HE is my doctor. He's rad. I can tell him anything without worry of judgement. He cares. His staff always fits me in the day after i call him. He focuses on my problem & he's intent & resourceful in finding a resolution. He's current & knowledgeable and still humble at the same time. His hands are healing and i trust him with my body/health. I would refer him to my own Mama if she were still alive today (God rest her soul). Dr. Samawi has never fallen short of the bar with me and I definitely have my share of ailments to tend to. TO SAM: I'm not the Dr's family BUT a patient who rely's upon him for the treatment of my health. I'm not sure what kind of doctor that you're in need of but he is merely general practice. I originally CALLED the office to make an appointment for annual physical exam. I asked them specifically whether I was in network and make sure it's a no-cost annual check up. During the visit, I told them I had skin irritation (after they asked if I had any other concern, ok sure...). The nurse practitioner then checked my lump and told me I only need antibiotics for that. I then proceeded to have the blood and urine tests. Before leaving, I asked them again how much do I own them. They said don't worry about it. 1 month later, I received two bills: one for the office visit which was more than $150, the other one was lab work bill for the tests that I did during my visit. I called the lab and they said it wasn't preventive cares; therefore, I had to pay for them. I then called the office and voiced my concern. They said because I complained about the skin irritation, the physical exam now changed into an office visit and that's why I was billed for a sick visit. I WAS NOT informed and MOST CERTAIN that my lab work has nothing to do with that lump! NOBODY has informed me about the situation, I was under the impression I was getting a no-cost physical exam. They refused to come to any solution to resolve this UNFAIR visit. They even said "next time you should call the insurance before you came in." What kind of service is that? Such scammers! The Lab works had nothing to do with my skin irritation and I ended up paying for that and the overpriced office visit. The nurse practitioner then said "even if it's your first time visit, you still have to pay for this and that." Well, your staff made sure NOT TO TELL people that before they come in! Doctors are supposed to help people, not trick them into paying more money to make them richer. Have some human decency and integrity please! What a bad experience. No related lab work, no tissue taken, low tech medical devices, and no informative staff. I would never EVER go back there. Please make this a lesion for yourselves. Don't get scammed! read more

The office staff is a tour de force of incompetence. I'm updating my original review b/c I have had more experience with the office staff now. They have now made SIX mistakes in either lab tests or prescriptions. Worse, when I call to find out what's happening, they lied to me once, and on 2 occasions, they reported that they had had a problem but they didn't follow up to solve the problem or notify me. To his credit, Dr. Samawi did respond to my concerns, but the response was that the office staff was not his--they are managed by his partner. Oh..well then. That makes me feel better about not getting my prescription. Now, several months after my appointment, I get a call from someone in the office saying that Dr. Samawi didn't get all the insurance info he needed (seems like the **office staff** should get the insurance info--does no one take responsibility in this practice?) so I need to come in. Can you tell me what you need and I'll give it to you over the phone? No. Can you mail me something and I will fill it in and mail it back? No. So now they are up to seven mistakes and want ME to come to THEM to fix their latest. Unbelievable. The trust-o-meter is pegged on "none." read more

After we moved into a new neighborhood, I wanted a doctor/hospital within walking distance of our home. After researching and reading reviews of neighborhood doctors/hospitals, I came across Dr. Samawi. My husband and I are very thankful/grateful to have stumbled across this doctor and his attentive staff. Everyone is the best as is Dr. Samawi. He's the best doctor we've had in quite a while. He's cool, understanding, compassionate, focused, helpful, on time, and he actually listens and relays feedback and sometimes some of his own personal adventures/experiences too. Dr. Samawi is not just a doctor. He's a friend who cares and offers sound advice without being crude/rude nor full of ultimatums/scare tactics. Recently, after switching insurance plans, I needed to pick a new primary care physician and on the list was Dr. Samawi. I could not scroll past the option fast enough. In trying to vet other doctors, I came across this Yelp page and felt so much that I had no choice but to finally leave my first review. See, Dr. Samawi was my first doctor when I moved to town (when I had the worst insurance in the world) and I found him amiable enough when I'd come in for my yearly exams and when I started feeling pain on the left side of my torso, I wanted to get it checked out. They sent me to another location to have an ultrasound done and a few days later I got the results from Dr. Samawi's office: gallstones. Which was strange, since the gall bladder is on the RIGHT side of the body, but doctor knows best, right? So, at Dr. Samawi's instruction, I went ahead and booked an appointment with a(n expensive) gastroenterologist who brought me in and looked over my previous ultrasounds and did a quick once over. He said that while, yes, I had some gallstones, given that the pain was in my left side, he suspected it had much more to do with the 5cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary. Despite this being more than a MONTH after I had my ultrasound done, a MONTH after I'd spoken with Dr. Samawi's office, this was the FIRST time I'd heard about this. Dr. Samawi and his office failed to inform me of this OPERABLE-SIZED cyst on the side of my body where I was reporting pain. After a month of it continuing to grow, during which time I found it difficult to sit upright for any significant period of time without pain shooting down my left leg, I finally got the answers I deserved from an unnecessary visit with a specialist who was apparently the first person to bother actually examining my ultrasound results with any care. Soon after, the cyst painfully burst on its own, a fact confirmed by another expensive ultrasound. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I never went back to Dr. Samawi's office. I am, however, still paying off the medical bills related to their malfeasance. Congrats to all the people who get good care from Dr. Samawi. I only hope this negligence never befalls you. read more

They gave me a big bruise when they withdraw blood. Also they wanted to charge my insurance for two visits when I only went one time. Front desk receptionist very un professional, I could hear full conversation with patients over the phone. I found a new doctor. read more

Dr. Samawi doesn't disclose the fees involved per visit... Over $300 for new patients and $100 per visit after that! Shame on you Dr. If the cost per visit doesn't bother you, he is a pretty good doctor. read more

THE WORST STAFF. Dr. Samawi is an amazing doctor hands down, but his staff are a different story. They are very disorganized, have no courtesy, and forgetful. Since May 1st, I called his staff to check on my referrals because I switched medical groups on Roger's request, and for 3 phones calls (1-2 weeks apart) they would say "We haven't submitted the referral yet." On the 3rd call I finally made them submit the referral while I was on the phone. Two and a half weeks go by and I call them up again wondering why I haven't heard back about my referral. I had to let the phone ring literally 20 times before someone picked up without even saying "Sorry for the long wait we are swamped at the moment"... I let that slide and ask about my referral. They transferred me and I talked to the referrals girl about my referral and she said they submitted it to my OLD medical group. EVERY call that I talked to them I made sure they new I switched medical groups, but her excuse was that she did not know I changed medical groups. Apparently they do not communicate! It has been a month and a half now since I have been trying to get my referral through. This is just not right! If it was an emergency and I had to go see a specialist that was a life or death matter I would feel unsafe if this is how they handle things! If it was not for Dr. Samawi being a rockstar I would of given a 1-star rating and left a long time ago. I am really thinking of changing doctors though, because of the staff. If they cannot handle simple requests like these... I'm afraid to put my life in Samawi's hands if he has these people as his back-ups. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Roger Samawi for over 10 years. At first I was skeptical due to my relationship with Dr.Karen Davis . I want everone to know that from the 1st encounter he was totally amazing. He calmed my fears and proved to me he was very professional. I am a member of Organized Labor; UA Local 250 and I want everyone who is a member of a Labor Union to know you will be in good hands with Dr. Samawi and our insurance is acceptable. From his very professional staff,the time it takes to see him,obtain rsults and overall care he is a great ASSET to the Long Beach community. I forgot the nurse's name who takes your vitals, but she is really sweet and always makes the visit pleasant. Dr. Samawi is the first doctor I've had in a while who actually listens to my concerns and spends more than 2 minutes with his patients. The front desk can take a while to get through to on the phone, but they have been professional in my experience. Just a note: parking here is $2 for the first hour, so plan ahead. I'm not sure if they take card or not. The office doesn't take American Express; stick with Visa or cash. read more

I was originally a Dr. Davis patient & loved her, I was scared to see DR. Samawi, as soon as I started talking to him I could tell how down to earth he was! I cannot say enough about him. He is caring, compassionate, he is non- judgmental & very professional. They most important thing is he LISTENS and takes the time to discuss & explain everything! I will preface this by saying that yes, the phone exchange can be a frustrating thing, but at least there is some type of answering service when the front desk is not available. They do have to eat lunch after all, and legally, they need a break! Having said that, i have never had an issue with Dr. Samawi, or any of his amazing staff team members. I always feel like Dr. Samawi takes his time with me, and is not in a rush to just get me in and out of my appointment time. I have been to 3 visits, and this treatment has been consistent. As a matter of fact, he is the quintessential balance of science meets homeopathy. He is not going to prescribe it, if he doesn't think you need it, and will give a chance for other options, if that is what needs to happen first. If you are lucky enough to be able to be a part of his practice and experience the awesome treatment he and his staff provide, then consider yourself extremely blessed! read more

It is unfortunate that staff members from other doctors in your office suite are mistaken for representing your practice, but I am relieved to learn that your staff is focused on customer satisfaction. I will keep this in mind when speaking with the office in the future. I'm glad I came to Dr. Samawi. I showed up on time and was pretty much seen right away. I was suffering from an ear ache. He told me that it was due to fluid built-up caused by allergies. He gave me a free nasel spray and told me the cheapeast places to get my medicine. He also told me not to hesitate to call him if my symptons got worse. I got better in just a couple of days. The doctor is okay i guess, he's not all that like everyone says. what i really don't like are the services i get from the receptionist, she is awfully rude, always yelling when she answers the phone and always just putting them on hold. I've been there a few times and all i over hear when I'm in the waiting room is about her personal life and her weekend outings, i personally prefer to not hear about other peoples personal issues while i'm trying to get my personal health issues fixed. when i had my visit with Dr. Samawi he seemed like he was in a rush to get out of the room and then i forgot to tell him something and asked him on his way out of the room he just rolled his eyes and said to come back for another appointment because he didn't have time anymore. i personally don't like the service i got. Oh please! You cannot be talking about the same Dr. Samawi I went to. Talk about incompetent. Jeez, where should I start???? Oh, okay with his BAD ATTITUDE. The first time I met him he came in to exam room frowning and seemed distracted and bothered. He wouldn't deal with all of my issues because according to him "Medi-Cal" wouldn't approve the procedures that I needed. (Really?) okay, so let's just go with the bad knees. I saw him in June and could barely walk. The pain was excruciating. He seemed empathic to my needs and loaded me up with tons of narcotics to kill the pain and then he sent me to get x-rays. I was told that they would call me once they received the results. Weeks went by and nothing. I finally called in and the front desk person (probably an m.a.) tells me that the results came back and that there was nothing wrong with the x-rays and that there was no need to schedule a follow up appt. (What?) She would NOT give me an appt. In October when I could no longer take the pain, I made another appt. Dr. Samawi once again had an attitude and asked why it took so long for me to come back for a follow-up? What? I tried to come back for a follow-up but your front desk person wouldn't allow that. He basically called me a liar and said that his "girl" would never do that. Oh come on, why the hell would I lie about that? Then he proceeded to tell me that the x-rays showed that I had very advance arthritis in both knees with bone spurs which would explain the pain, and that it was so bad that I was going to need arthroscopy surgery to shave the spurs flat on the bone. Okay, that doesn't sound to me like "nothing" according to the idiot that gave me the info in the first place. I ended up changing to a new doctor. I requested my medical records and x-rays from Dr. Samawi office over 6 weeks ago and "Markie" the front desk clerk keeps telling me that she hasn't received a medical release yet. I've faxed it once myself and the new dr office has sent it twice. Meanwhile, I am walking around in pain all day, everyday, because they want to play games. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone, but maybe my worst enemies. He's the worst doctor and his staff is even worse. Shame on you Dr. Samawi for your lousy service and incompetence!!!!!!! read more
