This wee café came to my attention through twitter (they followed me, I decided I needed to visit =…read moreso simple!). Even though I'm a south sider, I don't really visit this area very often so I don't know what it replaced but it's a lovely, cosy space - couches, tables, lots of space and very bright inside. I was warmly welcomed and shown the menu and told what was available today. I was there in the afternoon which meant they'd sold out of quite a bit of stuff - but that shows they're popular and making stuff fresh, which is great! I ended up ordering the full breakfast (£4.95) and asked for the black pudding and beans to be left off. It didn't take long (even though it was freshly cooked) and was a generous plate of food. I loved the roasted tomatoes, bacon and sausage which were all lovely. I don't really like scrambled egg but overall it was a tasty breakfast which was just the afternoon perk I needed. I stayed for a while doing some work and they kindly offered me their wifi code which was nice. The owners are really lovely folk who really want to make their customers comfortable and well looked after which I appreciated. As the name says, there is a huge range of cakes too but I didn't try any on this visit. I'll be back soon though as I want to try their soup!

The day's soups were spinach and lentil, and chorizo and tomato which was more of a stew. The spinach and lentil was delicious, rib sticking thick and tasty, tasty. My chicken salad sandwich on thick wholemeal contained proper roast chicken. The accompanying side salad had a balsamic dressing and included ribbons of carrot along with the usual ingredients. I usually view coleslaw in cafes with suspicion as they are often sour and vinegary and come straight out of a catering pack. This coleslaw was made on the premises tasting of fresh veg and creamy mayonnaise. Regulars popped in and out, on first name terms with the soup man and cake lady confirming this wee cafe's role in the community. Oh and the coffee was great as well.

I know it's (very) early doors for this review (they opened today!) but when you have been waiting…read moreso so patiently as I have for this place to open then I just couldn't wait to spread the word! Situated on the left hand side of the ground floor atrium (past the escalators) of the spanking new South Glasgow University Hospital (still getting used to that new name!) Souped Up & Juiced is the latest cafe to open up here and I can almost hear the cries of 'YAS!' ring throughout the whole of the SGUH grounds by fellow lovers of coffee, sweet treats and sandwiches. With only the Aroma Cafe as competition (so far) SU&J really are MILES ahead of the game ~ you only have to look at the place to see how much better they are. Run by the same folk that gave us the Deco cafes, SU&J is their newest (and may I say, funkiest) venture. I loved Deco so it was really no surprise I was going to love this place too. These gals and guys know their shiz. I visited about 10:50am & there was a substantial queue already but unlike in Aroma where you seem to wait an age before you're even acknowledged here it was so quick yet with just the right amount of time to let you peruse the menus. I was impressed. All staff were friendly and helpful (not in a forced way either) and the queue moved very swiftly indeed. Great start, especially considering this was their 1st day of opening. What do they serve? Well, there's sandwiches/wraps/paninis, savoury snacks, bottled/canned drinks (San Pellegrino, yas!), delicious sounding soups (Chickpea & Spinach Dahl, NYC Chicken Noodle & Mexican Chilli Chicken to name a few), fresh pressed juices & smoothies (to which you can add 'Booster Shots' of wheatgrass & other such healthlicious goodies), Froyo, Breakfast pots (Porridge, Museli & Granola), coffees (hot & iced) and yummy yummy sweet delights such as their epic Empire Biscuits, pastries and muffins too. I think that's everything?! I had a soya (yes, they serve soya milk ~ bonus) flat white and Empire Biscuit and the coffee was REALLY good; very well made, nice & strong yet also nice creamy foamed soya milk. Service was impeccable and I really like their vast menu/choice and the look of the place. Only downside is they don't have their own seating but I'm guessing that's not their fault...however there are seats & tables not far away also on the ground floor of the atrium and also more upstairs too. Price wise Smoothis start from £3.15, fresh juices from £2.95 and their coffees average at about £1.90 for a medium size. Not bad. They also have plenty of Meal Deals & offers on which saves a bit of your hard earned dollah. Whether you're visiting, a patient or staff here this place is a wee haven offering up yummy eats & tasty drinks to heal you (maybe). Souped Up & Juiced ~ I shall visit you again, soon! You are just souper! *groan* (sorry!)

So that's what I did (it was also bloody freezing!). I like the look of this cafe and that it's somewhere I hadn't heard of before I saw it appear in the hospital. It's in the main building, near the patient check-in machines and has an appealing frontage. At 9am it was pretty quiet and I went over to check out the soup options. I have to say from the outset the staff member working was not especially friendly, kind of gesturing towards the boards of soup at the back and looking a bit miffed that I asked about them at all. Maybe she's not a morning person but perhaps she could have been a smidgeon chirpier. They also have 8 different soups on the go which - for a new customer - is pretty surprising as most places will offer 2 maximum. Anyway. I asked for a medium pea and ham to which she told me it hadn't been warmed to the correct temperature yet (she was checking the vats with a thermometer) and that she would need to microwave it for me. Ok, sure. For a medium soup and some bread it came to £2.95 and was packaged in a takeaway cup. The soup was awesome - one of the best pea and ham soups I can remember ever having (except for my Mum's soup, of course). So that's why this review still hits the 3-star mark even though the customer service left much to be desired. Would I go back here? Probably yes, and hopefully I can give them an upgrade next time.

Furthermore, numerous people make specific trips to Pollok House just for this restaurant. Obviously, this indicates that it serves decent food. Indeed, it does. In fact, I'd go a bit further to say it serves up lovely food. The menu has a good selection: there's the usual soup, sandwich type deals; baked potatoes with an array of fillings and similar standard cafe food as well as lovely lasagne's and the like. Moreover, they even have daily specials which are actually specials. Meaning that these change on a daily basis and are freshly made. Yesterday these were carrot and rosemary soup (delicious) and a bacon and rosemary tart served with new baby potatoes and a fresh side salad (which looked AMAZING). They also offer the usual range of coffees, hot chocolates and soft drinks. These can all be enjoyed with a delicious slice of one of their many deserts. This is perfected by the fact that you can pop in here to have just a cake and a coffee which very few places still accommodate for. The staff are lovely, pleasant and extremely efficient and their service is quick. Even at their busiest times, they keep their cool are never get nippy or board-line rude which I've witnessed in other places over the years. Definitely worth a visit.

I came here for brunch, and the menu was great - somewhere between traditional scottish cuisine, gourmet greasy spoon and gastropub. The food was top notch, tho mine was a little cold, which for mashed potato isn't that appetising, and the orange juice kind of manky... Still, the taste, presentation and serice time was all above par! The surroundings were quite attention grabbing - plenty of conversation starter nick nacks are on display around the walls, as they also sell antique and retro goods. My friend and I had been craving bacon rolls all morning since we hadn't made it to Jordanhill's university cafe on time. Woe was us. Then we discovered Cafe Circa which was miraculously still serving bacon rolls in the afternoon. Yippee!! The rolls were those crispy ones which I adore. We finished it off with a big chunk of chocolate cake which was perfectly proportioned. They now have an offer called a "friendship slice" where if you and a friend both order the same cake it costs only a little extra for the additional slice rather than double. The best thing about this quirky little find is the service. The guy that served us couldn't have been more helpful and was one of the smiliest waiters I have ever seen. We felt like we'd been regulars for years getting the VIP treatment. We also got a little card which offered a discount for when we next visited. Have been back several times and even though I have now left this area I would make the trip just for one of those amazing bacon rolls and lovely smiles.
