booking, Expedia warns it is non-refundable. When we pulled in, we quickly realized the pictures were not reflective of reality. Checking in, the front desk person was nice enough. We had no idea where our room was, and were left to wander. It seems that this motel is probably a place where shady stuff goes down based off of the people lingering around. We made it to our room, first thing we noticed was the lock only bolted shut, the top lock was missing. The light switch didn't work so we turned on the lights in the room. We immediately checked for bugs, and fortunately found none. The mattress and linens were cleaned at least. The bathroom seemed only to be partially cleaned. Like there was a used soap bar in the tray?!? But a new one was by the tub. The furniture was stained and in disarray. Fortunately we didn't bring anything in with us because it was just a pit stop. The noise outside was ridiculous, people fighting and partying until after 3am. I'm super confused how someone gave this place 5 stars... Did you stay somewhere else and accidentally write a review for the wrong place? Would never stay here again, it was dirty and felt very unsafe.

Broken tv single

Disgusting dirty! Broken tv, windowsills covered dead bugs. Shower head loose, broken torn lamp shade. Would have left but late night drive in pouring rain from NY

As you walk down the hallways of this hotel (second or third floor,) you hear the "hollow" sound and creek beneath you, making it seem like you're stomping. Then, you get to your room (in my case, the room was not locked - rather, the latch was keeping it, and every other door in the hallway, open.) At first glance, the room seems clean enough - until you see the rigged locking mechanism on the door, the fire alarm that may or may not work, the "surprises" in the fridge (likely spoiled milk and opened candy), and stains on the pillow cases and sheets. Then, it sets in how wrinkled the sheets/comforters are. Overall, the experience at this hotel was pretty lousy. I should have read reviews before booking, but I didn't. There are plenty of other hotels in the area that are similar in price, but will afford you a much better experience. Too bad, honestly, since Wyndham properties can be quite nice. Live and learn.

It was lovely and very clean and well-kept. The service was excellent and parking was easy. I really like the room for the few hours that we stayed there but breakfast was the highlight. We went down to breakfast and found all kinds of good hot food that we could choose from. The breakfast buffet line was socially distanced and the hotel was very careful throughout to keep people apart and safe. Make made pancakes for us using the pancake machine which we had not seen before. It was really fun and the restaurant was very very nice. Definitely a great place to stay.

Got the hotel around 12:30pm at the premise of asked for early check in, room wasn't ready, totally understandable. Left my luggage at the frontdesk then enjoy the world. It was a elderly white lady working at the frontdesk. Received a message at 1:49pm and said my room is ready, after got back around 6pm, a different person--a older white guy (I dunno he's name, let's call him Steve cause he looks like a Steve) said he can't find my checkin details, asked for my passport for 3 times cause "I didn't see you in the system" not until I showed him the checked-in detail in the mobile app, then all of sudden "Ah now I see you, yeah you're in the system". Then what's the reason you ask for my passport 3 times? Then it's "there's a hold on your card blah blah blah" which we both know is a LIE. Turns out old white boi name was John, remember that. While the first time I was checking in (12:30pm), already sent my MMF form even before I arrive the hotel. After arrived the hotel I sent out the form 2nd time then Steve said "I didn't see your MMF form", well is that my problem as a customer cause you're impeccable with your job? No! I've already done my part, the rest are none of my concern! After he "found" my record, all of sudden the room on my app changed from 315 to 216, when I get in the room I find there's no tub so got back for a room with tub. This time been changed from 216 to 223 "I'm pretty sure there's a tub in this one". Turns out, nop, still no tub. But it's already too late so I'll deal with this one tonight. Asked him "My room been changed twice but still no tub, please don't ruin my long-waited staycation & change me a room with tub tomorrow, Ty". Going downstairs, then been "Senor"ed and told me "That person who signed me the form might get in trouble". Firstly, I'm not Latino, so why you "Senor" me? Are you trying me let me make a discrimination claim on you? Secondly, are you threaten me? A paying customer cause you made a series of mistake and trying to shift the responsibility on me? I've got everything on record and the times of the emails won't lie. Hardword complain is the least I can do. Maybe, I'm just saying, maybe Marriott needs to hire someone who's capable and respect their duty and those who put food on their table.

After approximately 7 minutes a female employee in a business suite carrying a two-way radio walked by the desk. Then about 2-minutes later she appeared at the desk. Upon checking me in, I informed her that I was traveling with a pet. She inquired if my pet was a service dog. (Note: When I made my reservation I indicated that I was traveling with a large dog. Apparently, my notation was either not read or deleted.) Anyway, i was assigned room 414. Odd, due to my error, when it got to the fourth floor, i was able to enter room 410 using my keycard. After I unpacked, I realized that an item that I placed on my cart was missing; so, I returned the cart to conduct my search. The lady who checked me in found it and gave it to me. Then I returned to Mt correct room 414, opened the door, walked inside, no dog and no personal belongings. A few minutes later, I realized my mistake; yet, now I was unable to enter room 410. So, when I saw a maid cart, I walked to it. As the maid did not speak English, the floor supervisor assisted. After checking the matter, due to her assistance, I was able to enter room 410 to remove my dog and affects and place them in the correct room. As I did use a towel and the sink in 410, I grabbed a towel from 414 to do a quick clean. As the hallway does not have signage for the elevator, ice machine, etc, when I walked out of my guest room, I went to the opposite direction -a very humorous experience! The guest room, itself, was spacious, and very clean. The tv remote took a few minutes to figure out -not user friendly! Also, there was no card to indicate channels. The remote had a Netflix button, but the tv did not provide it or HBO. Yet, the Sunset Inn across the street on their street sign does; yet, I probably would not stay there. The bathroom had containers for soap, lotion, and shampoo rather then individual bottles which I, personally, prefer! The tub had a grin bar, an added plus! The area surrounding the hotel is great for waking a dog on a leash due to very little car traffic and a lot of grass. The breakfast in the morning was hot with a good variety. The attendant did an excellent job ensure that the coffee and food items were replenished, often. She made sure the tables were clean and the trash cans did not overflow. The hotel also under renovation; so, the laundry room and fitness were closed. Also, a section of the second floor where the reception desk and breakfast area is located is closed off. I was disappointed to find out for myself about the laundry room. The pool did look clean; yet, I did not use it. Upon check out, again, nobody at the desk. Maybe the hotel go self-service! Now, this time the lady who sat behind the desk the day before got up to check me out. She was not exactly going to win any awards for being Miss Hospitality! She did not crack a smile once! She performed her duty a efficiently, period! Overall, the hotel is average. The reception desk which is where a guest is welcomed in, is lacking. I did not feel welcomed; yet, I did not feel unwelcome, either! The rest of staff were fine. Now will I stay there again, uncertainly! I am a HiltonHonors Member; yet, this Hampton is okay for an overnight stay -eat, sleep, leave! Oh, the hotel does not want a guest to write a comment on their website. So, if a guest wants to make a comment then s/he has to call the hotel to speak to someone -actually who leave a message on a voice mail box. Now, according to the sign at the desk, the hotel has an 8.8 rating -interesting! Who gave the rating? How is the hotel being rated when the guest can not write a comment? S/he has to call. A staff member could delete the message. Odd!
