I am headed for my 3rd knee scope, 2 on the left were completed and now a a scope on the right. my first 2 knee surgeries were because of my 80lb dog. Dr Chams perform both of those surgeries perfectly, I felt great afterward. My right knee is being scoped Friday due to a fall existing the Metra Train. I had a 360 tear of my labrum in my right shoulder. Dr. Chams repaired it in October 2013 and I was cleared today(June 10, 2013). At this point I can pretty much do anything I want. Dr. Chams advised me to continue with home exercises to strengthen my shoulder muscles to prevent any future injury. I feel that his protocol put me on the right track back to recovery. Prior to surgery I was unable to throw a ball or sleep on my shoulder without discomfort. Now I can do both without any discomfort. The rehab process is long, but it was definitely worth it. If you need shoulder surgery I would highly recommend Dr. Chams. He was recommended by my co-workers and they also have had full recoveries. As far as bedside manners, he is easy to talk to and is very clear with his explanations. read more

I'm giving him 3 stars for the many times I've had to wait to see him . One time it was over and hour wait. I just don't understand how there is always a long long wait. Than when you get in to see him he rushes. Also i know he does tons of surgeries but I wish he would look at the chart before he comes in . Since he doesn't remember what he has done and had to ask his PA. So if you don't mind waiting and being rushed when you get in to see him he is your doctor to go to. read more

I finally had enough and decided to find a new doctor. I also have very little improvement since my surgery and his explanations and ideas of what's going on seem to change like the wind. Dr. Chams did a scope of my knee, cleaning up a bad miniscus tear and cleaning out the arthritis. The surgery was quick and expert, and my recovery has been a breeze--haven't had to use anything stronger than ibuprofen, and that more for the swelling than pain. I was taking my dog on short walks in three days and spent three days of heavy walking in Ireland at the five-week mark (with the occasional ibuprofen). He listens when you ask questions and gives solid, understandable answers. Might seem a little brusque, and he's very busy, but I got the sense he really cares, as does the rest of his team. Wish I could give zero stars. He spent maybe 2 minutes in the room with me telling me I needed surgery. His PA did all the "work" and when the PA told him my story about how I got injured, it was way off from what I told him. It was like the telephone game. I've never felt less compassion in my life. It was like being on an assembly line. I couldn't even tell you what he looked like it was so fast. He didn't discuss options either and barely even made eye contact. Another noteworthy thing I think you should know. I was prescribed a very low grade pain med that created anxiety for me. When the PA gave me the script, I asked what type of pain med is this...His response..."It's a pain med" and he left the room. I let the NP know about my reaction to the med (who by the way was a very nice person and caring) and she gave me a replacement. I have 2 injuries and am in a lot of pain, so they gave me something a bit stronger. Well, it upset my stomach. So, long story short....Since they would not give me a script for a different medication, I thought for them to prescribe and anti-nausea medication, so I could tolerate this new med. I needed a refill on the med as well, as the weekend was coming up and I would have run out. I took the med as prescribed 1-2 every 4-6 hours. That is what it said on the bottle, per Dr Chams. So, I took 2 every 4 hours. I was honest and told them how many I had left and Dr Chams refused to refill the pain med, keeping in mind he would be doing my surgery in about 3 weeks. I was accused of taking too much and that "normal" people take one a night. Well if "normal" people take one a night, then put that one as the directions the bottle!!!!!! Don't make me feel bad for trying to treat my pain, as directed!!!! I found a new surgeon. read more

I saw Dr Chams after receiving sub par treatment from 2 other orthopedic surgeons for a shoulder injury. Dr. Chams was knowledgeable, caring, and did not rush into surgery. He referenced many studies to back up his decision. He referred me to a high quality physical therapy clinic. However, therapy was not enough. Dr. Chams then performed a manipulation procedure that along with therapy resulted in a full recovery with normal range of motion, strength, and function. I cannot recommend Dr. Chams enough.
