A beautiful memorial on a nice maintained green belt right on the Rogue river at exit 48 off of the I-5 in southern central Oregon, by the town of Rogue River, adjacent to the Rogue River Visitors Center on the 99 (Rogue River Hwy) road frontage. There are few picnic tables and a few grills under lots of nice shade trees, against a backdrop of the tree lined water front of the river. Plenty of parking, and handicap accessible, this small park is very peaceful and serene. I walked it several times over our most recent visit. There is also access to the water at several points and a water craft ramp under the bridge that passes over. This memorial park is quite busy with people coming and going throughout the day. This is a great memorial that recognizes all veterans past to present day of the area, and should be treated with a certain reverence while there, as a great tribute to those who sacrificed everything... a 5 star memorial 00268

We wanted to secure our tickets for the cave tour before the long drive up the mountain. The drive takes about 45 minutes, and then there is a 10-15 minute walk to the cave visitor center from the parking lot. Tickets were $10 each, with an option to donate $ to a bat conservation fund. We arrived at the visitor center about 15 minutes before our 11:30 am tour, so that gave us time to check out the exhibits in the visitor center. I especially liked the "who's bones are these" exhibit. The tour started promptly at 11:30. We were very fortunate to have Kelly Cave (yes, that's her real name) as our tour guide. It was a small group, just us and one other couple. Kelly was a great guide, pointing out all the wonderful formations in the cave, and making sure we stayed safe through the tight spaces. The tour took about an hour and a half, and we enjoyed every moment. After the tour, we hiked the 3/4 mile nature trail outside of the cave, which was very nice. Note: Make sure you dress warmly for the cave tour, the temperature inside the cave is about 44 degrees. No purses, backpacks, bags, etc. allowed.

They should have advised us that my husband who is 6'2 a little over 200 lbs was going to find it very difficult to get through the passages and they said the second part of the cave was very e en worse. Since nothing was said we started on the tour it was so narrow and low he couldn't even get to the first section and we had to turn and get out. When we asked if we could get refunded they said there were no refunds which again there was no sign stating that nor did the women say anything about no refunds when we purchased the tickets. So if planning on going there and your a bigger size person you might what to reconsider.

What a beautiful national park!…read more Came here on a day where the weather changed between partly cloudy/sunny and snowy/rainy. The snowy surroundings created a nice contrast against the very deep blue color of the lake. In the early morning, it was very peaceful. There were not many people around, likely because of weather. The Steel Visitor Center's film was excellent to get a sense of the geology and history of the park. The lodge also offered an excellent meal with a partial view of the lake. Because of the snow, we were not able to go on the Rim Drive or hike the trails. I would imagine all the views would have been beautiful. The Cleetwood Cove trail down to the lake is closed for 3 summers, through 2028. If weather is of any question, the NPS website has up-to-date information about the weather, including webcams of several spots in the park.

Surprisingly not busy for memorial day weekend although we started early on a sunday morning and a lot of the park was still closed for the season, there was snow! My 3 year old was very pleased. We purchased the annual national park pass at the front gate, sad to hear that the national park staff keeps being reduced and scary to know that there's only *one* emergency ranger on staff currently so please follow the rules folks! Lot's of cute shops for goodies and campgrounds along the way. We stayed an hour away but the drive felt fast and scenic. A nice breath of fresh air. The large parking lot seemed to fill up fast to see the lake, but super close so very accessible. A few hikes were open but honestly just sitting and admiring the lake does the trick. Would love to come back and visit when more of the park is open!

They gave us all kinds of information about Crater Lake. Unfortunately, the day we were there was a bad one. Not all of the roads were open. We would have been unable to view Crater Lake. There is plenty of other information provided about the surrounding area. They have brochures covering everything from wineries to covered bridges to a drive thru safari. Tons of activities and places to visit if you have the time. So stop on in to learn more about the area.

Couldn't find anyone there, nobody picked up the phone either. We saw three other cars, including two families with children, pull up and leave disappointed, just in the 20 minutes we spent there. If your visitor center isn't even open on a Sunday afternoon, the biggest part of the week for tourism and recreation, then why have one at all? Tourists don't generally show up in town on Monday mornings, on a work day. They also organized a very poorly put-together geocaching tour, which I discovered was organized without official approval from geocaching.com. I finally got a hold of them a few days later, to try to get them to mail me the documents I needed from them. First of all, they were very nice, I'll give them that. They could probably show you a whole range of colorful brochures and perhaps even tell you about the attractions. That said, I'm not sure these women even live in the same century as we do. I simply could not explain to either of the two women there, no matter how simply I said it, that you can email documents to people. I highly doubt either had ever in fact seen email. When I said, in these exact words "Could you perhaps attach the documents to an email?" They said "Whoa, hold on, you're going to have to repeat that, I have no idea what you're talking about". Several more minutes of explaining the concept didn't help either. So they took down my name and address for a third person to look into it. I am not exaggerating when I tell you I had to spell my first name FOUR times. That's right: "Claire, C L A I R E, the common girl's name, Claire" "Sorry, what? Can you spell that again? "Claire, C L A I R E" "C L A R I...? Sorry, what is it?" "C L A I R E" "Okay, Clarie?" "No, the girl's name Claire, spelled the way you usually spell it, C L A I R E. Like Claire Huxtable." "Okay!" I then spelled out my email address, which has one word plus the name Claire. The next day they called me back: "Hi Clarie? The email didn't go through!" They had STILL MISPELLED CLAIRE. I facepalmed so hard. How is that even possible? *cry* I didn't bother a fifth time, so I gave them my husband's email address. His name is Rob. I'm amazed that email actually arrived. I feel bad complaining, because the ladies were nice (well the first two, the third who called me back wasn't terribly friendly), and they're volunteers I'm guessing, but honestly... most incompetent government agency in Oregon. And that says a lot. It's awesome that people are willing to volunteer, but a city the size of Roseburg simply needs to hire at least one professional to manage the visitor center and be present on site.

These trees are absolutely massive, walking among them feels like stepping into another world. The light, the air, the silence... everything feels calm, ancient, and sacred. The trails are super well maintained, the weather was perfect, and there was plenty of parking even though it was busy. The roads and trails are a bit narrow, but honestly, that just adds to the charm. The river that runs through the park is crystal-clear and peaceful a perfect little spot to stop and take it all in. Standing next to those giant redwoods makes you realize how tiny you are in the best possible way. It's humbling and magical at the same time If you're driving from Eureka toward Crescent City, the entire drive is breathtaking, every curve along the coast looks like a postcard. You'll even pass through Elk Valley, and oh my god, there are actual elks just hanging out by the side of the road! They're so beautiful and so used to seeing people; it felt like nature welcoming you in. If you love hiking, nature, or just want to feel grounded and amazed, this place is a must. California, you really outdid yourself with this one.
